So, I am coming up. Pretty likely anyway. Though I had to change my plans cause friends weren't keen. I may or may not need transfers to and from the game. As the relatives I am staying with almost certainly won't be going to the game. I know there is free bus travel, but I have no idea where this goes through. If anyone is happy to maybe give me a lift to and/or from the stadium before and after the game let me know. I might not need the help but it would be awesome. Thanks.

About time a match thread was started, for a game this important!!

A lot of water to go under the bridge yet in regards to player availability and injuries etc but:

                      Moss
        Vicelich      Nelsen     Smith
Bertos                                  Lochhead
          Elliottt           Brown
           Wood        Fallon     Killen

Subs: The rest.

Reid and Smeltz I am not sure over availability. Smeltz is now in a similar position to Reid isn't he?

Vicelich deserves a start in front of his hometown Auckland fans I think before he (most likely) retires.

Can't effin wait!

Agree with Smeltz over Fallon. But think Ivan should get a start. Be that in midfield or defence I don't know.

it will be interesting to see how many players are named. If its only 18 then quite a few of the World CUp squad would miss out.

POssible 18:

Paston/Moss
Reid/Nelsen/Smith/Sigmund/Vicelich
Bertos/Lochhead/Elliottt/Brown/Mcglinchey/Brockie
Smeltz/Fallon/Killen/Wood/Barbarouses

That means 6 of the WC squad would not be there:
Boyens, Bannatyne, Barron, Clapham, Mulligan, Christie

Might name 20 but would seem silly to name more than that.

I would say that this squad is very likely to be the squad used in the friendlies. The only question marks being over Smeltz and Reid.

Oh yeah, should have added that. North Shore, Seaview Road or similar I think. Don't know the number.

Not too far from the ground I guess, bound to be able to catch a bus. Alternatively I'm sure you'll be along the way for someone on here who is going.

Are you going to the game alone? Make sure to go to the Ale House (or whatever it is called now) for the pre game!

                         Moss

        Reid          Nelsen       Smith

                      Vicelich

        Brown               Elliottt

Barbarouses                           Lochhead

             Wood            Smeltz

Bench:  Fallon, Killen, Bertos, Paston, Christie, Boyens, Sigmund, Clapham.

That's a squad of 19, if it turns out to only be a squad of 18 being brought back then ditch Boyens as Siggy is a back and Vicelich can play in the backs as well.

For me Moss is the goalkeeper for the future so I'd play him.  I like the idea of Vicelich starting in front of his hometown and in 2/3 World Cup games he performed admirably in DM so leave him there.  Nelsen, Smith, and Reid is easily our best back three so keep that though someone claiming to be a relative of Smith claimed Smith will pull out, feigning injury, so if there's any truth to that then the Seamonster comes straight in.  Bertos has been horrendous of late and Barbarouses has been quality, bring in Kosta!  Lochhead gets the left-side due to a lack of competition and Daniel needing another 2 years to elapse before he pulls on the shirt.  Smeltz is our best striker at the moment so let him start, while Wood is a great up and coming prospect who needs a start and, personally, I'd love to see him get his first goal for NZ and starting him gives him a good chance.  Elliottt played exceptionally despite his age so keep him in the middle and I can't think of any competition Brown has bar Christie and I'd put Brown in ahead of him.

Paston substitute keeper for obvious reasons.  Killen and Fallon the most logical subs for the forwards - maybe even leave one of them behind and bring in Bright?  Bertos to keep Kosta on his toes and due to fact Bertos is a good player (just not applying himself at the moment).  Siggy and Boyens defensive cover though, as said, cut Boyens if only 18 selected and Vicelich can cover defense with Christie coming in for him.  And keep Clapham - want to see him debut off the bench.

Honduras after the WC got other 5 players playing overseas:
Izaguirre - Celtic Glasgow
Nunez - Leeds United
Melvis Valladares - Guerreros (Mexico)
Jerry Palacios - Hangzhou Greentown
Walter Martinez - Bejing Gouan

George Welcome trialled with Rangers Glasgow.

And David Suazo came back to my team,Inter, after the bad loan to Genoa.
He was a good player but now is horrendous.Stormpark942010-09-02 23:16:19

I agree with everything here, except the game is a month away so players may yet find/lose form in that time. But I like the logic in your selections.

With this being the beginning of building towards 2014 I'd like to see a more balanced side, preferably 442 or 433.

                12 Moss

4 Reid   6 Nelsen    13 Smith     3 Lochhead

            5 Vicelich  7 Elliottt
11 Bertos                       17 Barbarouses

             10 Killen  9 Smeltz

1 Paston, 2 Sigmund, 8 Brown, 16 Christie, 15 McGlinchey, 18 Henderson, 19 Brockie, 20 Wood, 14 Fallon
Probably time to start trying some right back candidates out; Christie, Reid, Smith, Lochhead....
You know we belong together...

probably sitting on the couch eating corn chips while playing FIFA 10.

Actually, we don't know what he is doing but I would imagine that if he is wanting to play international football he is training.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

It will be interesting to see how Rickie selects for these games. Will he start with the team that did the business at the WC(baring defection) or will he have an eye to the future and see that Vicilich and Elliott will not be around for much longer and start players who will be in the picture for the next Wc qualifiers.

great to see Lord Nelsen has just confirmed he will be here. He has so much mana and media savvy. His presence alone will signal to the public that these games are the real deal. I think that Reid has said he wants to come.....quiet on the Tommy Smith front.
We could end up with our very best 11 on the park.

The games can be seen as a few things, as a celebration for our World Cup acheivements, a farewell for our older players nearing retirement, or a precursor for 2014 qualifying, and the selections may reflect any of those scenarios. Above all, however, I want to see the team win both games and the best team selected. Selections should reflect form, and with that in mind it is hard to see how Elliotttt would be in contention while he is without a club. I'm a big Elliotttt fan and I'd love to see him play, but with the obvious benefits two wins would bring to the game in New Zealand, selections should be made on form, not sentiment.

He's playing wide on the right. And Id say his form is ok, but not much more.

Has Elliott played a game since the world cup!? Because I'm sure him and Brown will start. Wee Mac is doing alright on Fantasy.. but he's never been a standout in any of the games I've seen. The only other alternative would be Christie. Vicelich shouldn't be selected, and of course Barron has retired. Is Clapham a wide midfielder?

Moss
Reid-Nelsen-Smith
Bertos-Elliott-Brown-Lochhead
Smeltz
Wood-Killen

Kosta
Knowles
Brockie all coming on.

This game is up against Ranfurly sheild challenge between Southland and Canterbury. Might be a hard choice for viewers.

Both games on SS2. No build up, but could be post match coverage. George Costanza2010-09-30 16:35:53
