Nothing good. Spent some time with Western Suburbs in the Central League, also in Norwegian second division, and is currently with Waitakere United in the ASB Premiership.

Must admit, Samurai Blue is quite a cool name for a footie team.
Which brings us to colours. They have a blue home kit, we sometimes play in blue away.

Are we going to switch to black or stick with white.

The black is an alternate kit (it's been black for a couple of years now) so we would generally only wear it when playing a white team.

Christe is injured ffs. So the needless trolling is pointless. He will not be in the squad of 22. 30 players have been selected with another five U-20 players joining them as a squad for the rest of the year. Hence Christie, Paston and Bertos making the list.

Name another defensive midfielder we could have picked ahead of Christie though? There's no one. But he won't make the 22 anyway.

Don't forget the Japan match is for the Unofficial World Cup as well.

@ edward I. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of big names are missing from the Japanese squad. They sent an U-21 squad to the Asian Games (U-23) and won, and their Asian Cup winning squad was based on youth as well (I think less than half of the squad were at South Africa 2010). China did something similar, as both teams are developing squads for the 2012 Olympics, as well as WCQ later this year.

At the Asian Cup, I was impressed by China, despite them not getting great results. You could see the potential there, and I think they're on the rise again. Japan, obviously, are very good, and play a nice passing game.

Chill out no need to lose your temper. Im sure when Christie is fit he will be back in the mix again and I would pick a number of players ahead of him.

I think him being injured is a good opportunity for someone else to put their hand up. I would have Tim Brown Simon Elliott and Ivan Vicelich ahead of him as defensive Midfield, think 3 people who can play there is enough. Dont think we have lost much with him injured.

After someone posted that I actually heard an interview and I doubt he ever said that. When asked the question he said Marco had to be picked first. Then he was interested but had to leave his options open. He was hopeful and pretty sure that Ricki wouldn't be spiteful. He sounded fairly enthusiastic about it in terms of tone.

I believe it was a direct quote from an article somewhere, so doubt he made it up.

But what would Marco have to loose from playing? (as I understand he could change allegiance even if he played both of these games)

Maybe they feel it is better for him to stay with the Galaxy than disrupt that at this stage?

Yeh was looking for his name with our aging midfield...

maybe galaxy wouldn't release him?

Clubs dont have a say though if its on an official window, which I can only assume it is.

Where is that article? All I saw here was a link to the 442 forums which had an unsubstantiated quote. Not saying he never said it, but hearing an interview later I find it pretty hard to believe he used those words.

Yeah, I posted it on here after seeing the quote on 442 forums, asking if anyone else had heard the supposed interview as I found it hard to believe. No one replied saying that they had, hence I have my doubts on the validity of the quote.

New Zealand Football: Rojas excited about All Whites futures

March 9, 2011

AUCKLAND Teenager Marco Rojas is relishing the chance to step on to the international stage and has no regrets about picking New Zealand over his Chilean heritage.

Rojas, 19, enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Wellington Phoenix making 16 appearances and scoring two goals and while he has been tight-lipped about his club future his international future is now clear after being named in a 30 man All Whites squad by coach Ricki Herbert.

It was a very tough decision given my background with two nationalities, admitted Rojas, but growing up in New Zealand and playing all my football here it felt more comfortable playing for New Zealand.

Its always an honour to play for your country, and there are a lot of very good players in the squad. Itll be great to meet them all, train alongside them and start my international career.

The former Waikato FC, Ngaruawahia United and Hamilton Wanderers flyer won a trial at the Wellington A-League club through a scholarship from supporters group Yellow Fever in 2009 and can now look forward to a new challenge.

Ive enjoyed every step of the journey over the last few years and I think Ive come a long way in that time. Im very happy with where things are at and hopefully things continue to progress and I can play at higher levels.

Rojas could be involved for two New Zealand teams this year as, like fellow new comer Luke Rowe from Birmingham City, he is still eligible for this years FIFA U-20 World Cup and is firmly part of New Zealand U-20 coach Chris Milicichs plans with qualifiers scheduled for April and the 24-nation finals in Colombia in July and August.

ï¿½Hopefully I can be involved in the qualifiers and help the team qualify for Colombia, said Rojas.

My dream is to play at a World Cup and hopefully we can qualify and can get that chance at an age group level.

Personal informations about michael james fitzgerald who is playing in japan with zweigen kanazawa on loan from albirex niigata. First game of this season this week end

Michael James Fitzgerald ("Michael James") is a young New Zealander who has lived in Japan for quite a while. I dont know the exact details of how he arrived here but I do know that he was here from an early age (ie, a minor). But the most important point is that he does not belong to Zweigen Kanazawa. He is an Albirex Niigata player who has been loaned to Zweigen to give him experience. So although he might be getting some sort of compensation direct from Zweigen, I am fairly sure that he is being paid by Albirex.

Michael James is half New Zealander, half Japanese. He attended school in Japan. He keeps connections to his New Zealand nationality as he would be MUCH more likely to be called to that national team than Japan's, but would consider taking Japanese nationality at any time as opposed to having a "child of Japanese national" visa that allows him more or less a normal life in Japan.

So, you see that there is always a connection there. Foreigners can't get in without one.

James's Zweigen Kanazawa also is a nearly or fully professional team. Takafumi Akahoshi, who played well for Mito in 2008 before going back to Urawa for 2009, had a chance to come back to Mito after being released. He went to Kanazawa instead... because the money was better.

The fact that Marco is one of my favourite players, I think you are underestimating the ability of the Japanese and Chinese defenders.

After the incredible influx of A-League defenders to Korea/China/Japan I wouldn't be too quick to defend their defenders.

Id go:

                        Moss
Sigmund Nelsen Smith Lochhead
                  Brown Elliot
                    McGlinchey
Barbarouses   Smeltz          Killen

Depends on availability I guess.

But this would fit the likes of Brockie, Rojas, Wood etc all into it.
But pretty happy with the youth we have! We could effectively see this:

                                  Gleeson
                      Reid        Smith        Rowe
McGlinchey   Henderson    Peverley           Rojas
               Brockie       Wood      Barbarouses

All guys young as. Just that CM spot that really needs strengthening in my eyes. Hopefully guys like Henderson, Peverley, and keat can all grow into these spots

Gleeson won't start. Moss rarely starts as it is and is reasonably young still.
Rowe is a leftback! you can't start him in a back three, especially with Rojas in front of him.

I would have put this in the match thread but its locked for now. I emailed sky to ask if they were going to screen these matches. Their reply was to keep checking the EPG closer to the date as they may get late rights to screen it.   Lets hope they do, I was looking forward to going down to 4K on my bday to watch the game against China.

There is a problem getting the rights??
Is another channel going for the rights, or don't Sky want to pay what they're asking for the rights?
Or have Sky just not got their sh*t together to sort the rights out already??
