Bott & Klimkova had a falling out? Bott's non selection sounds very vague/odd.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/133315718/football-ferns-recall-meikayla-moore-after-world-cup-selection-heartbreak

Moore will rejoin a new-look Football Ferns team featuring three newcomers in Wellington Phoenix standout Macey Fraser, Canberra United teenager Ruby Nathan and England-born Sunderland midfielder Katie Kitching.

Kitching has been on Klimková’s radar for a number of years and is the latest dual nationality to pledge her international future to New Zealand.

The 25-year-old has been in eye-catching form for the second-place Women’s Championship club Sunderland, registering two goals and two assists.

Mackenzie Barry, Daisy Cleverley, Hannah Blake and Ava Collins were the other players reinstated alongside Moore.

Women's Super League players CJ Bott and Ria Percival were the biggest omissions, with vague reasons cited for Bott’s surprise axing.

Squad
Goalkeepers: Brianna Edwards, Victoria Esson, Anna Leat

Defenders: Mackenzie Barry, Katie Bowen, Michaela Foster, Ally Green, Meikayla Moore, Grace Neville, Ali Riley, Rebekah Stott, Kate Taylor

Midfielders: Daisy Cleverley, Macey Fraser, Betsy Hassett, Ruby Nathan, Malia Steinmetz

Forwards: Hannah Blake, Ava Collins, Jacqui Hand, Grace Jale, Katie Kitching, Indiah-Paige Riley, Paige Satchell

Not too bothered about senior players missing.

With or without them we will lose these two games. Rather see up and comers like Barry, Foster, Fraser, Blake, Nathan embedded into the setup and given action gametime. Eventually the older guard moves on and it's those in the younger age group that will need to step up for 2027 WWC.

Looking at the major omissions, apart from injuries you have: CJ Bott (32 in 2027), Longo (36 in 2027), Wilko (35 in 2027), Nayler (35 in 2027), Ria (37 in 2027). If we're still relying on them in 2027 (bar CJ), we're in trouble.

Happy for Ali Riley to stick around while up to it because of leadership qualities.

That's pretty tough on Bott. She's been played all over the park by Klimkova. At times I think she is probably guilty of trying to do too much, dribbling in field and ending up turning over the ball in dangerous positions. But in the big picture probably not a bad thing she skips a tour (especially with this teams record of injuries while in camp) she can focus on managing her workload at WSL level, and keep her starting spot at Leicester.

Yes we are unlikely to win these games. Columbia looked like a very good team at the WWC. They will be even stronger at home. But hope to see Jale and Hand up top together with Wilkinson absent.
Wilkinson is an odd one. Even at Mel City with all that talent around her she has been pretty ineffective last few games. I guess she pops up for the odd goal like a good centre forward. Off the field it appears she is quite inspiring to those around her. But hope we see enough this tour from others that Wilkinson gets relegated to a bench role in future, where I think she might have more impact on games. Real shame Clegg is injured.

Macey Fraser every day of the week...start her and watch this team come alive! But cant do it all on her own!

Meikayla Moore - hows she back in there after her complete dummy spit/selfish behaviour?? Her ship sailed a long time ago.

No Bott interesting - no doubt somethings happened if Klimkova aint talking. Do we have another Erceg situation developing?

Didnt have much left in the tank for this team, i was going to chuck it in tbh. Klimkova is a joke, the culture is a joke. the performances are dire. Macey Fraser give us hope....some light please!!!!

Seems like Moore has been starting and playing well in her team- playing 90minutes each week, so played her way back.
CJ Bott is one of our best players so hopefully that is not a sign of things to come. Same with Percival- she might be balancing playing for club vs getting beat again for the Ferns when others could gain some decent experience.
Seems it’s a squad selection for the future and assume that Clegg would have been selected too if fit.
Maybe a change in formation?
Would be good to have two different teams play ago and the same opponent so that we have some yard stick of how the gap is between the established and upcoming players….. I don’t think there’s much difference.

I doubt she will be great for the Ferns, as she never has been. Even yes putting the 3 oggies verus USA, in the one off freakishly bad luck department.

She's playing well (though Scotland is a fairly mediocre league ) so deserves her recall, and with Bunge & Percival out brings some welcome experience. But if they were available she wouldn't be there. Can see Bowen and/or Stott moving forward in Percival's absence.

Her touch is pretty horrendous at times and i personally think Grace Neville technically is a better footballer, but you cant buy Botts desire and effort, she should make this squad.

Piney doesn't think so. Certianly Klimkova's statements are it's more that Bott's been dropped and has some 'work ons'. Jitka's made it sound different to Percival who yes has been left to concentrate on her WSL club Spurs. All a bit odd.

Shame, as one of the women's game most exciting talents. Though will improve Ferns chances of getting a result over the 2 games.

We actually played Colombia in the U20 WWC last year. A 2-2 draw. Caicedo a double, Clegg & Lancaster the scorers for NZ. Pity is to be no Caicedo v Clegg matchup at senior level this time. Both also played in last year's U17 WWC.

Strange inclusion... replacing a centre back with a winger. Marisa van der Meer would have made a lot more sense and considering other Nix callups is really one of the more questionable omissions.

Just another thing to touch on with these Colombia games - they have qualified for the Olympics and we are very very likely to qualify.

And unless there's an upset in the AFC qualifying playoffs, Colombia will be in Pot 3 and we will be in Pot 4... meaning there is effectively a 1 in 3 chance of us being in the same group at the Olympics.

12 day tourney plus buildup. Presuming ALW will be playing through these dates, so Temple will have to do without some of his squad.

Maybe him & Klimkova can do a deal. Like Elliot & Fraser released for the pool games (which Ferns will waltz through, by double digit scorelines) then Foster & Clegg etc for the knockouts. Some deal like that.

https://www.oceaniafootball.com/draw-confirmed-for-womens-olympic-football-tournament-oceania-qualifier/

To be held in Samoa from February 7-19, 2024, the tournament will see eight teams competing across two groups, with the winning side representing the Oceania region at the Summer Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.

Group A will see Papua New Guinea compete with the Solomon Islands, Fiji and American Samoa, whilst Group B includes 2020 Summer Olympic Games representative New Zealand, Tonga, hosts Samoa and Vanuatu.

Typical OFC. There is a Fifa window  Feb 19-28. And ALW do not play the weekend of 25th. I assume Matilda's will have AFC Olympic qualifying over those dates.
Why didn't they hold the OFC tournament over those same dates. But no, Put's NZ player welfare at jeopardy, for some kind of advantage for the other OFC teams by holding the Tournament 7-19 Feb....
Tin Pot confederation.

Van Der Meer has to be better than Moore. And surely will be more use in the future. I'm surprised VDM wasn't in the original squad.

Jeepers we will be missing a lot of key players then. European clubs and other A-League teams will be under no obligation to release players then?

Scandalous sabotage from OFC, but sadly very much expected at this point.

As a women's Olympic qualifying tournament, release is mandatory from the Monday prior to it starting.

That said, not scheduling this over the window (and the weekend off many leagues have) is poor.

Player welfare is the biggest issue for me. Players will be torn between club obligations and national team opportunities.
Hopefully NZF are sensible and perhaps do the two team thing. Rather than put all the emphasis on the Nix supplying most of the players.
They could pick a good team from the Auckland based domestic players for the group stage. Then bring in some pro's for the knock outs.
That being said. Scandanavia are probably on winter break at that time of year, which would help for player availability.

Clearly they haven't studied the Ferns enough if he thinks they are world class 😂

Jackman is already making me want to go out like an honorable samurai. Can NZF really not find anyone that sounds like they want to be there?
