Well done, unlucky with the penalty. Good campaign from them.
Thought the Argie ref was attractive but not good in her adjudicating. What an obvious penalty!
Reminded me a lot of the All Whites v Germany 1999 Confederations Cup, Mexico which similarly finished 2-0. NZ were denied a clear penalty when German captain (and fearsome mean bastard) Lothar Mattheus tripped Aaron Lines in the box as he bore down on goal. Should have been 2-1...

Pleasantly surprised to see a current Football Fern featuring as one of the greatest Maori sportspeople of all time in Joseph Romanos' new book "100 Maori Sports Heroes" - Rebecca Rolls, Football Ferns back-up goalkeeper at the Olympics.

Has her own entry with a nice photo and a page or two of text. Mainly there for her cricketing exploits. Didn't realise she's one of our greatest women cricketers of all time as a wicketkeeper and third highest one-day international run-scorer.
Made her debut as Football Ferns goalie in 1994 and then subsequently concentrated on cricket till retiring from the White Ferns and returning to the Football Ferns in February this year.
Book also features former All Whites Wynton Rufer and Harry Ngata. Wynton's on the cover and at number five in the book.
On sale at every bookstore (cheapest probably at the Warehouse). Bookstores stocking it here:

I LOVE LAMP
My understanding was that there was no TV coverage at all? Not in NZ anyway. Might be wrong.

Just beaten Scotland it appears?
Meh! :-)
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Hows does this tournament sit in terms of Women's football worldwide? Glad to see the girls doing great.
Seems to be a strange setup. 3 groups of 4, but if you're in a weaker group and even if you win all your games you can't really make the finals. http://www.cypruswomenscup.com/
I think the Football Ferns are in the stronger group, but it's just good to see them playing.
I tried to find a stream, but I haven't seen any, so I am not sure if it's being televised anywhere.

Pretty sure the group are seeded. A and B are the top groups, and C is kind of like a development group.

If we don't beat England do we play another game for a final placing or is that the end of the tournament for us?
Football Ferns go down 3-1 to England. Scored in the 7th Minute and held the lead for much of the match. Seems a familiar tale.
They will now play Switzerland on Thursday morning for 3rd place.
Finally we do to a team, what our team has suffered on many occassions. Well done to them.
Beating world no. 11 Italy 2-0 in this tournament was a great result & should boost the Ferns' (no. 21) world ranking
(beating Switzerland - ranked 26, and Scotland - ranked 23, were good results also but more expected).
England (ranked 8) beat Canada (7) in the final this morning 1-0.
Roll on Football Ferns' next fixture against FIFA Women's Champion Japan on June 20 !!!

Where does everyone think we'll be on the 22nd. Im thinking top 15.
Was watching the Nix last night when all of a sudden at halftime the channel was switched to a 6 Nations replay on ESPN.
When I asked if it could be switched back please (as I had requested from the outset to watch right through and there was no conflicting LIVE sport apart from Golf but no-one else was watching), response was "oh you mean that girls' game? The one where they use their feet and they don't handle the ball?".

Where were you Ahmad? Sounds like hicksville
Dunedin. If the opportunity arises I am secretly hoping to convince one of the lads to find this guy on Friday night and tell them he plays for the national side in this girls' game.

"oh you mean that girls' game? The one where they use their feet and they don't handle the ball?".
This was a stock standard comment in NZ in the 1960s-early 1980s, along with "kiss and kick game", "socca poofs" etc.
Harden up...(ooops that's another one). Did you tell that guy to get back into the box labelled " 1971"? I would have...

The majority of the squad is currently in Canberra preparing for two games against Australia on June 13, and will be bolstered by the arrival of Yallop and Ali Riley from Sweden before the second match on June 16. The full squad will then travel to meet world champions and world-number three Japan in Fukuoka on June 20.
In a boost for women's football the games against Australia on Sunday 16 June and Japan on Thursday 20 June will be screened live on SKY Sport. The New Zealand broadcaster will also screen Football Ferns matches from Switzerland later in the year, and negotiations with the number one ranked USA side are in progress.
The matches against two top 10 teams will provide a strong test for the Football Ferns and one that Readings is keen to utilise.
"Australia and Japan are two of the strongest sides in the world, and playing such quality opposition will only help our preparation for the pinnacle events coming up," said Readings.
New Zealand kickoff with a game against the Matildas behind closed doors on Thursday 13 June. The Football Ferns are currently ranked 20th in the FIFA World Rankings with Australia ranked ninth and Japan third.
