Think that the crowd for Welly will be very disappointing. One one hand I hope Auckland get a bigger crowd and on the other..

I have just scrolled through this fred (looking to see if people had noticed that the cheap tickets only apply to the ends and are quite different from Nix games).

It is very amusing.

Definately noticed and had a wry smile when I heard marketing as tickets ranging from $16? children to $49 for adults......and thats at the ends.  Nothing to stop one buying cheap and then sitting in the empty more expensive seats...sits back and waits for righteous indignation about ripping off NZFA...

Overpriced and unrealsitic perception of level of interest in general.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Seems to be missing the build up like the 'one shot for glory' campaign. Hopefully Big Winnie, Lord Nelsen and co can start to stir things up.. cause at the moment, these matches definitely need more cowbell.

Too much pessimism too soon guys.

I'm sure another 3000 - 4000 tickets will sell by Saturday and there will be another 4000 - 5000 walkups - thats over 20,000 - not far from full house at north harbour :)

Saw that. Wasn't a great press conference either, though it sounds like the press were more interested in Nelsen years from now than getting revenge on Paraguay. Focus, people!

I don't live in NZ, but I've had my 8th or 9th moment in the last few weeks when talking to someone about coming home for the games and they've said "there are All Whites games this weekend?"
No one seems to know about them. Way to "back up our WC success" eh.

???

How so? Street parade was for efforts in the World Cup.

This is a friendly. What's the connection?

Mr Loser's comments can be interpreted two ways:

a) he's dissing football fans for being fickle;
b) he's dissing football for being a pathetic sport which can't keep a following up.

Only if it's case (A) do I think he might have a point.

99% sure he's talking about the fickle nature of the fans, and how they should continue their support. He might have his moments of droll commentary but he's not an asshole by any measure

Got my tickets but not that excited to be honest - why ?

Whilst I enjoyed the Boca game I found it a strange feeling when we scored - I didn't really care - certainly nothing like I care when the Nix score - why ?

Cared a lot when we scored against Bahrain - why ?

The answers for me reflect whether or not there is anything on the game. Personally I would far rather watch the All Whites against Thailand or Japan or South Korea or .... in an Asian qualifier than against most other teams other than the top 4 or 5 in the world.

Not wanting to reignite the OFC vs AFC debate but I envy Australia having alternating campaigns for the WC and AFC i.e. more games that matter.

The marketing campaign for the Paraguay games has also been flaky - some Oprah type home coming. Should have been along the lines of watch our premiership players (Ryan, Reid....) against stars from (fill in clubs) playing for the 17th rank team in the world.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

I actually said that less than 20k was disgusting

that was based on the thread about Winnie going to NZ for the games.

It is important that football is imprinted on peoples minds. They can come see the stars from the WC,and hopefully that will lead to more juniors taking up the sport seriously, and will lead to more football fans and an expansion of the sport here.

Maybe it just means more to him to play his first international(s) at home, in front of his family and friends and maybe 40-50 thousand people who f**king love him, than to stay behind and worry about whether he's in the match day squad for an away trip to Wolverhampton.

[QUOTE=liverpoolfan1]

You keep saying "nothing game", "meaningless", "basically no-one turning up", "crap crowds", "handful of fans".... but I'm not sure any of those apply to these matches.  Sure, they're not qualifiers for anything  but they have massive significance given what happened at the World Cup and the constant urgings from just about everyone for NZF to capitalise and "not repeat the mistakes of '82".  They are the first step towards keeping the All Whites in the shop window, retaining football's profile here and making these guys accessible to their fans.

Estimates are for around 20 thousand people at each game ... apart from the Bahrain game I don't think there's been a home crowd that big for an All Whites game for nearly three decades.  It's hardly a crap crowd.

frankie will enjoy his wee moment.

Still, we could push up about 20k for auckland game, which should still create a decent vtbe as capacity 22k.

also, until bahrain, the biggest home crowd for AWs match since the 82 campaign was, Im pretty sure, the 20-odd thousand that watched us play socceroos in 01 WCQ at caketin. So if north harbour gets close to full, it will be the second biggest AWs crowd in 25 years. so not a disaster.

just thinking, when england came in 91, there were about 10-12k in wellington and not sure about auckland. and that was ENGLAND with Lineker. so we are hardly back to the bad old days yet.

Yea, crowds not be to the large amount that we may have hoped for, but there's not really a historical context for getting massive crowds in these types of games, so not necessarily a shock or something to worry about.

A decent crowd will be a good building block for the future though. Even if we lose money, it'll be worth it.

It is just funny how the comments have changed from "this is a chance for all the fans to come out and support them - the players owe us that" to "well an evening game is pretty inconvenient" and "15k would be really good as it is only a friendly".

Would it be rude of me to say that it's partly because I won't be seeing the Nix for a few weeks since the last home game?
