I don't know the date of the announcement,
but it seems that the head coach notified each person last Friday,
so an announcement will be made soon.

Still no news? It's only about two weeks until kick off.

Surely an announcement is due any day now? One would have to assume all those that will be involved have already been notified.

See New Caledonia, Brazil & Ecuador have named their squads already, with Japan sounding like their squad will be announced today.

I'm really looking forward to the announcement too, but I think the possibility is that there are injuries and they are making those adjustments.
I'm looking forward to the announcement of the Japan national team in a few min.

According to Andrew Voerman it was supposed to be today/tomorrow.

So I guess it's safe to say it will be happening tomorrow then...
25 Oct 05:34
Japan's U17s have training matches announced against the Kanto University Selection on 31 Oct and Mexico U17 on 6 Nov.
New Zealand is slow to announce, and there is no concrete schedule, so it's a bit of a blur.

safe to say it wasn't "today or tomorrow" ?

Voerman working for NZF these days is he?

We will probably find out when they take the pitch
26 Oct 08:36
Do we atleast have a warm up game or two before the tournament kicks off.

Voerman is feeding off scraps of information though, if NZF say "we'll be announcing in the next 24-48 hours" then why would he not report it as such. If NZF then fail to meet their own deadline, which they often do, who is to blame, the reporter who beloieved what he was told or the agency that is utterly useless?

Seems NZF for whatever reason can't get their ducks in a row.

My previous post was alluding to the fact that it was already 7pm at the time, so an announcement was probably unlikely at that point of the evening.

It's just stupid shart like this from nzf that really fudge me off! To numpties cliping the ticket in football in this country!
29 Oct 18:38

How can this possibly be an issue that effects you? The delay is due to uncertainty around an injury – I would imagine probably the same one that's kept a player out of the first two Phoenix matchday squads. I was told at the end of the All Whites window that last Wednesday was pencilled in, then on Wednesday was told Thursday, and on Thursday I was told Friday, or when the injury issue is resolved. I fail to see how this is something worth getting upset about. The players selected have been informed weeks back.

I'm guessing AV is referring to 17 yr old Luke Supyk.
Very interested to watch 16 yr Sloane Rodrigues at this WC. Seems huge wraps on him, incl Chiefy.

Could he even make a Nix senior match day squad before season end? Seems like plenty of Weenix youngsters are training around the first team squad. Debut for 18 yr old Gillion on Saturday.

Lack of transparency. I live in an area where my local organisation failed to book the venue for Futsal so start of it was delayed after many parents already paying...
Another example nzf not putting out a write about about their own national league until Thursday. Not one incident but a number at accumulate to getting passed off.

Wouldn't it be nice though if NZF themselves were like hey we are delaying the squad naming - here is the new date we will announce the team.  It speaks to lack of professionalism when they do things like this and don't communicate with the footballing public, regardless if it's for a good reason or not.  Same things were at play with the All Whites coaching announcements or lack thereof.

NZF hadn't announced an original date for naming the team, so why would they announce they were delaying it?
30 Oct 21:03
some transparency around a date is what people are after Andrew. Tournament starts soon. I guess we will have to wait til kickoff.
30 Oct 21:18
There may be no set date for naming the squad, but it does look bad when every other country has and we haven't... but how much of Joe Public know that or care?

There is no 'media buzz' about the team to warrant naming them either - and unless they do something special at the WC, they're unlikely to get much traction other than a 30 second courtesy clip of Germany destroying us.

Such big lolz at the thought that NZF would be transparent and open about anything.
Media don't really care about football, we've just losta rugby world cup, theres barely any manetion of the other (cricket) world cuyp that's going on, let alone anything football related. I absolutely hate that our news media is bombarded with rugby news to the point that it gets 3-4 mentions before the actual sports news.

Other teams like Japan will likely have all their players based at home though. NZ have a sprinkling of players like Coveny, Argent brothers (Perth), Dupont (West Brom), Watson & Leuluai based overseas. Is one of them carrying a niggle that the U17 team medical staff need clarity on? Luke Supyk obviously is.

Or is there a last minute eligibility issue that needs sorting out? It wouldn't surprise.

This U17 WC in Indonesia is for us basically in our backyard for once. Shortish travel journey. The team also go in with some reasonable prep from that 3 game tourney few mths ago in Japan. All the NZ based players are likely training together in Albany. But yeah you'd hope there are 2 friendlies lined up in Indo next week, before the first game against Venezuela 12th Nov (2 weeks away).

Who said media - they have a website and social media and paid media people, how hard is it to get information to the football public in a timely and professional manner

Take

Probably as good as we can ask for.

Good to see Paris in there - he was making U17 camps as a 13-year-old a few years back. Ukich deserves his shot too, good stuff

Don’t know anything about Athan Thompson at the Nix - never been in a squad before if i’m right?
31 Oct 02:38
I wonder where Riley Peach is in the pecking order.

Still only 15 or 16 I believe and not sure if his club Costa City actually play competitive football, but there have been huge wraps on the kid for a while due to his time in La Masia.
31 Oct 02:39
5 defenders seems light? I guess Leuluai can cover there in a pinch and maybe others, but on paper it feels a little unbalanced.

Valley FC til I die?

I think it's built towards a 3-4-3 or a variant of. D'Hotman and Murphy are wingbacks listed in the midfielders. Isaako also lined up in the back three in the qualifiers so can definitely play there if necessary.

Hopefully they have enough minutes in the legs, the non-National League guys will be out of season for a bit. D'Hotman missed a fair chunk of the back-end of Melville's season too.

It's been a long time since Paris was selected.
Ukich hasn't been selected since the camp last October.
As for Athan Thompson, I don't know anything about him either.

No, it wasn't - Paris Dlamini was also selected for the friendly against New Caledonia in July.
31 Oct 03:19
I did not expect D'Hotman to be selected.
I thought he had a lingering injury, and I had seen an article in Melville that he was not selected for the squad.
I'm sure there must have been a delay in announcing the squad for a number of reasons.

Both Murphy and Prathumphithak are registered as midfielders, but I believe they are wingbacks.
I feel that the team are more midfielders, but I think they will probably use a variable system 3-4-3 or 3-5-2

What I like to see is that their are other clubs mentioned in their that seem to have solid academy programs set up, fencibles, Melville, Christchurch United.
31 Oct 06:32
Looking forward to watching this team, they impressed me at the qualifiers especially in attack. Good to see some new additions...they must be of better quality good signs. tough group but cant wait!
31 Oct 08:36
They were terrible in Japan. Be prepared.
31 Oct 19:57
some changes and a settled squad now. dare to dream.
