Yeah, pretty close ...

If Croatia vs Guatemala is a draw, we qualify.

If neither Australia or Ecuador win, we qualify (they could both draw and we'd still go through).

If Australia draw, they will be equal points with us but with more goals scored though...

Yes but with a negative goal difference, which counts first.

Seems the most likely outcome would be Australia and Ecuador failing to win. Can't really see Guatemala getting any points off Croatia.

If Australia draw they will have a -1 goal difference, the same as us, but they will have more goals scored.

we have the a negative gd to of minus 1, so if aus got raw would have -1 and same points but more goals scored

Yeah that's true ... so we need to Australia to lose. My mistake.

So, recapped...Colvinator had it spot-on...there are two ways we can qualify.

(1) If Croatia vs Guatemala is a draw, we qualify.

OR...

(2) If Spain beat Australia AND Ecuador don't win vs Kosta Rica, we qualify.

Even TV3 are reporting that we've been knocked out:

http://www.3news.co.nz/Junior-All-Whites-bundled-out-of-World-Cup/tabid/317/articleID/221284/Default.aspx#yellowfever

That's Gourdie's credibility DESTROYED IN SECONDS!

That headline doesn't match the story ... in the story they say the playoff hopes are still alive, if slim.

Thought as some are saying here: Marco needed to play either wider or a free ranging role and we needed to give the ball to him.

We lost the physical game too- they had big players up front, in the middle and at the back- only started to do better later after Galbraith came on. Thought he did good. If we are going to play lump it forward ball (and no end of bloody long throws!) at least need some large units who can bring the ball down or control better.

Moose2 did seem to do ok- but was a bit slow to cover on the goal.

Really frustrating game to watch as a NZ fan

Galbraith reminded me of Peter Coruch/Fallon, tall and lanky forward..Azevo2011-08-06 13:51:08

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

How complicated is this qualification???

The boys looked a bit flat today, I wonder if it was one game too many for them after a big effort in the other two. Then again Portugal started to tire in the 2nd half as well. They had some classy players though, Oliviera in particular looked very handy.
At least if they don't go through they can still come home with their heads held high. Definitely no disgrace in those results.

Portugal looked to me the least impressive of the sides we played so far, kind of funny that they top the group while the most impressive side in my eyes is out.

Thought they were content to just sit on their lead knowing it would secure them the top spot, and we just weren't able to do much when chasing the game.

Oliveira's attitiude in the game reminded me of Feverish when he occasionally plays in a lower grade.

We struggled to create anything but also restricted Portugal more than cam or uru. Despite losing it was poss most even contest of three games.

Strictly speaking, Milne hasn't played at international level either, only at youth international level.
