Heres my prediction of what the starting lineup might look like with a few positions being extremely difficult to pick. 

Diver (Toughest postion to pick IMO)

Karunarante gor the CAM role IMO. Lovely feet.

Him, Conchie and Manuel should know each others game inside out which will help in qualifiers... team half gelled already.

Surman is going to be a very key figure.

Or just realistically knows that for international football, NZ is an easier road than Canada with it's 38M plus popn. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm sure his dad is well aware of whatever Canuck talent his son would be competing against. And from Wiki the family were in NZ for about 8 years (2003-2011), so yeah would have fairly strong ties to Godzone.

Be nice also pick up Vaughan Coveny's son at some point.

Yep, definitely very interesting, but a pleasant surprise. Was in the second-to-last Canada U20 squad, just a few months ago, and just missed out on selection to the 2022 CONCACAF U20 Championship squad - maybe a bit of resentment? Must be a unique situation with your dad as the big boss

Also, feel it's important to note that 14 out of the 27-man squad are currently in the Wellington Phoenix setup. Reckon that togetherness will prove important in the tough conditions

The squad lists for all 11 nations taking part in the OFC U-19 Championship 2022 in Tahiti next month have been confirmed.

The tournament runs from September 8-25 (New Zealand time), with the top two teams qualifying through to represent Oceania at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023™.

Among those named for the tournament is Solomon Islands striker Raphael Lea’i, who earlier this year was named Player of the Tournament at the Oceania Qualifiers in Qatar after a string of stunning displays which helped his side to the final.

Others taking part back in their age-group after travelling with their national senior team this year are Fiji’s Nabill Begg, who made his debut in Qatar in a friendly against Vanuatu, and Tahitian keeper Anapa Debruyne.

New Zealand, who have won the past two additions of the tournament, are coached by New Zealand senior team assistant Darren Bazeley, while the Cook Islands are coached by Alan Taylor, who coached the country’s senior team in Qatar.

Well his Dad did the same playing for Samoa U20s as a 14 yr old!! That actually cap tied him to Samoa.

It was only after FIFA changed the rules allowing you to switch allegiances that he could play for the Socceroos.

Friendly against U19 Fiji side tomorrow 31st August @2pm at McFetridge Park 

1-1 fulltime against Fiji U19 today. Only managed to catch the second half where NZ dominated possession but just wasn't able to create any meaningful attacks apart from in the 63rd Minute when an NZ player was fouled inside the box resulting in a penalty which was calmly converted by 17 year old Kian Donkers.

Overall pretty promising signs heading into the qualifiers considering they were missing Surman , Karunaratne , Manuel and Lorenz who were all away with the nixs first team. 

I don't know if I'd say positive - yes we are missing some players, but I still expect us to beat Fiji u19 sorry.

“After 2020 had to be cancelled due to Covid-19, I’m really pleased to finally be able to name the squad for this tournament and get our age group activity back underway” says head coach Darren Bazeley.

The team will depart for Tahiti on Monday 5 September apart from Eastern Suburbs players Jackson Jarvie, Joseph Knowles and Aaryan Raj who will be taking part in the Chatham Cup final on 11 September against Auckland City before joining up with the squad.

I heard that Lea'i himself didn't have the visa issues that prevented him trialling last month, it was his entourage apparently. Heard he was going to go solo in December - sounds like things may have changed with the reports that they've agreed terms already

7 from Nix, and with Jay Herdman based overseas, only three starters from truly domestic clubs.

Love the impetus the Nix have put into the youth space, but can certainly understand accusations of favouritism or having a domestic monopoly. Auckland A-League club soon, please...

Just off the first team not playing in the New Zealand competition. But it's just terminology, not really bothered whichever way you call it. 

NZ 1-0 up through Kian Donkers, having about one shot per minute at this rate, gonna be a rout by at least five I'd say. 

Cooks keeper really doing a good job keeping the score at 1-0, blocked several decent sots thus far.

Because to compete in the domestic leagues they need a special agreement with NZF and CF or an MOU with a truly domestic club
