no gleeson either? was this because he has just got a chance at the starting spot at portland?

also no Brockie? I know it was expected, but this the NZF, and isnt there moto "always expect the unexpected or at least for us to comprehensively fudge up".

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

I know Chris James isn't everyone's cup of tea, but Moses Dyer over him and Dan Keat? Bizarre.

At the end of the day I think most New Zealanders would be comfortable with that

Fudge, that squad looks really weak. Why the hell is Moses Dyer there???? He hasn't even got a gig in the ASB Premiership, would've preferer Clapham or even Feneridis over him

I think Dura was rank this year so not too surprised about that.  People on here are loyal to him but he was pretty bad

On this theme, Williams and Marinovic are pretty good - the AWs wont mostly miss Moss maybe

I think Moss should be there but I am inclined to agree that he is not an automatic starter for the AWs - I think he's the incumbent because there was no-one else for 3 years

Full disclosure required, when you recommend a player you have to state when you last saw them play a full match

there were times, where i really judged ricki's line ups (especially mexico) as taking the piss. Hudson, however, has managed to take it to a whole new level.

So, which island team should I put money on to win the tournament? Fiji? New Caledonia? Tahiti? Solomons?

I'd lean towards one of the French Speaking Nations I reckon.  Find somewhere offering a book first though.  TAB have said only individual matches.

I would think that's a fair conclusion - Gleeson, Moss, Marinovic, and Williams are all around the same level (sure you can argue the order, but the difference between the four wouldn't be stark), so if you have 2 of those guys then is there a need for a 3rd? It does seem fair to give that 3rd keeper spot to a young guy so he can gain experience (either Tzanev or, in this case, Crocombe)

So might as well let Gleeson get some game time with the club that pays his rent/mortgage

The Herald described Marco Rojas as a "promising youngster"

I mean why would you not bring De Vries over the likes of rogerson, fallon or smeltz. The only young players that should be in the squad are the ones good enough, this is not a club, leave the youth in the youth national sides till they actually prove something.

What, no tournament winner option? Disappointing

That midfield is just getting worse and worse. Lewis and Dyer? I bet you could find guys kicking around down at the park on a Sunday who would do just as well.

Defence looks horrendous as well. Thank god for Themi.

Ah, the Herald is probably just copying and pasting the press release then.

That's bizarre though, surely in the context of NZ football generally and this squad specifically Marco is way beyond being a promising youngster?

When you have more caps than all the defenders in the squad, you are probably a veteran.......

The worst thing about this is that when Fiji (my money's on them) win this, we won't even be able to muster enough outrage about the embarrassment and keep the forum going strong for a few days, since it's pretty much expected now anyway.

I fully expect us to lose this tournament. I guess it'll make it easier when we do.

I still struggle to understand how someone who is paid to play football can be left out of a team for someone who is not.  It just seems a bit perverse given football's meritocracy

Our midfield for that tournament included, Christie, Mulligan, Clapham and a broken Tim Brown and I'd rather that midfield.

Andy Barron. Lol. Remember when it was a massive deal to have a non-professional player in the AWs and at a major tournament?
