Who scored the 8th goal???
Permalink Permalink
about 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Aaron Scott scored the eighth goal.

The draw takes place in Beijing on April 20.

There is no such team as the Oly Football Ferns. Unlike the men's competition, the women's tournament has no age restrictions - both qualifying events and the finals themselves are contested by the full national teams of all contenders.

Cheers,

Well Oly-Ferns did sound kinda cool and in keeping with the Olympic spirit etc.

If the Oly-Whites don't go wouldn't it play havoc with the draw? Maybe an uneven amount of teams? Or a ring in to even things up.

I had assumed that Oceania have 1 place - if the winner of the qualifiying competition is ineligible to take part, then the next best side would take their place...(I think something similar happens in Europe, with England, Scotland etc in the qualifying process but unable to qualify)

the following from the Solomon Islands-Fiji match on the OFC website suggests that may be the case...

New Zealand's qualification for Beijing is dependent upon approval by New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) next week adding extra importance to this match in terms of final placings.

Thanks DwerdnA.
Telfer is interviewing Gordon Irving about this issue in a couple of minutes on radio sport.

Good interview.  Cheers.  Even though he didn't say, even that old heartless crocodile Telfer seemed sympathetic... Stevo2008-03-10 15:59:16

would blackburn release nelson for the olympics? is that an official international window?

Permalink Permalink

Not playing international football myself, but i would considered the honour of going to the Olympics must be just behind going to the world cup (not in quality/competition wise) . I would like to think he would be dying to go!

Nelson isn't going to go to the Olympics. Due to the non-existance of a British team, Olympic football gets no exposure in England so he's not even going to be getting any pressure from Blackburn or the media - and no way would Blackburn see the tournament as important enough to release him for. I'm not sure what the rules are for selected players and the Olympics - is it like the FIFA tournaments where the club doesn't officially have a say?

LOL all this coming from some-1 that tryed to tell me i was wrong about the nix`s  getting short changed from the FFA where teams get a share of finals gate revenue but the nixs only get 68% or 32% less of lets say melbourne victory share.
Plz stick to Free Football Spreadsheets u might be onto somthing.

  Had a reply from Barry Maister-that was good of him, but his abreviated argument is poor;

Thank you for your interest in this

For your information, ALL Games team  selections are based on a predetermined and agreed selection criteria ( agreed between the sport and NZOC) and selections as always should be as fair, transparent,  and as consistent across all sports as  is possible

The agreed criteria have been known to all parties for some 12 months

Barry

Barry Maister

Secretary General

New Zealand Olympic Committee

I thanked him then fired off another email again asking for his resignation and that of his co- conspiritours if they  persist in this crap.

Its OK for him (1976) to win a gold medal against the odds so why deny others the same opportunity when they have qualified within the rules???????
  ABSOLUTE DISGRACE

WTF? I tried to tell you what? When was this? I don't recall telling anyone they were wrong about gate share.

And what the hell has it got to do with me querying whether Blackburn would release Nelsen and then asking what the release rules are for the Olympics?

Did you miss a happy pill or something? FFS!

Apparently the tour physio (Roland Jeffery), who is all the men's teams physio said that this bunch of boys was the best team he's EVER travelled with in terms of attitude, team spirit!! And he's been involved for 6 years... so would be a shame if these boys don't get a chance on the World Stage...

C'mon the U23's!

Looks like Killen and Neilson would play if selected!

"....After forms were sent players who could come into the side under the "three players over 23 rule", former All White captain Ryan Nelsen, now captain of Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League, and Celtic's Chris Killen made themselves available.Phoenix players Shane Smeltz and Tony Lochhead have also said they would play if selected..."

MON THE OLYWHITES.
It'd be awesome to see Nelsen, Killen and Smeltz playing Lochhead as well.

Only three of those guys can play in the tournament.

So which one of the four would people drop?
I can't decide between Smeltz and Lochhead since I don't know how good the defence and attack actually are.
