New Zealand won 1-0 with Bahrain. New Zealand played in the first play-off without Australia which had moved to Asia and New Zealand was lucky to beat Bahrain with a penalty save from Paston.

And the score was? We deserved our place at the WC and did it by beating Bahrain. "That's why they play the games....."
Can't seem to see mention of it on the OFC or NZF sites but has anyone heard about us getting Asian refs for the last two round robin games after the debacle in Tahiti and Chch?

NZF CEO Grant McKavanagh admitted he was unsure if the cards would carry over into the intercontinental playoffs: "It that was the case it would be a bad situation but I am not sure what we could do about it."
Clearly they do that's why Moss was suspended last time around. That's a rubbish call from OFC, wiping the cards at the end of the 1st qualifying round for a single nation who was never going to make it anyway.

I would be extremely happy if we got Strebre.

Is O'Leary really our best - thought Hester would be ahead of him - in fact my Mum is probably better than O'Leary.

Yes but we were lucky to have got a 0-0 draw.

But also more chances to get suspensions out of the way before the play-off.

The CONCACAF vs OFC has been set for November 13th & 14th in CONCACAF
And the return leg is set for November 20th (mid week game)
Any one know how official this is?
Likelihood to change?
I say tackle him in the face.
Extremely unlikely to change.

I was stunned today to get an email from FFA offering me tickets for next June's Australia WC home matches..talk about forward planning!
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
Has there been any word on where the All Whites vs New Caledonia game will be played?
I say tackle him in the face.
I think it will be at the Westpac Stadium because Nix are playing the Jets there on the 23rd March.

Hardly any different from us trying to get Durante, although he has not played for Oz
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Lol, um too bad he's already represented NZ?
People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.
It's just a flattering joke. I don't get why people get worked up about this. Same as with the Olympics and the Australasia gag.
Who is getting worked up?
Though yeah people getting worked up over the Olympics gag was actually embarrassing.

Just as a side issue, is it worth looking at Durante as a central midfielder for the All Whites? It seems a bit of a cludge but we are really struggling there.
I haven't seen Durante play as a C/DM but honestly, I don't think I'd want to. He is a very solid CB and will fill in for Nelsen well when his time comes (assuming that's not too far away).

What makes you think that he will give up his Oz heritage to become a 'kiwi'?

Nothing. It was suggested 'is it worth looking into him as a central midfielder' and he replied to say if we were to look into him for anything, it'd be in defence.
It's just being discussed as a possibility.

I must I had that same thought re Durante in the middle of the field as I was reading down the page.
In a lot of respects, Ivans day job is as a defender yet he plays internationally as a DM. Manny has converted to being a DM. If you looked at Durante v Ivan, are they that different in skill set? The only difference is tactical positioning which Ivan already had playing as a midfielder previously. Durante is a smart guy and would be an upgrade in terms of pace and mobility. Whether he could learn it on the fly (and where would he for another point)
Admittedly the above is pie in the sky but its not as far a reach if people wanted to explore it. Hey we looked at Killen in the midfield... As El grap said in another thread, that is the most glaring hole in our team and with Wee Mac sure to start and Keat/Payne not exactly grabbing the chance, a retired/injured Elliott is still out best option. Oh for Tim Brown.
Grumpy old bastard alert
Tim brown is not a DM. Moving forward I think Payne is the likely candidate after his performances in the olympics
