Just realised 10 of them are all from club America. Interesting. Apparently there isn't enough time to get a diverse squad together so the coach has just gone with what he knows best!, being the America coach also.

NCEA study... thats nothing. I got up to watch the NZ vs Italy game during the world cup at 3 a.m and had a final (4th year) civil engineering university exam the next morning at 9 a.m. I was only going to watch the game until we were down by 1 or 2 goals... Suffice to say I passed the exam and it was well worth staying up for the match.

One thing I'm a bit worried about - we're talking about flying in the evening of the match.  That gives us no time to acclimatise to the altitude.  I'm no expert but wouldn't you want a few days training there at altitude??

Mexico City is about 500-700m higher in altitude than Joburg, but lots of rugby teams try and travel from a lower altitude as close to game day as possible. It seems better than a few days at altitude, anything longer is not normally viable.

Wow very interesting article. No European players. So no Chicharito at all then. Big move.

It isn't a fifa window so they aren't available.

See my post back on page 180 of this thread near the bottom - not only are they not available, he doesn't want them anyway. Finland game is the first of three friendlies incl. two against club sides and sounds like he won't be calling up any Europe-based players for the play-offs:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/9308251/Mexico-squad-named-for-All-Whites

MEXICO SQUAD NAMED FOR ALL WHITES

Mexico City (Reuters)

"The 22 players in the squad the stocky Herrera, nicknamed Piojo (louse) picked for a friendly warmup against Finland on October 30 are all with Mexican clubs.

''There are lots of America people because there's little time to work, because they know perfectly well what we want on the pitch and this way we can reach the level we need a lot quicker,'' Herrera said.

He added that it was unlikely he would call any of Mexico's foreign-based players like Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez and Villarreal's Giovani dos Santos because they were not in good form."

More info (including news conference videos in English translation - they play automatically in sequence):

Seems the players named yesterday are the basis for the play-off games - but he will name his final selection after three friendlies (v Finland Thursday next week NZT and two friendlies v club sides):

Tomorrow night should suit you fine. 1.48 a.m: NZ Under-17's v Cote d'Ivoire live; followed by 4 a.m. WSW v Nix replay; followed by 6 a.m Under-17 v Cote d'Ivoire replay, all on SS2.

Wishful thinking from Mexico fans - the squad to play Finland next Thursday NZT will be pretty much the same as will play NZ - two factors here - he's not going to waste time calling-up players for a friendly two weeks out from the play-off v NZ if he doesn't intend to use them in the play-off -  PLUS he's stated he doesn't intend to call-up any overseas players v NZ:

''There are lots of America people because there's little time to work, because they know perfectly well what we want on the pitch and this way we can reach the level we need a lot quicker,'' Herrera said.

He added that it was unlikely he would call any of Mexico's foreign-based players like Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez and Villarreal's Giovani dos Santos because they were not in good form."

I was fuckin waiting for Muddy Sneaker to get in on it. I swear the first and last time he had anything to say on football was 4 years ago, and even then he was only asking Smeltzy shit like 'why do soccer players take their shirts off when they score'. There would be more to gain for football in this country from not talking to him at all. If I were an AW my main goal would be not to make a WC, but to tell Muzza to go eat a dick on national tv.

You're right, it's  8 am Thursday 14 November NZT. Mexican sources say the game is 2 pm Wednesday 13 November in Mexico:

Not sure how that means it's weak - probably means they'll be more together as they play week in- week out together. By all accounts their 'stars' have been playing very poorly.

Mexico under new coach Herrera likely will be playing 5 - 3 - 2:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1819158-mexico-why-miguel-herrera-capped-10-america-players-for-el-tri

In defense "we will most likely see five defenders in that line. Miguel Layun will be a thriving force through the left flank. Juan Carlos Valenzuela and Francisco Rodriguez will guard the center of the box, with the help of Rafael Marquez, and Paul Aguilar will take his usual position in the right.

Offence: "America have the second-best offense of the Liga MX, having scored 27 goals so far. Raul Jimenez is one of the few players who have made it to every list of the national team this year. This season, the 22-year-old has scored seven times in 11 games, which means he has 63 percent effectiveness.

Herrera’s teams are known for being good with ball possession, so El Tri's midfield will probably be led by Juan Carlos Medina.

The goalkeeper will be Moises Muñoz. He may not have as much experience as Jesus Corona, but he is playing better in the local tournament. He has conceded eight goals in 12 matchdays. Corona has conceded 14 in 13 matchdays."

Excellent video predicting  Mexican line-up: 5 - 3 - 2 : no overseas players - "I wouldn't be surprised the line-up he'll use against NZ":

 http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1590575/miguel-herrera-says-carlos-vela-ruled-el-tri-recall?cc=3436

Three centre-backs Valenzuela, Rodriguez and Marquez (when the commentator says Valenzuela in midfield I think he mean Medina, as he already had Valenzuela in defence)

                                                                                    Munoz

                                     Aguilar                   Rodriguez          Marquez      Valenzuela                Layun

                                                                     Lobos                   Medina              Pena

                                                                      Jimenez                        Peralta

Ages of players:                    .                                       33

                                 27                              32                          34                       29                      25

                                                    32                                    30                             23

                                                                     22                                    29

Well worth a read and containing everything you need to know is this more detailed assessment of  Mexican squad and likely combinations:

EXCELLENT !!! The Mexicans have started a Facebook page supporting the All Whites. Only started 18 October and already 622 likes:

Use Google Translate as it's in Spanish but many fun opinions from Mexicans opposed to their team and federation and now jumping ship to support us. Many links to Mexican articles about the All Whites etc. - seems the All Whites and all things NZ are big news in Mexico right now!
