Comment posted on the warriors One Tribe site:

"Yeah this is cool, I love football, and it's great to see the Warriors giving a nod to the WC heroes of '82. Maybe we should see if we can get a chance going of "White here, White now" and show those boring rugby gits what a World Cup song should be like."

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I've responded to aikenmike on 4-4-2 as well, but yeah, the contrast between the 2 countries is different in that respect is big - the AFL board (especially) and the NRL & ARU boards (more than likely) would not do this for an Australian-based match.

Can some of you now see that we have an internal battle to promote the game over here?

Yeah na not going to call you that- I think most peeps think that it is pretty awesome, and you're spot on, highly unlikely in Oz. I'm thinking that it is definitely a small country thing though, Oz is too broad/big/wide ranging in interests to consider it.

Nobody hates you Buffy. That's just how you seem to interpret someone having a different point of view to you.

[QUOTE=Buffon II]Because people need support most when they are down. It's easy to jump on the back of something or someone successful. It's not so easy to be there for someone during a low point of their life

So does the same logic apply to the 35,000 crowd at the Bahrain game? Would it have been better if only the same hardcore 4,000 who turned up to the Vanuatu game had turned up for Bahrain?

I think any support the All Whites get is cool. Sure the Warriors get to look like good guys too, but they are still generating even more publicity for football.

No. But it will be interesting to see how many of those 35,000 come back to the next AWs home game whenever that is.

Three for me, and two for them.

Not comparing it to Aus but when the Poms won the Rugby WC in Australia a few years ago football fans up & down England at matches were heard to be singing "Swing Low" in acknowledgment just a few hours or so later.

Oh & NRL (not AFL afaik) got on the bandwagon here when the Socceroos were in Germany.

Maybe in the hope they'd get some freebies?

The Rugby League lot are very good in intersport relationships.

I suppose that since Union dominates the sporting landscape, every other sports seem to be in the back seat and they do acknowledge that well. League had such a long history of conflict with union especially in schools when schoolboy league players were isolated and insulted because they don't play union and having players switch from union and league all the time. Now there are better communications between those two codes. So if any team sport code that knows about being under the shadows of the AB/Rugby, it would be the League boys who have wrestled them on many occasions.

I cna see where Buff is coming from - in that this is possibly a little gimmicky - but rgimmicky or not, it shows that football is actually makking an impression on the rest of the sporting public and codes in this country. I personally thinks this si a great idea, the nix have helped out with the Pulse (netbal), we've taken advantage of the hurricanes being in town, so why wouldn't league try and create some extra buy in by showing their support for the AW's.

Yeah, the Nix helped out with the Pulse, who are the worst team in the comp by a mile. Despite that they still offered to show their support and get behind them during a tough time. Would the Warriors or All Blacks do that if we had been soundly beaten by Bahrain? Would they f**k.

Maybe if we'd also been beaten by fiji, and vanuatu, and new caledonia...
