Hogg, gives us cover at left back, good pace, excellent engine, not bad off his right and can dribble a ball.

I reckon he'd do Lochead in another year or two.

What about Hayne? He's gotta be a better proposition than Brockie or James right now.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

We definately need an option on the wing at at fullback, personally not convinced Hogg and Hayne are the ones but definately worth keeping tabs on them.
You know we belong together...

HERBERT  MUST  TAKE  PLAYERS    FROM  FORM  NOT FROM NAME ,   NZ  HAD  WAITED  28 YEARS   AND  TOO MANY  LOST  MONEY, THIS IS THE TIME TO  PUT UP  THE  STRONGEST  SQUAD  AVALIABLE

apart  from the  3 keepers   for me (paston + spoonley + moss)

defederes  if everyone is available

NELSEN ,  WINSTON REID ,  VICELLICH,  TOMMY SMITH,   LOCHEAD,  SIGMUND,  BOYENS,

MID

BROWN   MC GLINCHEY   ELLIOT   BERTOS   CRIS  JAMES    BROCKIE    HAYNE

ATTACKERS

KILLEN   WOOD  SMELTZ   FALLON   BARBAROUSES

FOR ME  THIS IS THE BEST  TEAM  NZ CAN  COME UP WITH,   THERE  IS   2  SPOTS  FREE  FOR THE  23  PLAYERS PANEL

A   DEFENSIVE  MINDED  MIDFIELDER  ( BARRON/MULLIGAN/OLD/PRITCHETT/ CHRISTIE/ COOMBES/ OUGHTON / )

THE GOOD  SIGN  IS THAT  NOW  THE  PLAYERS  TO  CHOOSE  FORM  IS BIGGER ,  MAYBE  ARROUND  40   GOOD  PROSPECTS  TO   CHOOSE  FROM

it is like in   NZ  , mate  we  are in the south ,  PATAGONIA ?

what about this team ?

i would  try  mulligan  as  a holding  midfielder  ala  mascherano,   small  , mobile,  fast ,    he needs  to  play  as  a holding  mid  for   international  football ..

who would  you pick  as  a reserve  holding midfieler?   barron/ ougton/mulligan/  coombes/pritchett/christie ?

regards

What is it with Mulligan? He can't get a game, or even onto the bench, for the Phoenix. But is always in Ricki's AW squad. Can't remember the last time he played.

What does Ricki see in him? (And you, Javier. )

mulligan   only as  a  holding  midfielder,  he is quick  fast   and  for  international football   ,  you need  your  faster  and  fastest  players  to  get mobility,

Confed Cup versus South Africa. Parker opened the score after his glaring mistake.
Javier, maybe as a reserve holding midfielder, but anyway not as a defender.

Strong looking team you have there but I'd put question marks over Brockie, James, and Barbarouses.  Brockie can be lazy and I very much dislike him - however he's been playing better and better for the Fury.  Barbarouses - I just doubt he'd cut it.  James - we've seen and heard nothing about him for a while so he could be a risk (ofcourse Ricki would have seen and heard a bit from him, though).

Of those defensive minded mids I'd definitely take Barron.  He is a good player.  Steven Old I would also take.

Whoever mentioned Hogg as potential cover for Lochhead, I must admit I like that idea.  Lochhead has played well once all year so a bit of competition would be good for him.

This BBC chat room on the topic of Tommy Smith playing for NZ is very interesting: they ask for comments and run a vote on the topic- all British (and Ipswich) supporters who respond, think he should go with the All Whites!
You can vote and comment too at:

I've never seen tommy play so who would you compare him to from NZ or aussie. Also last night I signed Rory Fallon ,Chris Killen and Tommy Smith for Sheffield Wednesday on Football Manager 09 and they all scored in a 3-0 hammering of Leeds.

Noice one. Strengthens the defense a bit. Right Back is still our biggest problem IMO. Come on Winston 'wiremu' Reid...

Apparently he's a lefty....normal position CD but can play left back. Good back up for Lochy. We already have Nelsen, Siggy and Vicilich as CD. I wonder if he could play further up the field as a holding left CM....might be worth a try as we are a bit light for CM's.

Even better if he could switch to RB....would play ever game if he could play there

Probably

Imagine....

                                             Pasty

                     Nelsen            Siggy/Ivan/Boyens
Reid                                                                            Smith

Bertos         Elliot            Brown/Oughton        McGlinchey

                 Fallon/Wood/Smeltz           Killen

Those 16 (if we can get Reid) + Moss and Banntyne leaves 5 spots, unless Ricki carries through with his plan to take the entire squad for the game against Bahrain (That would be a masive mistake IMO).

Amazing the amount of talent coming out of the woodwork and discovering their roots and changing allegances since it became evident we had a chance to qualify or have qualified

If I had the opportunity to play at the World Cup for a country I was only half way associated with I'd 'come out of the woodwork' too.

COming out of the woodwork ?  Fallon and McGlincey needed a FIFA rule change, pretty much as soon as the rule change occured they changed.

An Ipswich player in an All Whites shirt...  so much... Hard News2009-12-23 12:29:29

And what? The more good players we have the better chance we have of doing ok at the world cup. Quit your moaning.

We (NZF) have been chasing them, not vice versa.  Bit off to criticise them after Ricki dangles a WC squad spot in from of their noses.

Maybe add Jarrod Smith to that 'maybe' group.  Personally I don't think he has the greatest of chances but he has more than some of those others you'd think.
