yeah very silly to hold it on a weeknight in a massive empty stadium.
Kiwitea would have showcased a far better atmosphere, and having the game on a weekend a better crowd.
Having the final of an amateur competition on a weeknight is also idiotic. Often during the season teams were missing players for Thursday night games because of work commitments. You could forgive that for the TV coverage for regular season games, but this is the final - surely you want both teams to have the best chance at being full strength?

I would suspect that the reason it is on tonight is because of conflicting coverage with rugby and league - Thursday night is empty compared to Sat and Sun.....

An odd game.
Tactically Auckland started better and were for most of the game. I thought TWs front 3 were lazy in back tracking and it then allowed AC to push forward and create the overlaps. The 1st penalty was all shades of wrong. I was also a little surprised that Bale was not sent off and nor Feneridis too, whom should never play national league again for any side that thinks they are worthy. Just a below average footballer in so many ways.
For AC, I thought they played with an arrogance you get for being unchallenged as long as they have and the dour football they play, showed through at times. When they were in the unfamiliar position of having to chase the game, they had no idea how to and their game plan went out the window which was telling and they really resorted to Larry longball.
TW wanted it more and deserved it more. I'll eat my hat and say Tom Jackson MOM for as much as I am not his fan either. A special mention to the officials whom were out of their depth.

JV, I could have written that match precis myself.
Auckland's style of play doesn't seem to work without Tade and Lea'alafa on the pitch. When their build-up is so slow and deliberate, they seldom get behind other teams. Which is fine when you have someone to do the Messi stuff, but otherwise not.
I had expected Auckland to win, if for no other reason than Wellington's disciplinary shortcomings.
Well done to Tom Jackson - and the snarly, feisty, wound-up Harris
Not such a good game from referee Conger. I would rank him behind Nick Waldron, John Rowberry and Chris Kerr on summer form.
Congrats to Matt Calcott and his team - you have finally arrived. The win should be all the sweeter for having been live on TV.
