New teams and 3 teams in the southern third of the North Island.

This should give youth development in the Wgtn region a fair kick in the pants.

Please edit title big thumb print in there.

Canterbury United Dragons

Canterbury United has appointed Alan Walker as the 2013 Canterbury United Youth Head Coach.

Walker has coached the team successfully in the past, winning the title 2 of the 3 seasons he held the reins.

Walker is excited about further developing the youth players that are coming through the talent programmes from around the region. “I’ve enjoyed the role immensely in the past, and look forward to working with Keith and the Club in continuing to see Canterbury United succeed on the national stage.”

One of Walker’s first tasks will be to identify the up and coming players to challenge the established players to field the best team possible. An assistant coach will be appointed in due course.

Anyone have any idea of the plan for the intended make-up of the Northern-based U17 in the 2013/14 ASB Youth league (excerpt of NZF release below)?

Youth league starts AFTER this year's U17 WC (17th Oct - 8th Nov in UAE), so if it is the NEXT cycle of U17 players, they are 1998 and 1999; ie turning 15 and 14 this year.

May 10, 2013
AUCKLAND – The composition of the ASB Premiership will change for the first time in nine seasons with the inclusion of a national U-20 squad into the pinnacle domestic competition.
Following a complete review of the competition by the ASB Premiership Review Committee, the recommendation was made for the 2013/14 League to retain an eight team competition in the Premiership, but expand the ASB Youth League from 10 to 12 teams
Exact draw details for the ASB Premiership and ASB Youth League will be confirmed at a later date.

ASB Premiership – Auckland City, Waitakere United, WaiBOP United, Hawke’s Bay United, Team Wellington, Canterbury United, Otago United, NZ U-20

Looking at this wouldn't it have made more sense to put the Under 20 side in the ASB Youth League thus allowing a third Auckland franchise or Nelson in the ASBP?

Especially as the proposed U20 team will of course have to be an U18 team if they want them to make up the majority of the squad for the WC in 2015

Then would that be any benefit to the team, of course they will be playing together, but how much of a challenge would it be. I don't  fully agree with them playing in the national league but, it's obviously going to be better as they are playing at a higher level.

davor to coach Nelson Falcons for 2014 again - reward for last season's performance - trials dates announced today.

Permalink Permalink

No surprises there. However, the big surprise was last year's captain Mark Johnston getting the nod as assistant coach. I assume Coey Turipa will be back, so makes room for one more over age player. Wouldn't be surprised to see Gagame Feni or Sam Ayers fill that void.

Whereabouts are the trials?

Permalink Permalink

Are TW placing age limits on triallists? No consistency on this. Nelson and Otago taking 98 kids, Canty only 97 or older.

There is a rule, just some teams go younger on their own accord. Like how Nelson uses its two over age spots where teams with an ASB Premiership side would be less likely to do so.

Do you know the rule Luis? I know in Aussie, NYL players MUST be minimum age of 16; this rule is enforced for uniformity reasons; whether the club is big (sydney City or melbourne victory) or small (perth or newcastle).

Hi All

Capital Football wishes to “put to bed” a few of the rumours
which appear to be circulating with the entry of the Heartland Wairarapa side in
the upcoming ASB Youth League.

I make the following points;

•  Heartland Wairarapa made an application to
enter a side in the expanded ASB Premiership.

•  They were unsuccessful in their application but
were offered a team in the ASB Youth League; they did not apply for
this.

•  Capital Football were not spoken to by anyone
within NZ Football as to whether or not this was a “good” option; in fact nobody
from NZF has still not spoken to Capital Football about it to this
day.

•  Team Wairarapa approached CF sounding out their
“support” for the option offered by NZF.

•
This was discussed and endorsed by the Board of CF as an opportunity for further
advancing talented young footballers within the CF region but “support” was
given on the basis of a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the
parties.

•  Capital Football is represented on the Board of
Heartland Wairarapa in an advisory (non-voting) capacity as they are with Team
Wellington.

•  The MOU has been tabled at the recent Team
Wellington Board meeting.

•
The two clauses which “affect” clubs are (1) The Heartland Wairarapa team will
be selected after the Team Wellington Youth team is, and (2) No player
who plays for Heartland Wairarapa in the upcoming season(s) are able to be
recruited for the Wairarapa United side within a 12 month period unless there is
written agreement between Wairarapa United and the club that the youth player
currently represents.

•  Team Wellington Youth trials are scheduled to
occur on 1/11 and 8/11.

Should there be any further questions please feel free to
contact me.

Regards

Richard

are miramar also not allowed to sign players within 12 months of TW involvement without express permission?

I must admit I find it strange that clause is in there. If there are kids that can play CL, why not have them do so?

So I see the Falcons are now the Nelson Marlborough Falcons ..and a pre-season comp will be held in Blenheim while one regular season game is expected to go there too.

But that's silly. Tasman is like South/West of Nelson, covers Richmond-Motueka-Golden Bay area (so the opposite way to where Blenheim is)

Tasman makos? And i realise where tasman is but rugby team uses name - incorporates both

Yeah but I don't understand why. No one refers to Nelson and Marlborough as Tasman. They refer to it as the Top of the South. They call Tasman, Tasman.
