Sure it wasn't just an Auckland based chant? Or one relating to Riera?

Nah it was "Auckland City are shit, and they play in blue" or something along those lines, to the tune of I'll Say Goodbye by the Exponents.

Funny how the 7 other ASBP sides were not chanted about in the same manner though.

Perhaps the other 7 teams' supporters don't have an issue with the Phoenix......

This wasn't directed at the supporters though. What has the team done to upset YF exactly?

Beat them!!

Nice one.

And not only do the ACFC singers not slag off YF, the club also provided Ernie Merrick and co with a concrete dugout when he brought the Phoenix to Kiwitea Street. I see none of the A League clubs provide coaches and staff with more than exposed plastic chairs on the sidelines, much to Merrick's displeasure, which Frank Farina exposed as a security risk when a drink was thrown over him by an irate Sydney FC fan.

Fortunately Fred Taylor is not a danger in this manner as there are few fans anymore who attend. Even the dog has stopped turning up apparently.

It's wrong to slag off our feeder club.

Southern had to play a 16 year old in goal as Batty was out after needing a dozen stitches in his thigh  on Thursday.
Young lad did well in the first half, he found out that this team keepers and Joy (who's also out injured) aside the rest are rubbish.

It's about changing to three at the back for no particular reason at 2-0 down 55 minutes in and allowing Auckland to flood through gaps a mile wide with crisp short passing. Changed back to four at 8-0. Southern were always going to be beaten but the change from four at the back was inexplicable. Really quite impressed by the new striker. Big, strong with good movement.

they didn't HAVE to play a 16 year old in goal, they either chose to or created a set of circumstances where they didn't have proper cover available - i.e. no one would play for the shambles

This is a shame as I have a soft spot for Dunedin and liked the young players for Southern who came to Kiwitea Street recently. They even said how much they enjoyed the ACFC fans singing.

I hope letting 10 past doesn't shatter the confidence of a 16-year-old keeper.

By all accounts ACFC's new Portuguese striker looked the business.

I think their normal reserve keeper was unvailable due to personal or work committements, i read somewhere he was trying to get out of them once Batty got ruled out.

that is true, but i don't think the coach of what is effectively a rep team should end up with a 16 year old as third choice when there is a whole league of southern league goalkeepers in the area

true - from what I know he had Batty and a Brazilian keeper at the start of the season in the first team and then some guys in the youth team - the Brazilian picked up an injury and then this other guy was signed.
I'm not aware of when the window closes or if emergency loans can be done - but if not i think he is the victim of a bit of a GK availability crisis.

This.
There are five keepers that were eligible to play today. Batty - injured, Potrich - Work commitments, then three Youth team keepers (Stevens, Dijkstra and Whittaker). Because Batty was injured so late on this week, there was no time to apply for an emergency loan/transfer.

I did like the look of the new striker. Really class player and I was assured by Ramon post game that he was only running at about 75%. Promising sings.

Unlikely to play them at Kiwitea. In the same group with cross overs... They would need to get through a fair whack to get back to Kiwitea.

Grumpy old bastard alert

There was a time a game like this would attract 1500 spectators. Now we're less then half that and most at the ground were ACFC supporters. Such a shame.

Now over to you TW and HBU because one of you is going to the O League next year.

Behave BM, most of the crowd were not ACFC supporters. It just sounded that way!

I bet they were though. Nobody supports Waitak.

Three for me, and two for them.

I'd day over half the under 500 crowd were ACFC, I recognized a lot of them. I'm told at Waitakere home games this season (without ACFC) there was often less then 200 at Fred Taylor paddock. Waitakere supporters used to make a bit of noise, now you can hear a pin drop. No wonder the ACFC singers stood out. That's why it's a pity the well supported Canterbury team didn't make the playoffs.

I hope  Auckland United can get into the ASBP soon. ACFC needs another city challenge.

Maybe Wanderers will raise their game before they get to play against Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy, etc.

Hope not. Have the Phoenix been sniffing around Irving?

Unfortunately not enough. Irving is staying put from all I know. Also, from all we know, this guy could do a Marquez and disappear off again at any stage, so I doubt any player is getting permanently dropped. Could be just added firepower for hire - I suspect he'll be around for the O-League campaign, any longer than that.... Not sure
