Canterbury to cement their place in the finals this weekend.  This has been a fantastic turn around from the Monsef and late Halligan days - at last someone that can coach and has a rapport with the players and the fans.

I note you omitted the match officials .
Danny and Korosh will feel a mite miffed with this slight, both are very good coaches who struggled with limited resources. And the rapport with players might be a bit stretched given the number and quality of the players turning out for Otago but living here. Nevertheless it has been a very good season so far. Playoffs looming, hopefully we make the final and give the Northern dandies a run for their (pots of) money.

Canterbury may have been lucky to have got as close to HB as they did.
Early starts at the airport [6.30am] with a Saturday game day can be tough if you've had a busy week at work. Still no excuse at this level and i'm not saying that they did not give it their all.
We shall have to wait for Keith and the boys comments on the game.

from on otago pt of veiw it means that if we beat youngheart manawatu whatever happens between canterbury and wellington next week will keep us in the playoff race.
Ie (assuming we beat yhm) : canty win or match drawn we'd be in ahead of welly, if welly win canty would have to beat auckland (in two weeks) to knock us out and go through with welly. If they lost to welly and auckland (after us beating manwatu) otago would go through with welly.

Sounds like a whole lotta clutching @ straws.

Best stick to your own Otago (Canty B) thread.

No doubt we'll walk all over TW anyway, they're playing home away from home. I haven't noticed any rants from the Newtown Park faithful yet.

Is the play-offs only between the top 3?

That would explain my initial confusion.

Top 4 i think.

Three for me, and two for them.

Definitely top four.  With home and away series so at least 3rd and 4th get another home game.  Not sure what rules apply ie away goals etc....  Anyone know cannot find anything on NZFC site.

Well if it's top four there's nothing to worry about at all.

I could live to regret those words.

Last time I checked Porirua was in Wellington...

But you know. That's completely the same thing as playing a game 600km away.

As I'm aware it is  top four semifinals (1v4, 2v3) which is played over two legs with away goals in play if nessecary. The first leg is the the home ground of teams ranked 3 and 4 with the second leg at home for team 1 and 2. The final is one leg only played at the home ground of the team ranked highest at the end of the double round robin league season.

So in all probablness we'll have Auckland vs 4th Place (probably either Otago or Wellington) at Carisbrook/Newtown then Kiwitea and Waitakere vs Canterbury at English Park then Fred Taylor.

Hope that helps.

Can see it being the lowest NZFC crowd this year. Porirua + Tons in Sydney = Fail.

With Canterbury A securing their top 4 position maybe the A squad can put a four goal difference on Wellington to help out the reserves....

If anything Porirua is the central most area of Capital football. its plum in the middle of wellington, hutt valley and kapiti. for the people who cant be bothered heading into newtown, there wont be much of an excuse to not go to this match. i live in whitby and know a lot of people out this way who cant be bothered heading into newtown.

It was that many?  I was there but a little surprised at that number.  I quite like the grandstand at Porirua park.  Team Wellinton 2 Canterbury 0
The Canterbury coach(?) won the swearing competition by a long shot.

was 2-1 Product.
Was close to 125.  Sent someone out to count them for us.

Braithwaite is probably the only R rated coach in the league. Takes his own hairdryer to all games

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

It was a lovely afternoon and a cracking game of football. And TWs won. That's all that matters.

Must have been some good goalkeeping if Barron wasn't good enough to put it in the net.
Woodwork counts as off target in the stats report on a game.
