Good game I thought, although slightly pedestrian with passes along the back that seemed to go on for ever. Nice cut inside and goal for Feni. Manawatu didn't have many chances but could have stolen a draw at the end.

Good day out.

He's also had some poor interviews which rather than inspire have demoralised.
He's not a manager of a progressive club that plays attractive, winning football which is what I think everybody wants.

This is from an article on Roy Hodgson but you could put the Manawatu coach in the same light.

The Dragons defenders gave Tom Batty more problems than the Manawatu [or should that be Wertuisthegoal] players.

In the first half Batty was sweeping about 5 or so metres from the centre circle at one point, he must have got bored and trying to get a kick of the ball.

I see that all English Park games are now at Linfield according to the CU website. Obviously the relaying of pitch debacle has meant that.

Nah, it's the facilities - great ground, a bit like Kiwitea Street, with the bonus of a tinny house just over the back fence, you can't beat that.

Your AMI stadium ticket will be posted to you later this week, not sure what section they will be in. We will not get the 20K attending like last year.

Might have been a nice idea to put the Canty game on telly before the Phoenix seeing as all the cameras were there. Bit of promotion for the NZFC?

Or what about at least moving CU kick off time to 3pm? Most of the crowd turned up after 4pm - ie after CU game finished. An hour of Jason Gunn and co. was ridiculous - would far prefer to see kids playing SSGs. If warm up time is the issue, there are off-stadium warm up facilities, right?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

First 60-70 minutes, one team in it, Clapham in sublime touch, Otago chasing shadows, not doing much. Goal was a good hit on the turn, it was a 50/50 offside call but probably right decision.

But at about the 70-75th minute Otago flicked a switch, made some good passing plays, hit the post a couple of times, loked really good. Then Ruggles broke through, according to a mate, he was at least three metres offside, down the other end so can't comment, canty appeal to Best, flag stays down, scores. Captain (I think it was Terris) pissed of so takes it out on Besty, given two verbal warnings by ref before flag went up and very short chat between Best and ref Waldron saw Waldron go straight to the back pocket, see ya later. Minutes later Clapham went down injured and all atacking impetus left that pitch. Braithwaite was still gving it to Best and, he repeated the dose, flag up, Braithwaite sent to the stands. By now the small crowd is getting vocal and Otago on top. Long kick fron Highfield, with strong northerly at his back, flicked on by Retro Ricki Scholership winner LB Tristan Prattley to Knox who gets the ball trapped under his feet, takes more touches than Canty should have let him, before eventually burying it in the bottom right cormer. 2-1. Two to play. Fairly quiet last two, Braithwaite getting very animated form the stands. No more real chances, Game over.

Nice post, Otagofan. Confirms my impression of Best formed when I saw him refereeing a U14 Tournament in Dunedin about 6 years back. Complete twat.

Best needs a big pair of binoculars, the offside player was not even close to ONSIDE.

Terris lost the game for the Dragons when he won the toss and played with the wind in the first half. I stated at the time it was the wrong move and Otago would pile forward in the last 20mins if needing to.
Exactly what they did.

Kamo had a great chance to put us 2 up in second half but failed to keep his shot on the ground.

Yes was at the game. Don't spend a lot of time checking back on the site normally when I have a bit of a break while at work.

For Twenty minutes Otago looked like Canterbury B.
Flem made the better Subs on the day for sure,

Blanche. My opinion, Clapham should be playing in the middle behind Kamo. Canterbury would get better options in attack and better ball movement further up the pitch than at present, Arron is having to go across the park too when he gets the ball and teammates don't seem to be reading his pass.
Canterbury need to play the ball around a lot quicker than they have been doing, by slow build ups they are allowing the cover D to get across and double or triple the pressure on the ball.

Tony Smith has a good article in The Press today.
I don't think Tony wanted to get offside with the guys, but time for it to be reported as it should be, not gloss over the non performers.

Defence is about positioning and cover D as much as it's about speed over 100 mts.
What about playing last week with two front runners who both play the same style of game, it DOES not work. Play AC off the shoulder of a Stronger target man, but we don't have one of those in the squad.

I too was impressed by the number and size of the reporting in The Press of late. Great to have something to read in the sports section.
