Watched the Napier City Rovers vs Wellington Olympic game. Thought Olympic were great and thoroughly deserved their 4-0 win. Probably could have had another couple goals too to be honest.  They were just a step ahead of Napier all game.

Really liked the fact the game was streamed too courtesy of Cello Sport. Quite a good stream I thought and a great addition to the local game for people who aren't able to attend the fixtures in person.  Also a nice touch to have it commentated, although the commentary yesterday at times was very poor. Few comments made about the Referee's performance (who had a solid game) and then the comment at the end about Olympic and there people was unnecessary.  Not a great look for NCR as they supply the commentators not Cello.

It's definitely nice to have those streams and they're becoming more popular but yeah, sometimes the commentary is a bit ordinary.

I've found NZFs coverage excellent and a step up on last year, but also nice to see Cello doing some central games, while Chch United put together a good production for their home games too (and I think I saw Hamilton Wanderers did one?).

The Cello coverage is paid for by NCR.  We are dealing with the comments made by our volunteer commentator.

Hard to knock volunteer commentators when our countries paid ones are rubbish.
Also cello AI can be extremely crap - was not bad for the small part i saw of this game.

You forgot to mention that the volunteer commentator is the CEO of Central Football...

Oh wow. I didn't think much of the comment - bigger things to worry about. But any CEO who thought that was the right thing to say needs to have their judgement questioned.

You can’t seriously tell me someone has been offended by that?

it's not exactly offensive, but it is kinda suggesting that Olympic as a team are thugs and I guess therefore Greeks aren't exactly great people either. If it was aimed at a team that wasnt so strongly recognized as being part of a particular community from one part of the world then it probably wouldnt be an issue. Best not to have said anything really.

Agree, this is not appropriate for someone commentating. NCR/ CF should also make sure they are squeaky clean before they start making comments like that. Was watching NCR play a few weeks ago and the abuse that was coming from their supporters was appalling. They were actually directing the abuse at individual players in the opposition by name. Saying things that about them as people. The adage comes up. "It you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I just think anyone who proclaims themselves a "leader" ought to have their judgement checked for making that comment:

1. Surely you know you're going to get flack for it
2. Potentially burning bridges like that is totally stupid
3. Given that's his attitude on-air, then what is said off-air? Is appropriate of a leader of any organisation? How does that attitude rub off on other people in football?

So NZF doing a poll for what Chatham Cup quarterfinal will be streamed - because for whatever reason they can only stream one of them! Waiheke supporters got out in force and looking set to win the poll... so the only game that's gonna be streamed is the one with two teams in the same city where away supporters could easily travel anyway - classic!

you just need to listen to the comment and when it occurred. Comes just after a nasty foul by an olympic player and he throws out the comment "good team just may not be great people" - it's not that much a stretch to consider he's referring to the Greeks, given that is who traditionally play for the club.

I don’t even know if you are serious anymore. Gould shouted something to their bench. He is English. He was making an opinion on the players attitude generally.

Did we find out why the Eastern Suburbs player got a red card vs. Waiheke? The commentator on the livestream seemed confused. Rewinding I can only imagine that he cussed out the ref or something because otherwise it seemed unprovoked

His red card is record for "Offensive, insulting, abusive language and/or gestures towards an opponent or person other than a match official."

Auckland teams getting the luck of the draw once again (As per Kate Shepherd Cup). Must be some sort of karma for them missing national competition last season due to covid lock downs.

It was pretty obvious City was going to be at home with the Semi Final and Final of the OFC on the week before.

I travelled up to Wakefield Park for the Chatham Cup QF on the weekend. Not the result (or the weather) we were seeking, but the hospitality shown by Wellington Olympic was superb. Great people.

25% chance both Auckland sides at home.  If NZF were going to rig it, both Auckland sides would've been playing each other thus guaranteeing an Auckland team in the final and NZF could confirm the booking of North Harbour Stadium earlier!
