Whats going on with the grass at kiwitea? Looking quite worn on TV

anyone got a link to watch this game?

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Can these commentators please do their homework and at least learn the names of a few more players , and maybe even some background information? I am so tired of only hearing about Rogerson, McGarry and Singh . There are 8 other players in this team on the field !

Before the game it was mentioned by the coach that this was the first game on the "new turf"

Looked pretty second hand to me.  Either need a new groundsman or some education for him/her

Don't piss off old people - the older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent

Was a the game so can't comment on the TV presentation , but two comments :

1. Was a new pitch - from six feet away it looked okay although did notice a few divots.

2. Was the second time I have seen the Phoenix in Auckland. It's bloody hard to get a grip on who their players are, as the programme numbers bear no relation to the players. Sail , Rogerson ,McGarry, Singh and Mata are obvious - the others  you have no idea. Maybe the commentators had the same issue.

Don't know what it looked like on TV but the Phoenix didn't look like scoring , and Auckland City could / should have had 5 or 6.

Was apparently a new pitch, but I was there and I thought it looked rubbish.

Couple of wrong numbers today with a few away with NZ U17s, but usually they're bang on.

Felt for the Nix, with no senior squaddies, despite it being three days since the last Nix game and a week until the next.

Much improved in the second half, but Auckland could have won 5 or 6-0, like chubbs said, with no complaints.

Nix play Beijing on Tuesday, so that'll be why there were no senior players there

So is it correct that Auckland have their catch up game this Wednesday against Hamilton (in Hamilton) on Wednesday before they play them again on Sunday in Auckland on tv?

Yes

Yes Yakcall, Wednesday 5.30pm at Porritt, Sunday 4.35pm at Kiwitea Street.

It is a completely new playing surface at Kiwitea Street, with a different type of grass - couch grass - having been employed.

For those familiar with Fencibles United's Riverhills Park and/or Papatoetoe's Murdoch Park, it's the same grass which is used on those pitches.

Attached is a pic of Junior Ferns international Liz Anton in action on Murdoch Park from last season - couch grass has been on that pitch for at least three years now, so this is what the Kiwitea Street surface will eventually look like.

Cheers,

JR

Ok, I thought it was but is funny how the game ends up being a back to back against the same oppostion.

Well Riverhills has ended up as a complete disaster. Gone from a great playing surface to a bumpy mess so hopefully doesn't happen at Kiwitea St

So with 3 rounds left 4 points cover the top 6

games left (for teams still likely to make playoffs)

Team Wellington (27pts) - Southern (a), Tasman (h), Canterbury (a)

Eastern Suburbs (27pts) - Tasman (a), Canterbury (h), Auckland City (a)

Waitakere United (25pts) - Canterbury (a), Auckland City (h), Weenix (a - although its in Auckland)

Auckland City (24pts) - Hamilton (a), Hamilton (h), Southern (h), Waitakere (a), Eastern Suburbs (h)

Canterbury United (24pts) - Waitakere (h), Eastern Suburbs (a), Team Wellington (h)

Hawke's Bay United (23pts) - Weenix (a), Southern (h), Hamilton (h)

I reckon the top 4 will end up

Auckland City with 35 pts

Team Wellington with 34pts

Eastern Suburbs with 34pts (no idea which way round they would go due to weird NZF rules)

Hawke's Bay United with 31pts

Waitakere (30pts) & Canterbury (26pts) to miss out

Exciting finish coming up.

Side point. HBU can't get to 31 points. Either 32, 29, or 30.

typo meant 32 - they have the easiest run in and should win all 3 of their remaining games

I don't really think this is a big issue?  I mean they could easily not load the highlights onto youtube and make you subscribe to see them so anything they do load is a bonus no?

From memory there wasn't youtube highlights last year (not 100% on this) but this season the highlights, the weekly show and the production value has been better than year one so I'm excited to see what happens next season.

No one is saying its a big issue, I just think what he was saying is he would like them in a better quality if sky did have them in a better quality. I'm sure they would upload them on You Tube as HD but as you mention only having one camera that is unlikely.

This... not a huge moan, just saying how typically 2010 of Sky it is to purposely not upload their best quality.

They need to work out how to get the highlights show up as soon as possible, and the NZ Football Weekly can be a mid-week show. Can't help but think NZ Football Weekly would be a hundred times better with proper analysis looking back on all the games and issues from the week, not just some very bare bones interviews with a player from both sides.

totally agree, much preferred last year when the football weekly show was on a Monday night with the highlights. That was a must watch for me every week, this year I think I've caught the football weekly once.

Is it close because teams have improved or is it close because the comp has become dilluted?

Permalink Permalink

I feel like it has improved. Its no longer just the 1 - 2 horse race even if Team Wellington and Auckland still seem to be the benchmark

maybe a bit of both. third Auckland team has helped dilute acfc dominate for players. And Waitakere aren't the shambles they have been in recent years.

Auckland city were an absolute disgrace today they seem to think that every decision that goes against them is wrong nothing but arrogance, Tade is the the worst followed by Riera and Berlanga. Travano should get three weeks for the off the ball attack.Kerr is not the best of Refs but he got it right today. You can blame whoever you like but the management needs to take control even the mighty God father. As for White the club should fine him for his dumb tackle.
