lol, he couldn't score in a brothel at the Knights, and Ricki was in a position to sign him before, so I don't imagine any change to the status quo now

Poor lad was meant to be a replacement for Grant Holt (now at Norwich? the clubs record signing), but he had a bad game or 2 and has been riding pine (if he's lucky) for the season. Seems to be a regular on the bench lately which is better than nothing I guess.

Talking to my mate who's over there at present there was talk of him heading off to a conference club on loan (Oxford has been a regular for shrews players lately) but that obviously fell through.

The current manager isn't exactly appreciated and I'd say this doesn't help Bright when it comes to the fans

Paul Simpson has numerous concerns to contend with ahead of Shrewsbury`s home encounter against Lincoln.

Shrews, six points adrift of the top seven, go into the clash needing all three points to keep alive any faint hopes of gatecrashing the play-off places. Lincoln meanwhile find themselves on the fringes of a relegation battle but victory could see them safe this weekend.

Town midfielder Benjamin Van den Broek is nursing a tight hamstring after an impressive contribution as a 61st-minute substitute in the goalless draw against Cheltenham on Tuesday and his fitness will be monitored over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a sickness bug has hit the club this week affecting several players including striker Dave Hibbert and defender Kelvin Langmead and Simpson will again check on the players concerned as late as possible.

Captain Graham Coughlan (thigh), midfielder Craig Disley (ankle) and Jake Robinson (ligament damage) are all still in recovery but could be back in full training by the end of the month.

Striker Kris Bright grabbed a brace to help Town`s reserves to a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in midweek and he will be pushing for involvement along with youngster Tom Bradshaw, while Steve Leslie is also hoping for a start having come off the bench of late.

Fellow forward Nathan Elder will return to the club on April 24 when his loan spell at AFC Wimbledon comes to an end.

New Zealander Kris Bright scored his first goal of the season for Shrewsbury for a much wanted victory and a much wanted goal in a 1-0 win over Lincoln.

It was Town's first home goal for eight hours and three minutes.

Steven Leslie's centre was turned in from close-range by Bright seven minutes from time - seven minutes away from setting a 124-year-old club record of five goalless home games.

Simmo Post Lincoln City wrote:

It took until late in the second half for Town to turn their chances into goals when Kris Bright slotted the ball home.It was testimony to Bright's perseverance and determination over the season to finally get his Town account off the mark: "Recently he's been working extremely hard and in the week he got a couple of goals in the reserves.

"In all fairness to him he shouldn't have played in the week as he felt ill but because we had others dropping out he said he'd give it a go, and that is credit to him.

"He has waited a long time for that and has had a very frustrating time but I would imagine that will be a big weight off his shoulders and hopefully there will be more to come from him.

"The goal showed an instinct, he was in the right area and we got the win."

Its about time. Good on him

I disagree:  coaches usually want to bring 5 strickers with them at WC. Actually I think for the last spot it woud be between Barbarouses and Bright. So if Bright plays well in the 3 last games, he has a chance to be chosen with the AWs

thats the problem abris, talking to people who have been watching him all season he's been far from exceptional (only in reserve games has he shone) and I'm thinking it may be too little too late.

The four strikers are easy picking

Killen
Fallon
Smeltz
Wood

Plus Jeremy Brockie can cover there if needed, and I imagine he should make the squad.

No way Bright should go.   If we need a 5th striker I would much rather take Costa over Bright, surely the 4 would be enough though, right?

Jeremy should counted as a covering midfielder if anything and not a striker. Costa may have a very good inside running because he can present speed and impact off the bench.

Hopefully in the next three games Kris will have complete games and press a reasonable case, even though it is a bit late in the piece. It's not impossible to press hard and make a statement. He's not off the radar because we only have so much players overseas to consider.

Just looking at his career stats on the ever reliable Wikipedia. Judging by these it looks like he should have stayed in Norway and he mightve got signed by a better team in the top division in that country. 21 goals in 19 games for some Div2 side in Norway.

Might give him a chance for more game time...if he doesnt get the flick.

May also see Rory Fallon follow him back to the shrews   (wishful thinking) gings2010-05-02 01:11:47

I'll tell you now, Bright won't go.
We already have four top strikers, plus Brockie who is fit and could cover upfront if he needs.

Well done to Kris Bright. I'm prepared to eat humble pie if he continues the way he did today. His finishing was not great but all round play was a revelation compared to what he's shown previously. It was the first time for me he's looked like a pro-footballer.

Taken from one of the shrews fans message boards after the morecambe game. A few have said his link up play was good and was man of the match in their opinion

2 Shrews strikers probably on the move if the papers are right. Dave Hibbert is being linked with everyone (well, peterborough, Dag & Red and Burton), While Tom Bradshaw is being watched by West Ham.

Good for Kris if they go as it may give him a chance. Not so good as odds are money will be spent big time in the striking department

A start and a goal.
"Kris Bright finds the net with a goal from just outside the area to the bottom left corner of the goal. Port Vale 0-1 Shrewsbury".

Full 90 for bright in a 1-1 draw and second goal in less than a month. I have a feeling that he is gonna be chosen by Herbert on Monday to be the 5th striker:

However, he may be lucky enough to secure more game time next year with his performances of late.

Whilst not a fan, I hope he kicks on next season and gets noticed by a better club in League One or first division in a country like Belgium

He's not on Shrewsbury's official release list either, so the club obviously has plans for him next season. Sounds like he's started to make an impact towards the end of the season which can only be a good thing.
