Any word on fixture releases? We're inching closer to the start date

Been a lot of issues sorting out flights - when Tech play one away game in Wellington they have to fly out via Palmerston North, and when Napier CR play Coastal in Chch they fly in on the Saturday afternoon and stay the night before the game on Sun.

SHOULD be out this week. I believe they've finalised the draw now.

That is poor on NZF in true and they need to learn how to negotiate better with Air NZ or have a word with Air Chathams

NZRFU charters from Air Chathams for the NPC.

For the National League, NZF should have a mock draw in place March 1 with N1,N2,N3,N4,C1,C2,C3,C4,S1,S2 and several chunks of flights booked that can then be freed up once you know that teams from Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, Nelson, Otago can't qualify.

Yeah but that would required a level of organisation and prior though!

I was talking with a fellow Western Springs player who does admin for the club and she was talking about the elaborate arrangements they had to make with travel agents to ensure that the team could get to Kate Sheppard Cup fixtures. Like, having to book 20 seats on refundable tickets months in advance

Why are Olympic playing at Martin Luckie Park rather than Wakefield?

Coastal Spirit to play their first National League match against Wellington Olympic at rivals Ferrymead Bays' home, due to Linfield Park being booked out and unable to move dates.

Also heard that Cashmere Technical were offered to play their home matches at Linfield Park due to them not wanting to pay a truck ton on playing at Nga Puna Wai, including the game against Coastal. Seems like they didn't go for the offer.

I can appreciate that. Why would you want to play a home game at your opponents' ground?

We play our home games on Sunday and booked them out accordingly. Due to the rugby test in Wellington, there weren't enough flights either in or out so we have to play on Saturday, which caused a clash with Pride youth and senior at English Park so we were really stuck on any alternative. This was the best of a bad situation but Bays have been very accomodating and we're thankful.

The concept of keeping as little traffic through Wellington Airport on a rugby test weekend was probably a good idea as mentioned a few posts back.

Looking at the draw I see Cashmere Technical are playing at Nga Puna Wai, not all of them with the rest at English Park. I think the reason that all the games are not being played at Nga Puna Wai is nothing to do with costs but more to do with venue not being available due to be being used as the training venue for both the Kiwi's and Kangaroo's for the upcoming Rugby League Test(s) in Christchurch in mid-October.

Maybe some embellishment there, there is 6 weeks between KS cup QF and SF.  Not sure why you would use a travel agent over the dedicated Air NZ Group booking team.

Martin Luckie was upgraded for the WWC and the players prefer to play on grass.
I have horrible opinions

Possibly easier to broadcast games from as well? Not too sure how many of those Central League matches on the turfs were shown on Fifa+
All the National League games are being streamed

Yep, no Wellington Olympic home matches from the Central League were shown on Fifa+, Petone (artificial turf) and NCR home matches were the only ones streamed. Olympic did stream their matches themselves though

The less National League matches played on artificial surfaces the better in my opinion

Auckland United have announced a few National League departures after missing out on qualification. Kurtis Mogg and Ben Wallace are off to Western Springs, Yuki Aizu and Nathan Garrow to Auckland City and Dan Atkinson to Eastern Suburbs.

Because in the Kate Sheppard Cup the Air NZ booking team only get involved for the final, all transport before then is up to the away team to organise

From the Napier City Rovers preview above
"Oscar Faulds was the main man and unless something crazy happens he won’t be available, leaving a big hole in their formation."
He's back

I'm glad he's back (although obviously gutted for him and the circumstances that have caused it), should make NCR a bit more of a threat during this National League campaign

Wonder if the Nix will relook at him?
Kiwi and offers that big man 'Plan B' option they lack.

Guess it all depends how he goes in the National League, and how the Nix look a few games into the ALM season. Luke Supyk doesn't appear to have done too much this Central League season.

It always takes time for amateur domestic players to get up to A League fitness levels, but your Plan B striker is really there to come off the bench for 10-30 mins, so they could build their fitness up over the summer.

As someone else posted Myer Bevan maybe another local option.

I'll be interested to see how he goes in NL.
15 of this league goals were against teams were in the bottom half of the table. 4 more were in the 2 games against WP (5th), 1 was in the 1 game against Miramar (4th), 1 was in the 1 game against Wests (2nd), and zero were in the 2 games against Olympic.

Utsikten did him something dirty. He was pissed about that.  Ridiculous to go through all it all, do the photos and then to be told at the last minute that they won't pay the training compensation (apparently he'd been a pro with clubs in Sweden prior - I don't know every rule around it and all that, but he was very dark on it all).

They then turned around and said they'd be happy to sign him in the next window - Just to complete the backhanded slap to the face. I am of course a bit biased though. Great lad, but dealt a terribly shark hand.

Anyway, WeeNix will get a bit of a boost from some of the first team squad dropping down this opening weekend in the NL - Ball, Piper, GSR & Supyk all lined up to get varying degrees of minutes in the legs against Eastern Suburbs. Should even up the contest a little bit. 🫣
