Can also see this being a big deal for the OFC Pro League. 

Similar timezone and arguably more vulnerable players due to relative wealth discrepancies of the nations involved.

Of course, FIFA can be trusted to safeguard the sport from corruption so we have nothing to worry about... right?

From what I've heard, at the time NZ's domestic matches are being played, there is literally no other football being played anywhere else in the world for these betting markets.

This opens the competition up to a whole host of markets - predominantly Asian - to offer odds on our games.

I did this briefly in university - an insane level of responsibility on a single person with lots of opportunities to game the system. I think occasionally they had two of us at games, but not always.

My hunch is that no one has any idea how deep all of this is. There's a total lack of systems in place, from NZF, to regulators, even to the Police. There's gonna be a few Clayton Lewis' out there. Christ, plenty of players betting on their own games.

And it doesn't have to be as sinister as match fixing, but rather yellow cards, etc.

This still happens at Southern League matches too. Although you can’t bet on it in NZ you can still do so overseas hence they need people pitch side to update.

I’ve watched someone do this one day it’s quite interesting how they do it.

Lack has just turned 21, and first trialled from memory 12 months ago with Auckland. Unfortunately he picked up at injury.

Exactly the type of young talented domestic based kid, you would hope gets a first pro chance in this new OFC league.

And yeah, there's attempted match fixing.

The dilemma is similar to that we used to face with tobacco sponsorship. There's a pretty decent money flow but at what social cost?

It's nothing like that. What money flow? The overseas betting is not financially benefitting NZ football at all is it?

Not quite true. NZF try and get contractual arrangements with overseas betting agencies. I’m not sure they actually do anything for them for it so it is a hard sell - but the $ help fund the league (that’s my memory of a NL club exec meeting anyway)

there is some connection with a betting agency overseas helping pay the costs for NZF to stream to FIFA+ from memory.

Interesting and good on NZF for at least trying to monetise some of the reported $200 million in betting spent on the league. But will always be very difficult to grab any significant slice

I think centre-back Alex Irwin and midfielder Isaac Bates (both from Eastern Suburbs) have joined Birkenhead - I believe it was them playing against AFC last week, if I recognised correctly.

Auckland United have signed centre-backs Jaylen Rodwell (from an Aus NPL team) and Taine Bracken (from Hibiscus Coast).

As well as Sam Lack, AFC Reserves have signed midfielder Van Fitzharris from Tauranga and forward Aston Burns from Fencibles.

Christchurch United have picked up Bray Whitecliffe (Petone) and Morgan Wellsbury (Tauranga) as U20s.
Noah Karunaratne (Eastern Suburbs) is also a replacement for Ashnarvy Mustapha who has signed professionally in Cambodia

Young Wellsbury could be one to watch. Big unit. Must have been on Greeny's wider squad radar for Chile.

Shared Northern Region League Golden Boot (14 goals each) with American Michael Suski (Birkenhead United) and Tade (Auckland United).

Be a few hungry young guys trying to score a gig at CU for the OFC Pro League.

Birkenhead have announced Morgan Wellsbury in their squad for the national league. 

Yusi Van Dam and Nick Petherick have signed for Coastal. (Maybe Matt Tod Smith too although not fit yet).

Birkenhead have also signed goalkeeper Jackson Gardner.

You'd think Auckland City would be looking around too after what happened to them on the final day. 

Unsure about all of the CL teams.

Coastal Spirit is excited to announce that the Northern Region Football League's MVP for 2025, Derek Tieku,  has signed for us for the National League campaign. 
Derek comes to us from Bay Olympic, where he scored 9 goals this season in a very competitive league. He has plenty of big game experience having played for Hamilton Wanderers, Eastern Suburbs and Auckland City.
We welcome him to the Coastal Spirit whānau and look forward to seeing him on the park!

Derek comes in due to their top scorer and MVP from the Southern League - Riku Ichimura scoring a pro contract.

Miramar were miles better although Auckland had a good spell second half. 

Bit tough for the two Ressies teams with players away at Under 20 WC. Although they don’t have to qualify in so does anyone really care!

Never been a fan whatsoever. If we are/have rated this guy as a half decent player at anything above NL, it says a lot about our standard.. Good NL player but nothing more, hence never kicked on
