I really hope those games are on FIFA+ on demand as k/o times are pretty rubbish for those of us in Europe!
Supporter world's best and worst football teams: Waikato/WaiBop, Kingz, Knights, Phoenix, The Argyle, The Whites & the All Whites

They should all be available live and on demand everywhere.

How’s North Harbour stadium since the baseball refit?

Lol had in my head that it might be like the 7s a bit with several games a day. Wasn’t doing simple maths in my head properly…

Bula fc vs Vanuatu Utd kicks off in an hour so might as get last minute predictions in. Can't give a score line yet since these are new squads but I'm picking Bula fc to pick up the win
17 Jan 01:15
Lame that there's no betting odds, would make it a bit more interesting to watch the oceania teams play if I could put a punt on. They have the Myanmar league but not a new pro league with local interest

Football has been pretty meh so far. I guess I expected a lot more attacking flair, lots of transitional action, but mostly been bogged down in the midfield. Probably to be expected for teams playing their first game together. Krishna scored which was to be expected, but has otherwise not really had much to do. Auvray the Trinidad and Tobago international (and son of the Bula FC coach) looks the most exciting player on the field but its a low bar at the moment.

NZ contingent not really doing anything of note.

If the nix keeper conceded a goal like that final one I'd rage quit phoenix games. Terrible.
17 Jan 04:07 · edited 17 Jan 04:08 · History
Ends 2 - 2 thanks to a goalkeeping howler in the dying seconds. I'd expect to see Foord in goal for Bula FC next game. Hope my second team (South Island United) can play some more attractive football in a couple of hours time.
17 Jan 04:37
Gotta start somewhere I guess! For NZ pro football it was the Kingz then the Knights…

17 Jan 04:44
Yeah if it’s not until about week 4-5 of the ALM season when the football starts to look really fluent, imagine a comp with lower quality players, zero pre season games and many team mates who are basically strangers to each other

Hopefully the quality improves by 2nd and 3rd hubs, but there could be some pretty average games in Auckland esp with lots of player rotation with 3 games in a week
17 Jan 04:56
While some of the football was a tough watch - Very transitional, lots of wayward passes etc, I really enjoyed Kaile Auvray's performance.

Krishna was class too. He's still got it! Credit to Vanuatu too, after a pretty tumultuous build up, it would have been easy to let their heads drop, but it was a determined and ground out result for them. Well done.

Don't have a number but I'd say it was about 80% Fijian. At a guess about 6000.

This "opening ceremony" is making me want AFC to absorb OFC.

Nice to see South Island United choosing a Kiwi captain 🤙

if you wanted proof that the default attitude in these forums is unecessarily negative, then say hello to some of these posts

one game, and quite a good one at that, and lots of conclusions drawn already.

give it time.

Used to be Euro snobs

Now A league snobs 😂

Auckland will rise once more

17 Jan 06:19
ha ha, yes. the small fish has found a smaller fish to pick on.

i've always maintained that you can get good football, no matter what the technical standard is. for example, the NZFC for the most part was very watchable.

Reg! Was that aimed at my post, because it was basically the only one during the actual game and I don't think I could ever be accused of being negative or being a snob of a particular level. Honestly the earlier game was a bit shark, both teams were either rusty or overly tentative. So far there has been a lot more to watch in the AFC vs SIU game.
17 Jan 06:27
In fairness I did flick over at 6:45 and gave it 10 mins. WTF was with the butterflys (?) and all that waste of time. Just kick off the game. Now back watching Jets at WSW.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

no mate! i'd never call out reasoned observations. my issue is with unecessary negativity.

Watching Kosta is normally worthwhile but maybe not this year for WSW. This is me personally.

First impressions, AFC are the better team.

Gillion does look that bit more classy then the rest. Saying that Norman and Drake look decent midfielders who potentially could do a job at A league level.

The ref has a real 'fudge around and find out' demeanor.

I, for one, would not like to find out.

i really rate drake. pretty sure he trialled / trained with AFC last season?

Gillion seems too good for this league. I feel like he'd suit the Nix as we lack speedy, technical, exciting players and he would at least be good off the bench. Isn't he from Wellington?

Faulds a bit disappointing despite scoring and haven't noticed Van Hattum do much sadly.
