Other teams have the odd player that might make a squad but thats about it at the moment. Players like Morgan Day, Coldicott etc who do have some potential need to go to Tech or Cavy if they want to improve by training with better players week in and week out and being pushed to make starting lineups.

That plan has certainly worked for James Govan.

It is gearing up to be a huge game in the Southern Premier league this weekend with reigning champs Caversham taking on minnows Dunedin Technical.  The game is quickly being named as the "real chatham cup final."

Technical are three points clear of Caversham, however Caversham have got a game in hand.  Technical had the opportunity to win the league last weekend but got beaten by a 12 manned Caversham side, with ref Jeff Clamp running the show in the middle for the red and white machine.

This weekend however, will hopefully be a different story for the Technical lads.  Technical are apparently looking to change things up as the star of the squad (Cambell "Mr. Soccer" Parkin) has said he wants to be more involved in the build up.

Campbell - also known to many as "mr soccer" or "the kaiser" has owned many a striker this year, although he has stated rather clearly in the press that he needs more of the ball for his team to win.  in an interview earlier this year kaiser said to me in an interview that "I am obviously the best defender in the league - let alone the best player.  Why they just dont give me the ball more is baffeling!"

So the question this weekend will be:  Will the Kaiser get what he wants or will Caversham have their way with Tech for the 2nd game on the trot.

All the best to both teams and if you are reading this Kaiser - take it to them!

wrong, if they can sign about 6-7 quality players, move from mosgiel to someplace else more desirable and start playing decent football. Don't see it happening

Caversham 2-0 Tech. Cavvy are just a better team than them at this time in the season. cavvy win and wrap up the league next week against roslyn

Caversham deserve the league they are the best in Otago, I think theres plenty of potential for Otago United to be a winning team this year, and shouldv'e been for past two years. Cavy and Dn Tech are two of the best clubs in the country and have been for a couple of years.

I agree with thegaffa theres plenty of talent in the Soccersouth league,no reason why  Otago utd shouldn't be top half. Expectations should be higher than avoiding wooden spoon, they are far better than that.

3-0, 3-0, 1-0

There was a slight derailment to the caversham train earlier in the year but as you can see normal service has been resumed.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the journey, CHOO CHOO!!!!!!!

A look at the season.

Witnessed the downfall of Roslyn Wakari...embarrassing
Cavvy train keeps on chugging away, quality outfit near the business end of the season
Tech so close yet so far...problem is when the pressure is on they CHOKE
Cant believe how Grants Braes starting line up are all cast members from the hills have eyes
The turn around of G.I? ...not really
Mosgiel...one game there hot the next there not. never knew what you were going to get from them

Teams below the top 4 are to just make up numbers.

Brand is sloth!

rebuilding year for rosyln, enough said. To be fair cavy are a quality side but roslyn hate cavy more than tech, can garuntee roslyn boys will be up for it, they are due for a win vs the cavywanks. I'm picking roslyn 2 cavy 1, giving the league to tech. Cavy most hated club in dunedin end of. horseshead212009-08-14 12:54:34

Things have gone really quiet on this site since caversham won the league, just shows which club has the most members...

Nice piece in the ODT today about the big end of season competition, alot more than the champions got last week.

Must be very pleasing to be back in goalscoring form and taking the piss out of Northern after a QUIET 2 weeks against caversham.

Champions once again, SORRY about us!!!!!!!!

fair enough cavy well done yet another trophy, when you gonna win the chatham cup? Can't be far away, as much as it pains me to admit it the best side in dunedin over the 5 year period I played hands down

I think the FootballSouth Premier league is going backward's in it's current format, I think top four have it to easy. It's about time they reduced the number of teams and maybe bring relogation into it. In my opinion It would make the league more interesting as you would see more upsets and a much tighter league. Relogaton would also make bottom of table clashes just as important as top of table clashes.

I agree with most of that however I can't understand how the top 4 have it too easy. For one they have to play (reasonably) tough games each week (once the league is split) and as they say the cream always rises to the top. It is making the top teams much stronger and competitive and you witnessed that with Chatham cup runs and you will see it (again) when there is an all Dunedin South Island Final.

Mike I understand you dismay at the coverage granted to a team that has just beaten a terrible Northern side 9 nil in a post league nothing tournament to that it allocated to Cavershams 10th title in 11 years. What is going on here? I know we all must be sick of them winning it but come on, credit where credit is due - they're class.

I agree to a certain extent, it might benefit the top 4 but what about the rest. They have nothing to play for after the 1st round .I can't say Ive ever seen a league format like the Footballsouth League. I think Footballsouth should follow what Mainland have done with  league. Eight teams and relegation.

So as predicted another all Otago South Island Final - Tell me again why we seem to bend over backwards for Caterbury Football when we are obviously far superior - they should be the ones pushing for a South Island league because obviously the standard up there is average.

So for the 2nd year running 2 Dunedin teams in the final!!
Congratulations to Cavy and Tech, im  looking  forward to watching another clash between the 2 south island heavyweights, Excellent for Otago soccer.
