Miramar's Matt Calcott appointed as coach officially today confirming the worst kept secret in Wellington football.

Word on the street is that Mike Eagar will be back in TW colours for this season, which would be very handy indeed.  I also hear he's been working on his tan hard in Queensland.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I wonder if Matty C will go with a Wellington based team rather than Auckland rejects

Team Wellington in conjunction with Scots College is running some Summer 5 A-side Football Leagues.
Initial details can be found at the link above.

Any idea of a squad Gilly? I'm thinking Matty C may need to look for a striker from out of town? Emi Tade the best striker in town?

Watched a bit of TW trial game at Wakefield the other night.  Calcott being very thorough with the wide range of players he's looking at.

George Barbarouses setting the standard - best player on pitch.  Mikey Halikias gets special mention for the best bobsled.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Another trial earlier tonight. Anyone go along? How are the locals looking? Any players from out of town? I know of one lad from the states.

I can't confirm or otherwise, but that would be an amazing coup for Calcott. Surely they have signed for Waitakere not TW. Lucas is living in Auckland and has a very strong association with Waitakere - I can't see him leaving. I know Galbraith is with LH, but he is a Westie and living back therre I understand. Hobson-McVeigh lives on the North Shore -both he and Galbraith have been involved with the Waitakere NYL teams for a few years now. And Branch is at Uni in Auckland and more than likely would prefer to play his football for an Auckland team rather than Waikato again. Or am I missing something and is Ricki lining them all up for the Nix!!?Toffeeman662011-09-20 11:30:02

Well there we have it. Each squad must have at least four u-20 players - or so I understand - and those four ain't bad!

Rafa Christians, Calcott's assistant for the '11/'12 season, has brought a player or two from overseas for trials. Unsure how they've gone though.

I would expect Max Weston to be signed though. American lad, played for WU at the back end of the winter season.

Do these trials cover the selection of players for the Youth team?  Or do they trial/get selected separately?  Anyone know how that process is going/who's in the frame/when the Youth squad will be announced?

TW can't match the money of ACFC or Waitak but most likely feild a strong team and compete.

I'm a relatively new fan of football, so forgive my ignorance. When people say ACFC and Waitak have the money, do they pay players or offer some financial reward? I thought it was amateur? or is it just because two clubs have cash to better support all aspects of the team - and are therefore  more attractive for players.

My belief is they find well priced accomodation(Free) and good paying jobs for the players. (little w big $) No direct payment of players.
