Doesn't work like that really.

In any case I am told that NZF have "waived" the stand down for Imray.

I find it quite interesting, from a nerdy rules perspective, that it is possible waive the stand down period.  If that is possible, why is a Nix Reserve team in the ASB Premiership not also possible?

But I digress.

Good news for TW, and (presumably) for Lower Hutt U19s.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

They didn't waive it as such, they got agreement from all franchises not to enforce it. Common sense prevailed in this instance.

Have heard there are to be a couple of good signings in the very near future. Who is left around NZ that would be considered a "good signing"?

Well even if Vader doesn't like him I still think Parkin would be a good signing. Looking around from last years comp there are quite a few players who have dropped off the map from Waikato FC. Strom and Manko are both good enough for TW I reckon; maybe Nick Branch gave Calcott the heads up on them. Waikato's Barlow and Margetts are good value too..but they have gone to HBU.

I've found this link quite useful for keeping an eye on NZ player movement:

I think that's all of them now - they are all either playing in the A-League, NL here, at College in the US or in UK/Europe.Toffeeman662011-10-20 10:35:58

I hear TW has a new kit this year which is following a certain trend.

I'm liking the TW squad this year!  Also brings a swag of NZ U20 players closer to Ricki Sherbert's eyes.

I predict the top four to be:
Espaol
The Bay
Teedubs
Westies
The rest to be something like:
Dragons
Wakachingchang
Scarfies
Green Machine

Ed. All in all though I think the top half of the league will be better quality this year with the bottom 3/4 getting the odd footballing lesson and fighting over the scraps along the way.

Why are they still playing at Miramar? I would gladly go up to Newtown Park to watch them but cannot be arsed going away to Miramar for games. Will they play any at Newtown?

The only thing Newtown Park has over Davey F is easy of access.

Otherwise Davey F is superior in all respects for watching football.

We have to stop agreeing about things. It really can't continue. Some of my friends here have stopped speaking to me.

I am keen to understand how 4 rows of rotting timber exposed to all elements is far superior to a completely covered stand that can hold 5 times that capacity, and an elevated grass bank on the entire opposite side for watching football?

How exactly does Davey F come close to that?

Yep that's a fair point, so despite your sarcastic tone and "lol" face I'll give you a reasonable answer.

On a sunny day, Davey F is great. And you're close to the game. The seating is no different to the timber seating in the stand at Newtown Park.

On a sunny day, Newtown Park's stand is still freezing, so you have to sit on the brick steps on the other side to be warm, and then you face north so you're looking into the sun, and you have a fifteen minute walk to the bar.

Wherever you sit, you're separated from the game by the running track.

Also, the tiny crowds that TW gets are a bit lost in the cavernous Newtown Park stadium.

Obviously Newtown offers a roof, which Davey F doesn't, but nobody goes to TeeDubs games in the rain anyway.

The changing rooms and facilities at Newtown are a step up too, although that's of no matter to fans.

Fair points, and I appreciate your response despite my sarcastic tone.  I challenge the seating statement though, I will have you know that since the RWC took the ground away from WU in July, they have magically received a fresh lick of paint.

Definately worth the sacrifice of 2 mths of home games, well shiney.

You would have had me on the ropes if you had mentioned back rests.

Real challenge for my posture at Davey F with nothing to lean back on.

It's also much too far to the nearest cafe at Davey.

It is nice being close to the action tho.

Would be awesome if Newtown got some bench seating on the southern bank.
