I believe that fiasco was not as one-way as your source may suggest.
My 2 sources were both on the management team of that U20 squad. Not to deny what you are saying could well be correct but I am intrigued to learn more.

Yeah let's destroy the boy's character and future football career with rumor and innuendo and ignore the fact he's technically very good and can actually play the game. Tall poppy anyone?

Your first post I see... Wonder if you know him somehow.

I ask you, if he was that good, why did Ricki not sign him cause surely if the two guys I know in the U20 management are wrong, Ricki would have seen right through any agenda - right? With all the hype he has gotten, surely he would destroy Fenton in terms of ability. Say, how has this Premiership season gone for him - nowhere? Hmmm... Yup, talent to burn.

I don't need to destroy his character. It seems he did enough dumb shit to let others speak about it on his behalf. Best you take that up with your client

What I've heard is that there were personalities running that U20 set-up who went out of their way to make him unwelcome in the team. And I tend to give credence to that view as I haven't heard of Chettleburgh being painted in the same way at any of the other teams he's been with (including here in Wellington).
As for his performance on the field this season, he's been a bit hit and miss for TeeDubs - like him in a central attacking midfield position in the ASB Prem, his best games this season were in that position this season, but I think he'd need to work on a couple of technical things and also his strength if he were to transition to A-league level. Don't think he's very effective out wide.

Wow, is the game on repeat or something?!?

Pretty much. A draw would probably have been a fair result, but it's not as though Auckland weren't deserving of the win. The penalty decision looked incredibly dubious from the media box, will need to have another look at it on the highlights.

Not sure about that. Auckland hit the post 3? times, Wellington put on a good showing.

My double negative (bad Patrick!) says that Auckland WERE deserving of the win.

Me too. It was just a shame to concede a late goal again, would have been great for the confidence of the team to have taken a point after what happened on Wednesday.

Yeah, I'm okay with the decision now that I've seen it again.

i dunno cuz i think the good tackle down low which clearly wins ball kinda puts the Auck city guy right in the other Welly guys path.

Personally i think that the welly guy had nowhere to go after that and the Auck city guy made a meal of it.

Just watched the highlights. With TV Footage that Auckland City #10 should be banned for a week! Appalling dive and faking of injury!

Peter O'Leary is a poor poor official week n week out, it amazes me how he gets a-league games.

He is one of the better A-League refs.

I'm generally NOT an O'Leary fan but I thought he was OK  for this game.He tried to let the game flow and played advantage as best he could . Was given gobfuls both by Whalen and Vicelich ; had to tell both of them to shut up at various times. When Jr and I were on the way home and talking about the game , we didn't once mention the reffing.Good sign for us.

Not a pen from that angle but would've liked to see it from side on, could tell a different story.

Fuck this stupid game

We need some ball kids at Davey F for a 1pm kick off. Complimentary Phoenix ticket for tomorrows game and an ASB Premiership football to those who can help out. Good chance to have a kick about on the best football surface in Wellington at halftime.
