Good game I thought - started with 3 at the back if I'm not mistaken (Gulley, Wood, Schrijevers [sp]) and played quite well, hitting the post twice.

Stunner from Ilich who chipped the keeper from about 40 meters, also Nati scored with a thunderbolt from outside the box.

No sign of Roy Kayara - is he still involved?

Watson had a good game too.  Henry Cameron showed some glimpses and good pace but wasn't a standout.  He and Panzer threw handbags at some point which was quite fun to watch.

So is Tom Jackson back? His name was in the match programme.

Finally, ginger ninja came on and showed some great touches - he's definitely a good addition, although Ilich and Barcia are playing well and will be hard to displace.

Pretty much dominated the game from start to finish. They'll be disapointed to conceed a sloppy goal from along throw. Illich's goals is here. Not the best footage but he's on half way and managed to hit the back of the net on the full. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/domestic/10...

Actually thought Watson was pants today. His touch and lack of passing really lets him down. JHS had a field day down the right hand side.

Nice to know Erik hasn't changed from when he was a teenager.

Watson was pants. And JHS crosses were up there with Fenton. Nate the stand out for me. Really need to be creating and finishing more chances against teams like that.

Yeah, Watto was dreadful. He really benefits from playing for one of the best teams in the league in terms of his goal-scoring stats, but he's far from a difference maker for the team. Nati was very good yesterday, he just needs to be a bit more consistent over the course of a season, and not have games where he goes missing.

Will be interesting to see how Jose integrates Clapham in the team. I didn't think he exactly shined when he came on, although he was unlucky not to score, his shot was goal-bound but a Southern player made a great clearance off the line.

That other coach was annoying as hell, try to micro manage every move of his players, I wonder if they listen. Is the guy who got red carded 5 times last year?

Don't think Angell needs any help fuelling that particular fire

Hopefully not match of the day fever, but I think Andy Bevin is one of the best players in the country.

Must admit every time I watch him I rack my brains wondering how he doesn't get opportunities at a higher level particularly when you consider some of the average talent in the Nix.

Both teams missed sitters today, TW could have been up 3-0 by halftime.

Some of the most average officiating I’ve seen in the ISPS. Ref had no grip on the game at all and what’s the point of having linesman it all they’re going to do is wait until the ref makes a call before they decide which way they’re going to?

I thought the officiating (esp referee) was okay, not terrible. What had you irked?

Fortunate for us that Abdulrahman left Al Ain the other month, though a shame for the tournament to not have him there.

Yeah I’m annoyed that he had to leave the season Al-Ain’s in the comp. For those who don’t know Omar Abdulrahman, he’s long been considered one of the best players not playing in Europe and iirc has won Asian Player of the Year in multiple occasions. Has all the talent in the world and could effortlessly play in the Premier League but his wages are massive in the Middle East, plus work permit issues mean he can’t easily come to Europe. Learnt about him a while back and my god his highlight videos are something else

always hard to predict when you know nothing at all about the opposition (but then I struggle in the YF picks on the A-League and I supposedly know something about the teams in that league!)

Reckon they will play well score but go out to a late winner so 2-1 loss or something like that....hope I'm wrong

Will be interesting to see how they line-up; I don't think that they'll change the usual shape, but will be interesting to see what the personnel decisions are, especially where Gulley ends up playing (i.e. whether as a CB or RWB as a more defensiveoption potentially). It'll also be interesting whether Clapham or Hailemariam start.

In terms of expectations, my 'realistic' expectation is a close loss, my hope is that it's not a thumping, and my secret dream is a heroic performance and a win. But yeah, like Dave said, in a game like this it's really hard to predict/expect anything.
