Jonsey9...firstly i never put the players name up but as part of the footballing public i just questioned who it was after i heard James McConie mention it on the show Crowd Goes Wild..also im sure turning up to a hotel 20mins after they were told too isnt the same as getting tackled to the ground and being handcuffed and escorted to a paddy wagon in front of 36000 people is quite the same. and to your issue of a City player im not aware of that. I just thought after waikato's arrests in napier a few years back i thought the club may have clamped down on such incidences. But no worries good on the lad...

I leave it at that...

Interesting Mr Waikato...i just remembered you lads were top at Xmas last season...what a complete turn around!! to be honest most are saying the standard of the league is worse this season so there must be something not right down there!! Most clubs in the world part ways with their managers if down the bottom at xmas..you think Waikato will do the same? There has been talk up here of replacements in regards to players and coaching staff for your lot. You might want to dig deep into The Scum since they cant play their players anymore!!

C'mon City!!

I think it shows the board has no idea and once again the coach will be the fall guy!!

In some respects yes and no.

The players have to do the business on the pitch, that much is clear. The flip side is that Bunce has picked that team and as a few people have intimated, he is entitled to pick who he likes.

I am loathe to put the boot into the guy when he is doing the job that a few others may not want to touch. While his team may not be doing it on the pitch, it is his team that he picked, not the board. If not Bunce in this scenario, then whom?

Just to let all of the true blue waikato fans in on some inside WFC chat. A little bird told me the other night that no one from WFC received any signing on fee this season.... this is un true. Steven Holloway received a $500 fee. He was also going to potentially receive $2000 by the end of the season if he managed to put himself the sh#t that is Waikato FC.

What is happening at WFC???
The team is not doing that well, the website hardly seems to get updated, noone even seems to comment on here anymore, has everyone lost interest, or is this purely the result of a very fickle waikato support?
Unfortunately I could not make the game this weekend but a 3-2 loss to Waitakere doesn't sound too bad, can anyone comment? Also hear the young lad, Carr? played in goal, a positive move, with another local (Ham Boy's) in the team..

Watched the game, wasnt a bad performance i thought - Waitak could have scored a few more but Waikato dug in and completed a good battling performance. Carr played well and looks well capable and Mark Jones another new comer from Taupo looked above the norm in midfield also

I think its a case of lost interest of everyone involved Mr Waikato. Even Bruce Holloway/Bunce has gone into hiding, possibly due to the fact his son Steven quit the circus early on. Your right about the website its nearly as bad as the results on the field. 3-2 against waitak still accounts to zero points im afraid Mr Waikato, although i would have loved you to beat the Scum. I think Bunce has conceeded defeat in his ability to coach at this level, he chucked in a few kids over the weekend so he can at least walk away saying he was promoting youth in the region. I dont know much about Edmunsen but im sure you'd love him to come back and fix things in the window! Seems he has been a bigger loss more so than the 10 or so quality players lost from last season.

Hope you can pick up a couple of wins! but wooden spoon seems the prize this year!

hello there. I can't see what basis there is for saying I have gone into hiding, let alone that is should be related to a family member....

I wasn't at last weekend's game and thus have nothing new of value to add about waikato at this point. But I have followed waikato teams for the past 40-odd years, regardless of what other members of my family have been doing.

Giving a couple of waikato teenagers their head was a good move by Bunce. The lad Jones seems to be highly regarded.

it's been a tough season for waikato. But while I may disagree with some of Che's strategies at times, the bottom line is we do need people of his generation taking up the challenge of trying to coach a team at this level. Good on him for doing so. it's easy to be an expert on the sidelines, it's a different matter to stick your chin out and do something.

Bruce how can that be a good move from Bunce, Playing inexperienced teenagers isnt goint to win you matches or get you off the bottom of the table!! the fact is, that they are the only players he can get to play for him! No one decent wants or will play for Bunce, even your best players from your region are drinking corona on the beach.

Bunce has very little coaching experience so why Waikato would take such a risk after last years great season, where to be fair when you came up against us and the Scum you played some very good attractive football at times.

Bruce your right it has been a tough season, but the franchise has made it alot tougher because of the decisions they have made.

You can walk away saying you gave it a go bringing up a few youngsters late on, but thats not going to cover up the excuses for recieving the wooden spoon at the end of the year.

However despit what ive said above, i do hope you beat The Bay this weekend, they wernt much chop up here last weekend, if you cant beat them...then i dont know you can do...goodluck!

To be fair to Che, he would have been more remiss in my opinion if he had not made any changes.

The thing about the NZFC is it actually doesn't matter a rat's arse if you come last. It's not like there is relegation.

Playing "inexperienced teenagers" got Waikato their best goalscorign return in months, and a better effort than many had been expecting.

Both youngsters were worthy of a start. Sean Dowling had hardly covered himself in glory in goal, and midfield has been an area of glaring weakness for Waikato, particularly in playing the ball forward. So it was not only fair enough to make changes, but pretty much expected in a lot of quarters.

But I agree with your comment on "decisions" having made things tougher. A couple of bad judgements have made things worse than they needed to be.

However it's a subjective business. What i consider mistakes, you might see differently. And Che might see it different again.

Bruce i doesnt matter a rats arse? thats a very poor attituide to have and one that seems the franchise carries!! come on mate have some standards!

Im all for youngsters coming through the ranks, its good to see young talent mixing it with the older heads, but i dont think at this time of the season is right to throw them in the deep end when the team is somewhat of a disatser. Sure play them when the team is on a high...

Teenages recent scorers?? Wasi Mauri is nearly 30 and im sure Dan Peat is not a teenager. your right about Dowling. He couldnt catch a baloon in a phone box!

I think the club has got unlucky with players not wanting to play under such a coach, maybe they wernt to know this. recruitment is a massive part of the game. 2nd string aucklanders like McGwyther, Munday, Wasi and The Fridge(Beard) of course are not going to perform to the level of last years players but it concerns me that you play 2nd string Hamilton players.

Bruce i appreciate your views, they do challenge mine! Fustrates me that a franchise not far away from us in a location sense cant put out a competitive side, especially when last year was so promising and even took the scalp of the scum!!

2 short? youve been about 16 short all season!! also been short of a coach.
Curtains are nearly closed for the season..

The fact that coaches have turned down the opportunity to take over in the past month doesnt help, but the board only has themselves to blame.

Who has turned it down?

After last season's huge success, including as has been mentioned a few times a win against a much stronger Waitakere than is being seen currently, this year has been a massive step backwards! Hopefully the board will do its all to get Edmonson, Pearce etc back for next season????

Waikato want Strom? Matt Ritchens refers to him as a hard man?? why cause he wheres a mouth gaurd like a league player?!! I refered to Beard as 'the fridge' due to his mobility, well in this case then i shall refer to Strom as the 'fridge n freezer'. Any signings that may help you out? Who else is being mentioned down there?

The board has backed Bunce in today's paper....

There is talk of Strom, Sean Devine, Pearce and Wylie...?????

All just rumour though

Sean Devine???? do they let zimmer frames on the field?!
Pearce and Wylie would be good for you.

Of course the paper is going to say they back Bunce, they cant get anyone into replace him.I dont think it would be fair to mention those who have turned the job down.

This thread is seriously dead, with last years coach self promoting and some detached Auckland supporter with a personal hatred of the coach.

There is very little factual information being posted here, anyone with anything constructive to say departed ages ago.

This forums is meant to be for fans of football right? This isn't the place to find out whats going on, shame really. Empty cans rattle the most.

Good morning, Waikato thread...

It was disappointing to read in Ryan Majstrovic's NZFC site report of the Waikato-HB game that "After losing influential striker Steven Holloway to work commitments earlier in the season, Waikato have struggled"

Whatever the various parties may think about Waikato's situation, and the reason for its problems, it is simply untrue to suggest Steven is unavailable due to work commitments. Indeed, i doubt he would recognise a work commitment if he stubbed his toe on one at Mt Maunganui beach.

Quite what prompted Ryan to report this I am not sure. Was this information reported to him? Or was it his own investigative work?

it has continued a trend where the media has somehow found the need to gild the lilly in reporting on Steven's  walkout. I can't understand why. Both parties believe the stance they have taken is the correct one, and have got on with life without any further drama.

So why can't we at least have something a bit closer to the truth if there is a need to canvas the question of unavailability? This nonsense tends to become self-replicating. Someone else will see it and presume it is true.

Here's a tip for budding reporters: always write for the interests of readers, not the sensitivities of characters or vested interests within the game.

(Normally wouldn't have bothered - Ryan's a good ex-melville lad, after all and no doubt means well -- but did want to address the above lament about a lack of life in this thread).

Couldn't resist posting this:

Bunce thinking that teams can play midweek at 5pm is totally unrealistic. These guys have jobs and take enough time off as it is. There are also players that travel from the Waikato to Auckland as well, so his justification for travel is pretty short sighted.

I don't know what he thinks his comments to the press are going to generate?

I actually agree with him. If they want to play O-League surely thy should be prepared to make scarifices. Otago United have 14 games in four and a half months, thats farcial. If they make the four thats another 4 weeks for two games, if they make the big one thats another 2 weeks for one game. What a farce.

I agree as well, this years NZFC is a complete joke, Waikato have played 12 games so far and had 6 weekends off. How is any team supposed to get any continuity??
Permalink Permalink
about 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
That maybe so, but it's just not practical to play games midweek or have 2 games on a weekend. If there was a decent facility with good lights then midweek would be more feasible, but playing at 5pm just isn't an option.

Personally, I can't see how NZF could do it any other way - happy to hear suggestions though.
