Folks.

I had a request from Auckland City to remove some discussion here as nothing has been confirmed and it could impact 'discussions'.  We'll re-engage this chat once/if the signing is confirmed.

Surely you were taking the p*ss?

Somewhere to crash isn't a problem as I'll stay at my parents.  Problem is the Junior News being ill...

When do the NZFC squads get named?

BTW who is Ronil Kumar?

Whoops, wrong one.  Ronil is at Waitakere, Salesh is the one at City.  You can add George Suri as well... point still stands.

It has been rumoured that Sam Jasper is on his way back up to Auckland.  His performance in the Chatham Cup final for Dunedin Tech against East Coast Bays caught the eye of both Chris Millicich and that of Collin Tua. According to sources close to Sam, he has been offered deals from Waitak and Auckland respectively.

It is widely known that Jasper's heart is with Waitak, however if he wants to get back into any type of NZ set up he will know deep down that City under the guidance of Tua will have to be his team of residence.

In other news Stuart Hogg has gone to Waikato.

I know for a fact that Milicich didn't watch the Chatham Cup final as he was at the National Academy Coaching Licence at Oceania on Saturday afternoon talking to coaches. So your information seems a bit wonky Sydney. Jasper for Waitakere or Auckland City will believe that when it happens. Why would Waitakere not keep him last season and why did Auckland not pick him up if they both want him now?

Love the rumours - can't wait until we see squads - does anyone know the naming dates for squads?

I think that Waikato is naming its squad right after its trials in Ngarawahia.

I did hear that Sam was going up north for summer... he could be heading to one of the big two.  Hes a solid option, very versatile.  I wouldn't be that surprised if one of them does pick him up.

Also just heard news that Matt Cunneen is going back to Waikato

He was indeed, and I had a very interesting chat with him while he was there!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Steven Holloway recently signed for Waikato, but there is a bit of an upset as he is planning a move back to the States to cure his love sickness.  He has also been in disucssion with a certain A league team giving Steven a win win situation.

Steven went back to New Jersey on Monday, and is currently doing pre-season training with his old team, Monmouth, while he decides his next move.

So has steven walked out of his contract with Waikato, Bruce? seems not a week goes by without some strife in that waikato squad

Maybe Fallon attacked him as well...

Steve played his best football over there, where he is highly regarded. So I think it just seemd a good place to get in a bit of pre-season, in conjunction with some off-field matters. It's not for me to comment, certainly not here, on his long term plans. But he will be back before too long.

Otago are talking to Neil Lennon about coming to play for them this summer - Lennon would probably drag the average age of Otago United up to around the "Big Fruit" mark!  However he would be a great addition and would do a solid job in the middle of the park for Otago alongside Andy Coburn.

Now that is great to hear. A name player with a high pedigree, just what Otago and the league needs. Hope it comes off.

Is this the Neil Lennon ex of Celtic?
Permalink Permalink

I don't know looking on wikipedia he's 37 would he be that good we've seen an irish man with a huge reputation come to Otago before and he's very average as a player and (no offence terry)
I question his coaching ability.

I hope he's a good player and i hope the signing comes off but i'm not sure how good he'd be. If the signnig happens we'' just have to wait and see on the 15 of November at Sunnyvale

Neil lennon was with Forest last season and helping out there with the coaching. He's only 37, which for a player of his calibre who was known as a box-to-box midfielder shouldn't be an issue. Terry Phelan's problem is that he's about four years older than that and probably playing because there is no-one else capable of doing the job.

Would not expect this to happen as Neil is now first team coach at Celtic. Doubt he would risk losing this for a stint at Otago United.

As long as Otago does not go the USA route for imports.

Permalink Permalink

agree with the fact the USA imports have been a mojor reason otago continue to struggle none of the imports except perhaps kevin taylor have been of a good enough standard and these players get overpaid leaving the rest of the squad on barely 100 a week if that!!

You and me r going to have to disagree on that because really i think in particular alvino and taylor have bought a professionl attitude to the club and some decent preformances along the way

i very much doubt that these players bought a professional attitude towards the football in otago. as alvino tended to treat it as a bit of a holiday while he was here and enjoyed the social life a whole lot as well

Neil Lennon for Otago, that is the biggest load of crap yet, will certainly believe that when I see it. I heard that Otago hasn't even signed or in some cases spoken to any local players. don't believe for a second lennon is coming. Next feedback you will tell me they have signed vinnie Jones. although he would be perfect on Sunnyvale

Fair enough disagreeing. For me an import is someone who brings something special to a team and can add value. Over all I would not say this about the Americans we have employed.
We have tried these third tier players for a few seasons, time to look elsewhere..

I agree the americans were no better than the local boys, I did hear though that Wellington are talking to Kevin Taylor which surprises me......

Well Vinnie Jones would be a bit far fetched - hes a big time actor now isnt he?....... just reporting on what ive heard from more than one source.  Also I have heard that Alvino spent many a day down at Gardy's on the lash.
