Any rumours floating about with who and where to?

I hear Waitakere are keen to sign former Waikato FC and Wales Under 21 striker Dale Beattie.
And from Feedback, maybe Wellington signing Cole Tinkler might go to Otago to join a good friend down there who he played with in Singapore.
Is this the correct stipulation?

Also, on a sad note, i hear one Under 23 player, who shall remain nameless is set to retire after the Olympics, stipulating he has nothing higher in the game to achieve. Seems a bit premature doesn't it, sounds like his bedroom performance from all accounts...

Why on earth would Waitakere sign Dale Beattie - they have a truckload of quality strikers and don't need an overweight, slow striker who can't seem to score goals. In my opinion Dale never played well for us at all.

They do need a replacement for Totori though I think Krishna may assume that role

i can confirm Blair Scoullar who ditched CUFC 1/2 way through last season will be back home at Otago

Blair looks like he needs a fitness coach....

Can he do justice to Otago United when based in Central Otago?

I'm not denying he needs to lose a pound or 2 but the goal he scored against wellington in 2006-07 at the cale will live long in the memory

It has been confirmed today that Sam Jasper will be wearing the blue and gold colours of Otago for the next NZFC season.  The former New Zealand Knights player has been plying his trade in Dunedin for the Chatham Cup 1/4 finalists - Dunedin Tech.  After a great run of form in both the league and cup competition, Otago have managed to clinch his signature a couple of months out from the begining of the season.  He will join Schoular on the list of 'new boys' that Otago will put out this season.

Thats fantastic!!!! Where did you find this out?

Now all we need is for Cam Parkin to stay in Dunedin after his time with tech istead of going back to HBU.

Call me confident or bias but if we can secure our yank imports back i'm pretty confident of a handy united team this summer.

Liam Little (Caversham)

Terry Phelan (Unattached) - Kevin Taylor (Minnesota) -  John Chisholm (Dn Tech) - Cam Parkin (Dn Tech)

Sam Jasper (Dn Tech) - Andy Coburn (Dn Tech) - Blair Scoullar (Dn Tech) -Terry  Alvino (Minnesota) - Mike Eisenhut (Roslyn)

Aaron Burgess (Dn Tech)

Subs: Croyden Wheeler (Caversham), Mike Smith (Caversham), Tristan  Prattley (Dn Tech), Robbie Deely (Caversham), Patrick Fleming (Caversham), Dan O'Kane (Caversham), Tom Jackson (Caversham), John Lang (Dn Tech), Ben Keat (Roslyn), Mike Cunningham (Dn Tech), Nick Tarrant (Dn Tech)

Not a bad team at all I'd say but this being Otago we could barely expect to get 3/4 of this team

Otag really, really need a consistent goal scorer.  They are always hard to break down but the NZFC is always pretty free scoring and that really has been a problem.  So far the americans haven't generally lived up to the mark.

Thank f**k for that. That's two of our worst performers gone from the Dragons .

The Yanks have not performed for Otago Utd.  I would be disappointed if we went that way again. The Solomon Island front runners look like better investments than what we have had over the last couple of years. Otago Utd has the smallest budget of all teams in the league and this has reflected in the quality of imports.

We live in hope of having a couple of class imports to create and score goals.

Hang on Kevin Taylor at centre back was one of pur best players last seaspn and Terry Alvino worked well as a holding midfielder. Chad Severs on the other hand did nothing and was crap but the other two were good players.

Otago United's problems are in it's foundations: the league and administatration of soccer down here, which is poor.
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

For imports Terry was passable. The rest were not up to standard. Kevin Taylor was not one of our best players, was a journeyman at best, caught ball watching, dived in and was unco.

Otago do a good job with limited resources, no white knights or large commercial base to tap.

I think that the starting lineup might be a little different otago fan as chisolm and parkin are moving to Waikato and Hawkes Bay respectivly

It hasn't been mentioned here, but is old news: Dan Robinson (Waikato FC 'keeper) is going to Waitakere. Damn shame, he kept us in a lot of games last year. A bit of a character off the field too. Always had time for the kids.

Yeh he's a great shot stopper. Remember him down at Park island playing for Gisborne City year or so back. Always has a laugh and a good chat with the kids.

After last seasons late run by Steven Holloway for the golden boot, and following his heart break that saw the 23 year old rejected from the olympic squad.  Auckland City have came a knockin' on the young man's door.  Steven has been offered a very good deal according to my inside sources which Waikato are trying to match.

It just shows that for all that bad things that has happened to "the best young striker in the country (quote from holloway senior in an earlier post)" that it shows that some people are watching you Steven!

Good on you Steven Holloway!

I saw Holloway play for Melville at Lynn-Avon earlier this season and thought he was (along with Graham Little and Benjamin Totori) the best forward I'd seen in NZ. His movement and work rate seemed head and shoulders above anyone else. Definitely capable of better things.

I wonder if i could nip this conversation in the bud before it gets too silly, even for wind-up merchants on a forum. Steven has had a haphazard winter season in which he has been plagued with injury, often been unavailable through work, and seldom trained with his team - and perhaps even struggled for motivation. He has scored just four goals in about 10 matches, from memory. In the circumstances it is completely misleading to say he has impressed. Hope this helps get things into perspective.

I'm not being a wind-up merchant, I actually did see a lot of promise in him. Admittedly, it was all on one game though. Sounds like I picked a good game to see him play in then.

I agree, for me cam parkin has been the form player of this winters spl....
Who am i to judge, well i am a fellow player in this league and have really been impressed with cams form, he may be a young player but his presence on the field reminds me of a young ryan nelson.
Loosing him to Hawkes Bay United was a real loss to  a fragile Otago United team and im my opinion a player like this could have turned Otagos season around, if he was to sign Otago it would sure up a shaky backline, one in which for me Kevin Taylor failed to make an impression.
Otago must stop signing over-rated americans an focus on local players such as cam parkin, i feeel as though we are wasteing our money in the hope these americans will generate a winning season....
Best of luck to the tech lads, im sure they will bring home a victory for a provence that hasnt had alot to celebrate in terms of soccer over the past couple of years

Peace

I have heard good things about two players in the Southern league - Cam Parkin and another player who i am unsure of his name but his nick name is "Sheep dog"..... im not too sure if thats correct - can anyone tell me his real name?  How old is he? What are his plans for this summer? Any Hawkes Bay, Otago fans care to shed any light on the Parkin situcation?

Yes his name is cam parkin, or cam perkin as ferered to in some soccer write ups, his nickname came about in first year and has suck with him ever since....Sheepdoggg
He is a lively player good in the air and distributes the ball well....
Rumors are about of his transfer back to Hawkes Bay United, but personally i believe with the right incentive he could stick round Otago and play under Terry Phelen again.
As he is a young player (21 years of age), he has the potential to be around for a long time and could prove an invaliable member of the Otago squad for this up coming season
Thoughts?

I heard Waitakere and Auckland were chasing him as well. Must be a good player then. Dont remember him much last year but then everytime i watched Otago last year they just defended in groups.
Permalink Permalink

Just for the record Waitakere were not chasing him.

Yes, i have had word from the inside that waitak or auckland are not looking to sign him, but this doesnt take away from the quality of player that Cam Parking is......
is there anyone in the league that can have such an impact on a team like Cam parkin?
Thoughts and comments would be valuable?

what's with this rather wierd obsession?

his dad, terry, was a quality defender for napier city rovers back in the time that they won the chatham cup.

saw him play for the bay last year and he didn't stand out.

so, rex do you have any confirmed signings for us?

A player to keep a real eye on this upcoming season

How does anyone get inside information on an NZFC's recruitment?? I used to know what went on in Waikato as a mate of mine's son was playing and I found out the odd bit or two. Very easy to state point blank that they are not chasing this player or that unless the person is either the board or the team management.

Does Rex post here?

After conversing with his manager after the epic Chatam Cup game, he is still in limbo as to who he is going to sign for....

Rumors are still around of Hawkes Bays interest, but Otago and Canterbury remain dark horses to get the valuable signature of the player. the next couple of months should prove interesting for the young player as he will be an intergrall part of any squad in the up coming nzfc
Anouther brave performance for the dominating left back allowed the mighty Dunedin Tech to take out the Chatam Cup semi, with an important clearance of the linesand devastating tackles on some of the Glenfield players. i shall know more within the next couple of days so will keep you updated....
Ps that Burgesss guy is alright
