waitak are signing totori, tom biss, joel stevens, aaron jones, steven gray (from oz i believe) for the o-league

they have released coombes, dowling, lowdon, cardozo, solomons and possibly hogg

IF this is true can the poster of some months back apologize for stating Waitak were insolvent and unlikely to make Fiji.....just saying.

I think I said that they had no cash and were unlikely to qualify for O League. Both of those points have been true.

A recent Waitak player told me the other day that Hogg turned down a contract at Central Coast Mariners because the $$ wasn't high enough for him and that he turned down a second trial at the Phoenix because rejection would make him look bad. Maybe Waitak had to reduce his salary and he spat the dummy?

Fuck this stupid game

Wow.

You really have to question the stupidity of those decisions. Gets offered to play pro football and says no. Gets offered a trial and says no.

Who is giving him poor advice? I know that money is a factor to some degree especially if you have to move to Australia but then if you think you are good enough, back yourself to put in a good shift and earn more on the next contract if you just sign for a 1 year deal.

Considering the AWs need an LB, this makes it an even more bone headed decision. Playing in a pro team puts you in the window.....

His opinion of himself is somewhat on the high side, it seems.

But good on him, you never know who might come knocking if you keep telling yourself how good you are.

Brian Shelley is the new Director of Football at Waitakere United - he has already announced that he is leaving his role at Rangitoto College. What does a club with only 2 teams need with a Director of Football. Especially since the season is almost over for them

I heard CCM only offered Ian Hogg a barest minimum deal and he has a good new contract from his full-time NZ job so understandable. I guess the lad has to consider his long term future now. Would still love to see Hogg get a decent professional contract somewhere. Still think the Phoenix should give him a proper go at LB.

Minimum wage in the HAL is $45k I think. That's not exactly bones of your ass.

They offered him ANOTHER trial and he turned it down (if what we read above is correct). You can't blame the Phoenix for another crack and he says no.

Surprised we went Timmins over Hogg, maybe that answers it.

timmins looks like more of a footballer to me,but of course hogg has that awesome pace. and i'd rather see a kiwi on board

I must admit I'd have grabbed the CCM opportunity but we all make our choices. I guess you have to be a gambler to want to be a professional footballer.

Yeah I agree. I think if you look around, there have been a few guys that have gambled that it has not come off for.

I guess at 23, if he wants to be a pro footballer, you would look to take any chance you can get if you back your own ability. Maybe he has decided its not for him?

Newsflash! Waitakerie Utd go for broke!

"Kim Dotcom backs Waitakerie Utd A-League bid. In a specially televised news announcement today, Kim Dotcom announces plans to launch humble Waitakerie Utd into the Australasian super-league by backing the west Auckland ASB-League outfit in an audacious bid for A-League glory. To a background of crashing drums, stroboscopic lights and disco-beat, the internet multi-millionaire stated his intention of bringing the A-League back to New Zealand's largest city 'within one more year'. And home games will not be staged at 'the Fred' as Waitakerie's humble ground is affectionately known, but 'more than possibly at Eden Park'.

"We know our rivals Auckland City FC have shown interest in a similar endeavour," a Waitakerie spokesperson afterwards admitted. "But with this sudden show of support from one of the country's richest and best known individuals, we're determined to make it a two-horse race. Let's see the colour of their money!"

Brave words. And possibly the start of a brave new era for NZ soccer."

"At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive...

I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...

Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...

Oh Rio, Rio, hear them shout across the land..."

I'm hoping it's a reference to how an Australian commentator once pronounced it years ago.

Three for me, and two for them.

Waitakery.

Btw, cheers Chopah. And well done to Ellersle for their ACFC tournament win. I enjoyed watching them.

Didn't pick that. Thought Pirae would throw the game by fielding a weakened squad for the upcoming semi, resting players etc.
Obviously fancy their chances against ACFC.
