Ooohhh maybe it was not you. I read it on here and I remember your black shadow avatar.

If I am mistaken, I sincerely apologise. I hate people putting words in my mouth so hate doing it to others.

I know I definitely read it on here within the last week.

i'd be keen to hear a run down from anyone who went too

but i'm not sure if we have any waitak fans on here...  we might have to start paying acfc fans to watch them and provide us with the information

Of course they do. Got to spread the love (and the grant money). Wool (esp the Merino variety) costs a bundle these days.

There never have been any Waitakerie fans posting on this forum. For the simple reason.........

I didn't go but a friend of mine did. Basically he said that the only faces he recognised on the field was Brian Shelley, Sam Matthews and (he thought it was) Ethan Galbraith. No one else sighted in the crowd or bench that would be a usual suspect in a Waitakere side and that the team was a bunch of trialists with faces he had never seen before and if that was the standard of players they were looking at, they are in the poo.

I suspect that they really are in the crapper.

Good signing. What else is going on? Who is signed or they still trialling a lot of hopefuls?

Ian Hogg and Tristan Prattley, maybe that means prattley at CB not LB?

Precisely that. Rumours of players getting out quick smart..... The scrimmage games have been unknown trialists.

Who scored for Birko?

Three for me, and two for them.

I have nothing more than a score sorry.

That is embarrassing for them. If Rex was still involved, this would not be happening. Give us a wave Bill McGowan and his coaching muppets. Anyone still wanna argue that coaching school girls is a perfectly good lead in for coaching an ASBP side?

It was a thrown together Birko team aided by some good players from sports   and 4 of Birko's u 19 s.

I'm sure witak will get it right just seem very lite up front... With not many options.

Given that Waitakere have about a month before they play ACFC in the Charity Shield game I would suggest this result indicates they are far from prepared. ACFC has already played Fiji's Ba and the Phoenix and won both. City has probably got one of its strongest squads ever while Waitakere seem to be struggling to attract good players. I hope I'm wrong because the ASBP needs a competitive Waitakere, but they seem to have put too much of their limited resources into an administrator rather than the team manager and players. What happens on the field is where it matters most.

I don't think it is just a coincidence that this has happened with Rex's retirement.

Good post BM and you are on the money. Say what you like about Rex, but he did a shit load and paid himself nothing - he put it into the team. Granted he probably does not need the cash but then the CEO gigs that McGowan has had, he would hardly need the coin either. The irony should not be lost that they didn't want to pay Marshall the same again, Billy is taking his wedge now instead and the team are struggling...

Think you are being a bit unkind to Bill. He has been an excellent coach in the past and was with Waitakere more than 20 years ago and they were very successful  then.

Ricki was successful with the Phoenix 3 years ago and had them within one game of the final. Why is he coaching like ass now? John Adshead took us to Spain but was shyte in his 1st season of the Knights 23 years later. If you think those points have no merit, put them along side yours... Bill is also the franchise general manager, not coaching them.

I think that because a lot of these players get paid a decent wedge at NRFL level (and having seen some of the figures, they are ridiculous for a regional league) they expect that because ASBP is the next level, they should be paid. I have heard though a source that is decent that Waitakere have yet to sign their naming sponsor up so maybe the well has run dry on the cash front. I think there is a combination of that, and no one wanting to play for the Temple-Shelley team.
I agree it's a shit situation. If I were paying players, there maybe only 4 or 5 I would pay. The rest, get a job...

i'm not against paying players, but surely there is some honour left in playing national league footy - playing with and against better players and bettering yourself as a result, jetting around the country playing different teams in different places and getting quality coaching

it just occurred to me that it's such a good opportunity for players, that if NZF were running waitak, they'd probably charge players $1,000 to play.  maybe your friend mcgowan could consider this option...

i must add, that the problems at waitak show the franchise national league in a poor light vs the club option
