WeeNix playing at the Mount tomorrow. Yay. I wonder how many senior players will be in that.

McGlinchey, Lowry, Rogerson, McGarry, Italiano, Sail, Singh, Ridenton all in squad.

Oh cool. Thanks for that. Vey windy here, so the Wellington boys should be in their element.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

12 Mar 01:22

So doe Rufer not even make the youth team now?

What the hell did he do... the club has already forgiven Doyle and co etc.

12 Mar 03:28

anyone got a stream for this by chance?

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.
12 Mar 04:45

Sarpreet Singh scores a screamer.  Nix leading 2 nil

12 Mar 04:51

how did they not score then?

12 Mar 04:59

Hamilton pull one back.

12 Mar 05:26

Full time 3-1 to the Weenix

12 Mar 08:46

First goal was Matt Ridenton, after a nice one-two with maybe Singh, second was a left foot belter by Singh after the Weenix had hit the woodwork twice in a couple of minutes, 3rd was McGarry after a good break by Rogerson. Salter scored a good goal for Wanderers.
Impressed by Liam Wood's organising from the back, including ordering Lowry in his work
Jack H-Sinclair did well at right back.
Ridenton was the stand out player, calm, running the midfield, McGarry looked strong there too.
Rogerson was always dangerous on the wing, though he took a couple of dives, which I wasn't impressed by.
.

Oh god they had the old Wanderers #s in the programme did they? Wanderers goal was Stafford Dowling, a youth teamer. Would say Liam Williams got a touch to the first Nix goal, so an oggie.

Yeah assume Sail will bench for the first team whenever there's a clash.

Watson/Rufer/Ridenton may get some starts too.

20 Sep 04:10

I imagine one of Rufer or Ridenton will play in CM over Cacace most weeks too. Seems Kalezic likes Singh, though might be just due to injuries so far. And do the Nix see McGarry as a LB? They've played him everywhere but so far, but I know a few people who think it's his best position.

20 Sep 04:11

Sail isn't 'in the squad' as he's not an under-20. Singh, Rogerson, McGarry can play every week, plus a senior keeper, plus two senior pros. (not sure if the latter is still 'provided the opposition okay it')

20 Sep 04:48

Cacace is pretty highly rated.  I'd expect him to play most of the time.

I think the player agreement with the Phoenix is negotiated annually and not on NZF site.

"The Wellington Phoenix may also select Players pursuant to the terms of its Participation Agreement with NZF" from 17/18 regs

would that be why they are called the Wellington Phoenix Reserves this season instead of U20's?

Think that's just common sense finally kicking in

"The Wellington Phoenix may also select Players pursuant to the terms of its Participation Agreement with NZF" has been in the regs the past 4 years, but yup, it's definitely changed over that time.

Why is McGarry listed as a LB when he is not a LB.....?

Grumpy old bastard alert

mostly because that's the best place to put him while ensuring the best mix of talent and potential

partially because some think that's where he's best placed to succeed

Why not put him in goal then since there is no goal keeper listed and we need to put the best talent on the field *facepalm*

Play players where they are best suited. Have we not learned that from watching Louis Fenton? (and the other coaches and players I could list)

Are wide backs not the new wingers? Which is where McGarry should be playing

Not sure about his best position now, but playing for Otago through the age group rep tournaments he was always an out and out left winger.

Kotahitanga. We are one.

22 Sep 10:00

I have no clue about where McGarry is best suited to play, all I know is the national age-group setup clearly saw him as a left-sided player (left back/left wing, whatever). who else is a LB in that squad? Jake Williams? I chucked him there because it works, and because in Marowa and Whyte there are other attackers. I listed a goalkeeper too, so thanks for that crack.

I also know that he can't go on being played everywhere - as the WeeNix did last year (LW, LB, CM, as a striker in a pair with Rogerson).

It's interesting that the Senior Nix who list him as a midfielder clearly disagree with the age-group programme.

Some changes made to draw

main one being that the Weenix v TW derby has been moved from 29/10 to Sat 28/10 - which now clashes (grrr) with the Capital v Central game in the Women's League (1pm KO at Petone) and the Youth league game is now on Sunday the 29th (2pm KO at Petone)

Also No change to the KO time for TW v Tasman which is 2pm on 12/11 meaning a quick rush from DaveyF to Westpac for the Phoenix v Perth Glory

and some changes around the end of season due to the Oceania Champions League games

updated draw

have they got a lot of non academy players in this year?

Why would they? Isn't the whole idea that the academy pipeline just keeps producing weewee nixers - from Wellington, Onehunga etc.

Though I suppose they picked up Marowa from outside last year, so what do I know?

Maybe they aren't using the aucklanders? Think I saw masseurs and bazoukis in a pic

These squads were posted on the WPFA website as '2017-18 squads' last month, have since been taken down/website's changed anyway. What age are 'masseurs' and 'bazoukis' - both have been transferred to the Handy as per Capital clearances.

Obvious JHS has gone from the WeeNix.
