ah I dunno which team they are in. The youth team used to be under 17 didn't it? Bouzoukis must be older than that.

I think they must have grabbed a whole lot of local club players for youth league

Heaps of those named in the weenix though. I don't think that is the roster.

As noted, they did take these down from the web.

Some of the overlap is because WeeNix will have 3 seniors down a week (+Singh/Rogerson/McGarry)

is there a limit? Singh, Rogerson and McGarry are seniors, there used to be a limit but I thought the deal changes evrey season and they are just a reserve team this season rather than an U20 one

Pretty sure that is not the roster as was talking to someone from the Greeks over the weekend and they have Luke Agalawatta, Jacob Masseurs, Manny Achol and Gianni Boukoukis all involved in NYL and ISPS Branda Premiership.

Last year it seemed to be that they could drop down a senior keeper, two senior pros, and as many under-20 pros as they wanted. Would imagine it's still that, given they have Singh/Rogerson/McGarry (under-20 pros) all listed as regular squad members.

All the players on the roster have been transferred, but so have these guys, so they must have added a few extra bodies.

Anyone know these guys

Batchelor, Maximilian
Thomas, Ben
Nyatsanza , Forbes
Singh, Pranay

Have all been transferred to ISPS Handa (first two from Miramar, second two from Lower Hutt) but aren't in Team Welly afaik.

Not sure if he is or not - but maybe the new coaches don't see the need to place emphasis on the academy (as they def seem to have cut back a bit)

Chris Greenacre announced as Wellington Phoenix Premiership head coach

Wellington Phoenix are proud to announce Chris Greenacre as the new Head Coach of Phoenix Youth Programme, including the Premiership team.

Competing in the ISPS Handa Premiership, New Zealand’s top-tier national domestic competition, Greenacre will oversee the Wellington Phoenix U-20s and help integrate talented young players from the club’s Academy into the first team environment.

For General Manager David Dome Greenacre’s experience both as a professional footballer in England but also as co-coach of the Phoenix’s senior side during the second half of last year’s A-League campaign make him a perfect fit for the role.

“For a young player looking to make that step up from potential to actual professional footballer you couldn’t hope for a better role model than Chris,” said Dome.

“He’s been there, he’s done that – he’s made it the hard way in mid-90s English football and he knows the day-in, day-out discipline it takes to make it to the top.”

“Coupled with his experience last season as A-League co-coach, Chris is perfectly placed to know the level our younger boys need to reach, and that’s ultimately our goal with the Academy – to bring through the best young talent New Zealand offers and provide them a pathway to becoming professionals.”

Greenacre made 500 professional league and cup appearances over a sixteen-year playing career for clubs such as Manchester City, Stoke City and Tranmere Rovers, scoring 144 goals, including 19 with Wellington Phoenix over three seasons.

For Greenacre, having worked as an assistant to both Ricki Herbert and Ernie Merrick as well as co-coach alongside Des Buckingham the opportunity to bring through the next generation of Phoenix first-team players is an exciting proposition.

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to continue learning in all the roles I’ve fulfilled since hanging up my boots,” said Greenacre, “so having the responsibility to develop youth players is an exciting new challenge for me.”

“My experience both as a player and a coach within the Wellington Phoenix senior setup enables me to give our Academy boys the best possible chance to make it as pros.”

“The individual professional standards, the detailed commitment you need to succeed, if I can pass those on to our young lads than I’m confident Paul [Temple] and I can continue to build off the excellent base that Andy [Hedge] has put in place.”

Wellington Phoenix would like to put on record its gratitude to departing coach Andy Hedge and acknowledge the very sound foundations he and Paul Temple have put in place over the past three years, bringing through players such as Sarpreet Singh and Keegan Smith.

Temple continues both with administrative and coaching responsibilities inside the Academy helping ensure a continuity of footballing philosophy and values across all programmes.

“Since arriving at the club I have really enjoyed working with Andy and I’ve learnt a lot from him,” said Temple. “I have nothing but respect and admiration for him, I want to wish him well in the future and hope he continues to positively influence the game in this country”.

“Having Chris involved is fantastic, he knows what it takes to play in the A-League and brings many valuable experiences with him into the Academy environment. The players & staff will really benefit from having him around and I’m looking forward to working closely with him over the summer”.

The ISPS Handa Premiership begins Saturday 15 October with the Charity Cup clash between last season’s finalists Team Wellington and Auckland City.

Wellington Phoenix U-20s start their ISPS Handa Premiership campaign Monday 23 October away to Hawkes Bay United in Napier.

Sorry Feverish, I can assure you Andy has gone. A letter was sent out today from David Dome explaining the reasons and the new structure. Greenacre new head of Phoenix Youth program ( includes Premiership/u 20's), Temple as assistant to Prem team and NYL coach. As I said above, no mention as yet who's taking the 15's with Hale's departure. The reasons for Andy's departure were also outlined.

What were the reasons?

Why would they? Isn't the whole idea that the academy pipeline just keeps producing weewee nixers - from Wellington, Onehunga etc.

Though I suppose they picked up Marowa from outside last year, so what do I know?

Maybe they aren't using the aucklanders? Think I saw masseurs and bazoukis in a pic

These squads were posted on the WPFA website as '2017-18 squads' last month, have since been taken down/website's changed anyway. What age are 'masseurs' and 'bazoukis' - both have been transferred to the Handy as per Capital clearances.

Obvious JHS has gone from the WeeNix.

How does it work with Smith being GK in the first team and not being signed as a professional?

I did my best trying to find a website or Facebook page for this team, but alas no.  Any info on them that isn't Yellow Fever?

TW Youth is a collaboration between TW and Ole again this year. previous years it was a TW and Capital football joint venture.
