Agree with your comments. Was surprised at how average the pro element looked, including Rogerson and McGarry, who seemed to give the ball away a lot.  Got me thinking about trying too hard when you have a young team against seasoned players. First time I have watched them live, and was disappointed in them across the park. I thought Watson's language at his team as captain when they conceded was over the top too, as he had been average all game himself.

Agreed.Given they're meant to be the reserves for the first team, they really should've done better.

Judging by the way Italiano was speaking/acting all game he came across as a real Twit. Was actually glad Keegan is our first choice instead of him.

Genuinely interested: Does anyone know why players leave the Nix and go to play for Auckland City? Surely the A-League offers more money and better opportunities for playing abroad?

assume your talking about the ole kids?

One thought was that they can play in this league for ACFC and stay classed as an amatuer and not interfere with their college applications - I also get the feeling that Declan thinks his lads should be playing professional in a better league than the A-League?

Then again it could just be the club world cup?

Maybe, but would suggest it has far more to do with kiwis being classed as foreign players and non AFC at that. There are so many good players in Aussie below A league level to bring into a squad (club academy and NPL); and why would an A league club waste an import spot on a young kiwi kid? Look at Andre de Jong - stellar season in NSW NPL with Hakoah, often making team of the week and he can't and probably won't crack an A league gig. If Oceania gets direct qualification to WC, we have zero chance of this changing. Our best bet might be to be in the same confed as oz (east Asia?) and for kiwis to count as a +1 East Asian confed player.

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Watson missed a sitter.

Why does this not surprise me. He had a purple patch but is quite limited to just yelling and living offside.

he said leave the Nix. The Ole kids weren't at the Nix. Unless he is confused he must be talking about Riera?

true the flow of players between ACFC and the Nix has been as you would expect, overwhelmingly from ACFC to the Phoenix

Ben Sigmund, Michael Boxall, Jacob Spoonley, Ian Hogg, Albert Riera, Matt Ridenton, Roy Krishna & Oli Sail all went from ACFC to the Phoenix.

While David Mulligan, Cam Lindsay, Albert Riera & Jacob Spoonley went the other way

Sorry maybe I'm getting myself mixed up.  Done a quick Google and they were from Team Wellington. Ie Clayton Lewis, Howieson. Reiera was another.  Turns out Edge was Ole.

Just found it strange that players who were better than some of those in the Nix/Reserves were playing for ACFC.

Just been entertained by the Weenix, who played the better football and looked far more up for it than Suburbs. They managed an injury time equaliser, after leading for a lot of the match, and it was only an own goal that gave suburbs the equaliser at 1-1, then a great Finnish by Tim Payne made it 2-1. Lowry header at a corner got the draw.  Suburbs look like a team who have managed 2 points out of the last 12. Chris James subbed at half time, looking like his better days are gone.  Mcgarry was superb for the Weenix.

Suburbs were poor but thought Phoenix were as well.

McGarry is a great talent but too greedy and predictable - he will get found out and happily managed by better (A-league) defenders.

Just had the pleasure of watching the Weenix beat Hamilton 3-1 at home. A pretty dour first half followed by a very entertaining second . The Weenix came from a goal down and played some brilliant football in the second spell. Cracking equalizer from Luke Tongue.

Rumour has it there were $2 Double Browns.

Easy to call teams sharke but you still have to have the ability to outplay them and some recent opponents haven't. Weenix boys played more football than other teams I've watched recently. Not from Wellington but happy to see that football is alive and well in the Phoenix. Wonder if Feverish was one of the non paying Team Wellington people watching from the gap in the fence today. If so lift your game.

Why would Feverish be a "Team Wellington person"

Not quite sure what you are on about.

I was firmly inside the park. I think I have only seen one game this year - but the quality didn't ring my bells as much as it did for you. Wood invited that goal from Semy. Whyte wasn't prominent until he fluffed a chance and scored with another one later.

Anyone stand out for you?

I enjoyed the game yesterday. Even the first half i though the weenix kids did some good stuff. Their patience at times was good to see even though thry werent getting the final shot away. The main thing i am remembering is im watching a development team and i think they were playing exactly as I'd expect a development team to play, hold the ball pass the ball and recycle the ball before finding some good gaps. Of course being a development team its nit always going to come off but its good to see the lads coming along

17 Dec 11:50

I thought the first half was pretty dire, Weenix reverted to "academyitis" IE pass the ball around lots but don't actually do anything with it

Second half was better as it had goals but wasn't that great

Just how poor are Wanderers though? - They make the Big Nix look fantastic!

I havn't watched week in week out but I have always though Liam Wood was a good wee player. What do Phoenix fans think of him?

31 Jan 22:46

Whats the story with McGarry? Not in the squad last week. Presumably injured and not another one who's been released?

Hey guys, where does Cacace usually play and where can he play? Transfermarkt lists him as a DM but I remember him as a centreback at the U17 WC, and he played leftback last night

How did Smith go today? 7 conceded.

How much do the weenix kids get paid compared to the other teams?
