I think the crux of the issue is -
using the f word in a chant is unacceptable
& if kids are in your vicinity to tone things down a bit.

agree?

I actually disagree and agree.

I agree that in a chant it is unacceptable but in angst, dismay, concern, excitement etc it can be acceptable most of the time.

I agree if anyone (not just kids) in the vicinity find it offensive then be respectful but believe that we cant please everyone all of the time and that means some of time we have to enjoy ourselves even if that is at the expense of a few sometimes

exactly right -
a bit of consideration and everyone should have a good time

What makes people think that I deliberately set out to try get in as much foul and abusive language as I possibly can in 90mins before returning to my dull, insignificant exsistance until the next home game? Maybe I should write out a script for when I come over in January and post it on here so that people can comment on the words I can and cannot say during the heat of the moment!

As for chanting with "naughty" words in it, who really cares? As long as it has good humour intended and is not racist then I cant see an issue with it at all.

By the way, being Australian myself I find the "Same Old Aussie's" Chant extremely f**king offensive but do you see me getting all fired up about it? You can't? That's because it has it's place as a football chant at the RoF.

Let's not sterilize the Fever Zone. It is unique in New Zealand Sport and should be left to evolve over time.

Is that because you are "Always Cheating"?

But seriously, you've got to be joking. There is no comparison. I couldn't give a toss if someone chanted "Same Old Kiwis..." but I find the use of swearing in chants boring, unimaginative and witless. Yes I will swear at games but I won't chant it. Anyone who says it is in the passion of the moment is talking bull. Generally some thought goes into a chant before it is spouted surely?

Maybe I was imagining it, but I thought the swearing / obnoxious chant level dropped noticably at the Mariners match.  And no drop in the passion shown by fans, I thought the zone was in fine form.

Well done Fever!!
I was a bit aghast when the lads I was with who are at every game started up Get Into Em - but he doesnt read the forums - so when I expained to him the issue we have with it, he was sweet with giving it a miss. Goes to show you cant conduct the beahviour of people in the zone by just putting a few words on the forum.

The 'get into him' chant is probably the dumbest chant, apart from the "Wellington, Wellington, Wellingtooonn" chant.

If we want the team to pick up, I am sure people can think of some more creative chants than 'f**k him up'.

for some reason some people think the word w**ker isn't suitable!!

???

sometimes people shout their own thing like a
guy around me screamed out 'the referee's a c**t!'

but it's not TOO bad.

I often scream Feverish is a c*nt...but not usually at games...just on receipt of emails.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Is that why you got fired then?

Office-inappropriate language?

I am quite confused by your disdain for the "Wellington, Wellington, Wellingtoooon" chant.  I'm not alone.

It's a bog-standard celebratory chant - celebrates the team and and who we are.  An easy one for all fans to get into (and much more tuneful than oval ball standard chants).

Explain your disdain.  I'm curious.

I know, I know, its serious!

You could call it the "Immunised Zone"!
