Christchurch Tribute

I'm sure everyone by now is well aware of the terrorist attack that took place in Christchurch yesterday. There will obviously be a moment of silence for the victims of this attack. Afterward, I think it would be nice for us to commemorate the victims and support to their families by singing the chorus to "You'll Never Walk Alone" before kick off. I know it's not our chant, but it has a clear message, is easy to remember and I think it would be a nice way for us to show support. If you don't agree, please, don't take this the wrong way. I just want the victim's families and the NZ Muslim community to know that we stand with them in this sad time. If you don't know the tune, I've inserted a video with this post, the chorus starts at 1:21. If you think this is a good idea, have a different idea, or think we should just have the minute of silence, tell me below, please.

"Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart, and you'll never walk alone, you'll never walk alone"

We are in discussions with the Phoenix about appropriate tribute/s for the game Sunday and will advise once confirmed.

I can confirm there will be a minute silence before kickoff and team will be wearing black arm bands.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

I have a different idea. You'll never walk alone is a good idea, but as you say, it's not our chant. Might I suggest something that is us and well known:

Tūtira mai ngā iwi,
tātou tātou e
Tūtira mai ngā iwi,
tātou tātou e
Whai-a te marama-tanga,
me te aroha - e ngā iwi!
Ki-a tapa tahi,
Ki-a ko-tahi rā
Tātou tātou e
(Repeat)

English Translation

Line up together people
All of us, all of us
Stand in rows people
All of us, all of us
Seek after knowledge
and love of others - everyone
Call ourselves one people,
And stay united.
All of us, all of us

It was written "for all peoples, regardless of race, creed, beliefs, political stances, it was there for all people to stand as one"

And every one who went through the nz education system knows it rote, no need for chant sheets for that one.

For people like myself trying to place the tune

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

I hope the club are able to connect with the Muslim community in coming up with a suitable tribute.

Tūtira Mai is a better suggestion. Lets do that.

At the 50 minute mark, link arms and sing.

Well done to everyone involved - pregame huddle was incredibly special and touching. Nice piece of class by Fever and Krishna's celebration during game

50th Minute went off quite well, stood up down the front and no one followed suit, I had to explain to them what and why. Some thought it was an excellent idea. A moving day for Wellington and the respect they have shown towards Christchurch and it's victims. I don't know about you others, but I still cannot make sense of this stupidity. It feels like a part of New Zealand and it's ethos has been taken away. I love this country and pretty much everyone in it. But this is just so senseless.

honestly thought this was fantastic. Sing it on the 50th minute every week? Could be a nice tribute and tradition.
