Who started the "Singing in the rain" tune? that was class considering the conditions. Added a touch of humour during a disappointing day. Maybe we need to brush up on other show tunes for something different. Such as when certain match officials come out, we could sing "Send in the clowns"??

I really thought that 'Raining In My Heart'  would have been good given the weather and the score but I wasn't sure how many would know the tune.

They were the guys just to the left of me. Solid effort by them.

I remember a Sheff Utd crowd using their chairs to great effect for nigh on 90mins of a match a couple of decades ago. Far noisier than those Sony Sticks too!

I hope this is not the case, The Kingz had decent crowds in their first two years (still not as good as the Phoenix) and we all know what happened there.
Long may professional football live in Wellington, don't take it for granted or it will die there like it did up here.

I disagree that atmosphere is down.

No one can dispute that crowds are down though (5pm Sunday kick-offs?).

It's a bit early to be drawing comparisons to last year's crowds. We're only two games in. The opening game crowd last season was, if I recall correctly, swollen with comps. And the second game this year experienced weather bad enough to deter several thousand people - though that was very disappointing in itself.

humour moment: a chant "were gna win 5-4" started and the lad infront of me took it as "were gna win f*#k all" and started belting it out. lol. also is it maybe the thought of work on monday or something but to me we seem a bit flat compared to last years ridiculous friday nights.

Yeah we're two games in out of 11, with crowds of around 9,000 and 6,500.

Last season we averaged 11,500ish per game.

If we are to meet last year's average we need 12,300 punters on average to the next nine games.

The crowd for the first game was 10516 not 9000.

My point remains - last year's initial game had an inflated figure and this year's second game endured very bad weather that appeared sufficient to deter the Wellington public.

So after just two games, you're not comparing like with like.

My bad - I took the figure from the Westpac Stadium website. Not sure where yours is from?

I'm not trying to compare 'like with like'. What I am doing is saying that it is very unlikely that this year's crowd figures will be as high as last year.

My figure came from what they displayed at the game and is also mentioned on the A-League site.

Why are the stadium reporting reduced Phoenix attendances... most odd.

Given that last year's include two inflated games - the opener with lots of comps (why it was the highest of the season) and the Adelaide with lots of comps from the Galaxy match - I'd say last year's average was always going to be a push to match. Now that we have discovered the Wellington public are afraid of a bit of rain to the tune of several thousand, I think it very unlikely that we match last year's average unless we go on a really good winning run to pull-in the fairweather fans.

Yes we do - we wear a hundred layers and sit there shivering as we shout instructions at the players as if they were our children.

What a load of crap, from what i have seen the level of support has been outstanding. But wait i guess there are no kiwis taking part in that support and those actively supporting them arnt kiwis .Bullsh*t try again, having been to every home game the kiwi supporters are as involved as others in their support. So euorpean supporters dont shout things at their players then. You are having a laugh know.

You guys do have a tradition of football support, one that has it's roots in Europe. It'd be a mistake IMO if it was ignored.

That's all I'm saying and I'm not saying anymore.

Oh the Nix support is an absolutely brilliant exception, don't get me wrong. I was thinking more along the "tradition" line when I made my sarky comment. ie pre-Nix.

ie Rugby.
