Is it just me or do we need to get some new chants going and possibly some of the more original ones. Pretty tricky being such a large zone with calls coming out of everywhere and apart from the "Seagull" chant your not going to be able to get a new chant going at a game. The chants we have are great but I reckon we need some more variety. Had enough of farken disco's by about the third one.
I know chant sheets are out of the question but a bit of direction even in the form of a new chant being published in the pandemic (Or on the front page as a post) as voted on in a poll on the forum may help get them out there. Good ideas get shot down here all the time (although I know mine a rubbish) and nothing gets done about the ones people agree on.
Team Wellington Games could be a place to practice some chants which could be switched for the Phoenix as a significantly smaller group.
Could have a chant of the week which people can choose to try out. We won't really get a good idea of what works and what doesn't purely from posting on the forum.
Anyway just a thought and am sure not everyone will agree but just wanted other peoples thoughts on the matter?

I think we needed more chants for the players.....chants for individual bits of brilliance, goals, saves etc....

This one was posted earlier, but not yet used.I think it worth a look.

(sung to Brown Girls In the Ring - Boney M)

Weve got Tim Brown in the ring .....Tra la la la la x 3
And he looks like a Phoenix in the sun!

I cant see "There's only one Woody Patrick" having much of an impression at the Ring.

Agreed, we need some ORIGINAL Phoenix only chants! Tired of hearing the same chants sung at the other A-League games. time for the Yellow Fever Gang to show their stuff and break the mold of what other team's supporters are doing!

Seems to me that at the moment we have simply modified the chants that all the other teams use. They are great  Just a little over used perhaps?

any ideas then theprof? We're pretty good considering we're only just new, im sure some new chants will pop up eventually. Maybe we do need to be more adventurous on game day though, trying to start different ones up.

I'm not the one for ideas sorry, was born without a creative bone in my body! More of a social commentator really! Think the atmosphere for the first season has been fab, just thought it was quite amusing hearing the same chants being used by Sydney, Melbourne etc - I guess we have to start somewhere though.

There are a stack of chants in the 'hits keep on coming' thread here, but every time anyone starts anything new it gets flattened by one of the basics.

You can come up with all the imaginitve new chants you want but if not one other person in the zone joins you when you start it will go nowhere.

Read them learn them, and if someone starts them join in.

...and if a chant has a tune, please try and sing to it ?  "Go West" and "We'll be coming" are both pretty simple tunes yet they turn in to a shambles.

What we really need is a song.  A real song.

Not one with a whole bunch of made up words (maybe apart from one or two).

Liverpool has You'll never walk alone, Stoke has Delilah, Man City has Blue Moon etc etc.  But they are each a celebration of being part of the club.  Part of the unique sense of belonging that you get on the tearrces (sort of).

Trouble is you can't just 'decide' and woohoo, we have a song.  Maybe various groups have to get more active and actually sing new songs at BB or Fever lounge.  And then we can but hope that the fever spreads.

In any case, it would still be good to have a discussion on possible songs.  I have always rather fancied "I can't help falling in love with you"
you know ...
Wise men say only fools rush in
But I cant help falling in love with you
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I cant help falling in love with you ...
THE PHOENIX (as closing shout)
(there's more if you want, but small steps and all that)

It's dead easy to sing, and it feels good to sing (I've experienced it on the terraces in UK) - the words fit.

Maybe this belongs in a different thread, but there you go.

Who sings it? It feels like a Spurs song to me, but that's a total guess.

At Burnley (Turf Moor) - should have guessed by my name.  I think a few other clubs might do it as well.  a good pride sweller, though!

I agree. Other songs which may work maybe "Lean on me" or "Yellow" Maybe we could get some ideas for anthems down over the next couple of days and set up a poll?

my thoughts too - what's 'i'm forever blowing bubbles' got to do with West Ham FC, yet that's their song. So, why look for songs with the words 'yellow' or 'phoenix' in them, just keep trying for songs that fit - one will take off eventually.
btw - I enjoy singing 'Wellington is Wonderful' - good staunch song, easy to sing and it's got a bit of humour ('we've got the wind and the rain and the Phoenix')

don't think people are anti-DD, more just the association of some of his songs with yacht racing events - which seemed to go on forever providing a junket tour opportunity for state broadcasters and politicians (think we choked that one, as well)

I'm forever throwing bottles,
Tui bottles in the air,
They fly so high,
Nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams
They fall from the sky.
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere,
I'm forever throwing bottles,
Tui bottles in the air.
When shadows creep,
When I'm asleep,
To lands of hope I stray!

To the tune of "I'm forever blowing Bubbles"
That's kinda topical
