People here that have watched a liverpool game know that they sing youll never walk alone at the beginning of every home game.

Now since that that song ring of fire is the song that we named our stadium after we could chant out that song before the game and ask tony to tell the people to not play music.

If you go on youtube and search liverpool chants you will find this one that has a few and the last chant is ring of fire and i thought its pretty cool

I think that the music helps get it going, And everybody in the stadium can join in. Because if yellow fever starts singing it. it will take a long time for other people to catch on and join in.
And dosent liverpool play music during the song anyway?

Love Is A Burning Thing
And It Makes A Fiery Ring
Bound By Wild Desire
I Fell Into A Ring Of Fire

CHORUS:
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

The Taste Of Love Is Sweet
When Hearts Like Ours Meet
I Fell For You Like A Child
Oh, But The Fire Went Wild

CHORUS
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

And It Burns, Burns, Burns

The Ring Of Fire

The Ring Of Fire

I think it's an OK idea, but it needs the right song.  The reason You'll Never Walk Alone works so well is it actually means something, it's an anthem that Jerry and the Pacemakers made very Liverpudlian.  Listen to the song and what it means as a supporter to sing it (and the most poignant times are normally toward the end of the match, not before).

I personally don't like Ring of Fire, I don't like the song, I don't think it's lyrics support either the team or the club and I don't think it lends itself to unaccompanied singing.  I'm not sure it will ever be an anthem, which doesn't mean to say it shouldn't be played before the game, I just don't think it will ever start en mass spontaneously.

At the county ground (and I know it happens at other grounds too) we take a couple of verses of the Elvis classic "I can't help falling in love with you".  When ever I sung it at games it's always sung with heart, to me the lyrics mean through thick and thin, win or lose they have my support. The two verses we take are below:

Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I cant help
Falling in love with you

Take my hand
Take my whole life too
Cause I cant help
Falling in love with you

Agreed DLB, Ring of Fire just doesn't quite cut it as an football anthem. It's more than pulling a loosely fitting song out of thin air, it has to mean something...

I think it's a great idea though, just the wrong song.

I'd happily join in with "You'll never walk alone"

though there's one or two who might find it a bit  awkward, but they really don't know what they're missing

When you walk through a storm
hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky

And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart

And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.

Bugger the never walk alone,
the scousers have a far more impressive one that starts

There once was a scouser called Tommy,
who went to a far far land....

it's of epic proportions, if not quite Beowulf, but if some scally would like to shed light on this one...

Let me tell you the story of a poor boy, who was sent far away from his home,
to fight for his king and his country, and also the old folks back home,

So they put him in a highland division, sent him off to a far foreign land,
where the flies swarm around in their thousands, and theres nothing to see but the sand.

And the battle it started the next morning, under the radiant sun,
I remember that Poor Scouser Tommy, he was shot by an old Nazi gun.

As he lay on the battlefield dying (dying-dying), with the blood gushing out of his head,
as he lay on the battle field dying (dying-dying), These were the last words he said..

OOOH, I am a Liverpudlian, I come from the Spion Kop,
I like to sing, I like to shout, I go there quite a lot!

To support a team that plays in red, a team that we all know,
a team that we called Liverpool, to glory we will go!

We won the league, we won the Cup, weve been to Europe too,
we played the Toffees for a laugh, and left them feeling blue! 5-0!

1 2, 1 2 3, 1 2 3 4, 5-0!

Rush scored one,
Rush scored two,
Rush scored three,
and Rush scored four!
La La La Laa, La La Laa!

Football in England/Europe will always have these traditions, the game is part of these towns history, it is intrinsically built in to each person's life, whether they want to be part of it or not. Having a traditional song is not something you can create or force, it just happens over many years! Sadly NZ Football is a long long way away from such a tradition.

my guess is that with the Phoenix we are closer than we have ever been

still a way to go, but heading in the right direction

which, incidentally may or may not be the case for the  (increasingly un- ) English Premier League
(i expect that the other divisions and amateur leagues may still have a sense of community though)

Here we go lads.  inspired by Frankie, the Phoenix anthem:

Especially for you
I wanna let you know what I
was going through
All the time we were apart
I thought of you
You were in my heart
My love never change
I still feel the same

Especially for you
I wanna tell I was
feeling that way too
And dreams were wings you know
I would flown to you
To be where you are
No matter how far
Now that I'm next to you

Chorus:

And now, were back
together,together
I wanna show you my
heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

Especially for you
I wanna tell you, you mean
all the world to me
How I'm certain that our
love was meant to be
You changed my life
You showed me the way
And now that I'm next to you

Haha, I remember being at Highbury and the North bank fans sang that to the Sunderland fans. It was brilliant.

and pretty smug at the same time. One thing that really got to me about London clubs (I lived there for nearly twenty years) was their inability to laugh at themselves. Often times at games I'd feel that for ninety minutes fans just wanted to see the other team lose and NOT their team win.

That said I remember one afternoon at Highbury when, in a great game, Arsenal came from two down to beat Chelsea 3-2. I was on the North Bank and when the Gunners went ahead the ironic chant was "boring boring Arsenal..."
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

He belted out "Bound for glory" in the back of the Batmobile during halftime of the 91(?) AFL Grand Final.

It remains the most embarrasing halftime entertainment in Australian history.

Ah sounds familiar, remember watching Liverpool at Roker Park in the 70's great atmosphere.  "You never walk alone" was always sung at Sunderland when I was a kid.
