Denise van Outen is also a Basildon native (Hotel Babylon and also TOWIE) - I never knew that until recently but I always liked her accent.

My uncle Peter lives in Basildon. D'you know him?

I call BS on that.  My uncle Peter lives in NZ.

Nice One. Uncle Peter lives in some place in Bas named Great Mistley. Sweet. I phoned him last night, asked about 'the Bees' He says they're a feeder club for 'the Hornets'.

PS Go the Hornets! They look good for promo to the EPL. Probably deny Wood his chance in the sun.

Sigh. They're all on planet Hymenoptera even as some are raiding others' holes whilst the innocent continue buzzing merrily in their hives

Oi!  Since when does belonging to the same order make everything OK?

That's like saying bears and tigers get along swimmingly.

They aren't responsible for their actions; they're impelled by genes and natural selection. (Unlike footballers/football managers)

Twilight Zone freaky styley, James Burke connections moment:

Wiki page lists the current Manager for Basildon as one "Chris Wood"

Also former players who have turned professional:

  • Steve Tilson - Birthplace Wickford (virtually nieghbours but he is a bit younger than me)
  • Jonathon Gould...

Edit: the wiki page is out of date - from the Basildon Recorder article on the OP, Chris Wood quit in April last year.

What is it with Essex and cats (clearly not our Gazza's land of hope and glory)?

First there was the Essex Lion (well reem).

A week ago the U13s played the Great Danes Tigers

Next week they take on St Clere's Tigers and tomorrow the first team take on Sporting Bengal.

The Bees saw off Bethnal Green 2-1 and later tonight take on Southend Manor (not at Southend's Manor).

The U13s similarly dispatched the St Clere's Tigers (mere pussy cats) last weekend.

Videos for the game against Bethnal Green on the club website
Stripey power!

No game last weekend - presumably all the 1st XI were on international duty.

What's happening with the Bees? I'm going to be there (in Bas, at Uncle Peter's) in 2 weeks time so I need to know if I'll be watching a winning team or a losing one.

You are watching a stripey team.
A yellow and black stripey team.

Nope. Was in Kings Lynn instead. Linnets win Evo_Stick Ist Div in front of 1900 joyful asparagus eaters to gain promo to Evo-Stick Premiership, one Div below Conference Nth. Did watch Hornets at Wembley tho - but on TV

Forget about EPL glamour pussy clubs being on Sommet Sports.

We deserve some good grass roots, honest something-not-coal-face football in the form of Essex Senior League.

Vote Basildon United FC on the Sommet Sports Twatbook.

There's no such thing as too much stripey.

Not Basildon - Chelmsford City.  But still Essex, which is mostly important.
