How's this for a long shot. If Man Utd win the Champions League, I'm picking Fergison to retire, maybe not immediately after the game, but I reckon there will be someone new in charge at the start of next season.

it would have to be on his terms, can't see the club asking him to leave? He still sewems to have the desire to fight too. If I was in his place I'd ahng around for a little while longer.

nah, he would at least see out his contract i think and make more of a deal about it, rather than drop out suddenly.

No, can't see it. The man is too driven for success. He's United through and through and he's even said himself that he would have nothing to do. How old was Bobby Robson when he was at Newcastle? He was pushing 70 wasn't he?
I reckon Fergie could go on for a few more years yet. He's 66 at the mo I think.

I reckon he wil have done everything he's wanted to once he's had the satisfaction of building two separate CL winning teams. He'll go on his terms. I mean, why continue? What's left to do? And his replacement will be Sparky Hughes with Mike Phelan and Brian McClair as assistants.

There is something left to do in trying to win the league a third time on the trot I would guess. Critical_Lemon2008-05-13 19:18:09

It's been analysed to death over here and the consensus seems to be that he wants to overtake Liverpool's number of titles before he heads off (I think he needs two more).  The inside word is that he thinks this side could be his best ever and he isn't keen to let them go on to greatness with another manager (most likely Quieroz).

couldnt see it. He has to much of a desire for winning and i could see him as the type of guy who couldnt just drop out like that.

lol absolutely no chance mate, as has been said, the man is waaay to driven. and i would suspect that the champions league and primier league wouldnt be enough to make him retire just yet. he has said this is possibly the best side hes ever had as his command, he would want at least a treble, maybe all , for a shock retirement

can see the man going into his 70s..

Fergie wont quit ever. One day Carlos will walk into his office, and find him there dead sitting in his chair, and then the fun will really begin, when they try and work out who will be the next one. The contenders are already gearing up for it with Bruce, Hughes, O Neil, Carlos even George Graham. They will all want the job. My money would be on Martin O Neil, as he was touted a few years ago. But then again so was Steve Bruce. The thing with O Neil is that he has a winning pedigree already after his sucess with Celtic, and seeing what he has done with Villa would make him a good bet. But No, I cant see Fergie walking away, even for a directors role, as he would see that as being pushed away from what he does best.

Quieroz is a perfect replacement, he seems to be learning from Fergie well on how to complain about referees.

Three for me, and two for them.

Martin O'neil will take Villa into the top 4, knocking out Liverpool or Arsenal and stay on to build a beautifull fergie-esque relationship with the club and die at a ripe old age of 102 still at Villa with a bunch of fine silverware to boot :D

I gotta say I do love O'Neill's passion - he genuinely seems to care about how his team plays and goes berko when they score vital goals.  I think Liverpool were linked with him a few years back and many on Merseyside would have welcomed him there.

Spot on there. He wants to leave United as the most successful English club. That won't be achieved until United surpass the amount of titles Liverpool has won.

He will then move to his boyhood club Colchester United.

Can you imagine - Fergie managing Colchester - how would they afford him??? Unless he was doing pro bono work.

Fergie at Colchester...that'd be something! Wouldn't mind it as a U one bit.

Think Martin O'Neil would be an ideal replacement for him. He's a manager I hugely admire, seems to inspire confidence in his players and motivate them hugely. Hopefully Villa make it into the UEFA cup through the intertoto, with a few key signings Villa could be a suprise package in Europe next season.

But back on subject. Fergie to continue for a few more years at least. He'll know when its time to give it up.
