Chelsea and Liverpool's recent histories are tightly interwoven, the two sides having met 20 times in the past four seasons, with nine wins for the Blues, five for the Reds and six draws.

Make that 10.....and extend our home record at Fortress Bridge to 87 matches!!!

Scolari has walked into Chelsea's dressing room and commanded instant respect. He has grasped the language and it was refreshing to hear him regard an apparent injury crisis as a test of his abilities as a coach rather than a cue for excuses.

Nice one Big Phil....I admire that attitude!

Possibly Steve Wicks I would say.  Didn't he go to QPR when he left Chelsea first time? And that would be a young Clive Allen next to him?

Ahhhh yes thanks JD, Steve Wicks it is.  I wasn't certain it was KD but at first glance they do look similar...

Yep, you are right Coxey, I took the pic when we were staying at the Travelodge out by the Airport in 1983. QPR beat a Wellington Select 2-0. I gotta few photos that I scanned on Saturday having dusted them off.

Steve Wicks should have won England caps. 6'2, eyes of Blue, Stevie Wicks is after you!

So we lost to Liverpool - well beaten on the day.  Worth looking back at "that run" and saluting the best team Chelsea have ever had.

From the Guardian, the last time Chelsea lost in the league before this weekend was at home against Arsenal on 21 February 2004. Chelsea led after 27 seconds through Eidur Gudjohnsen, Patrick Vieira equalised and Edu scored the winner. Since then there have been:

86 League matches played at Stamford Bridge of which
62 were won by Chelsea who have gained
210 Premier League points, scoring
177 goals and conceding
44 to the opposition but keeping
54 clean sheets

Will a team ever be that dominant at home in England again?

Hmmm probably not, a lot of luck involved in that run although in saying that it is an amazing feat.

I guess that also means the last team to do the double over you is Arsenal in that same season? No shame in that though.

I think you might be right about the first league defeat of the year.

Don't want to sound churlish Buffy but a lot of luck involved?  I can only think of one game, perhaps Birmingham a couple of years back where we scrambled a last minute equaliser.  I can't think of any other games where we were in danger of losing going into the last five or ten minutes.  Arsenal got as close as anyone last year when we were saved by Essien's wonder strike but I can't remember any really lucky results.  I think a lot of it is just bloody mindedness and resilience like when Arsenal went a year unbeaten with lots of 1-0 wins.

Despite all that, we only got two league titles even though we lost no more than 4 or 5 games in two seasons.  Any other years we would have been champions.  I call that unlucky!

Agreed, that is highly unlucky. Arsenal once won the prem with 78 pts - can't see that happening anymore.

Sorry Paul, force of habit.   From memory though, you had a lot of late winners that year as most good team do!

What an outstanding 26 mins to dismantle Sunderland.......5-0....

A great hattrick to Anelka, a 100th league goal from Frankie Lampard....and a great way to bounce back from losing our 86 match unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge.....a good start to another run!!!

Bring on Roma midweek....

How long did that home run last?

Full strength Chelsea loses to Burnley at home .   And this after your assistant coach publicly criticised Arsene Wenger for playing his young guns in the Carling Cup saying it was disrespectful blah blah blah.

Not bovvered.  After three finals in four years we're over the Carling Cup.  The eyes are on much bigger prizes.  I don't think many Chelsea fans or players will be too gutted to be honest.

Hardly first team; missing Cech, Bosingwa, Carvalho, Terry, Cole (our entire first team defence) Lampard was a sub, Ballack missing, J Cole missing, an out of form Drogba playing while and in-form Anelka wasn't. Not to mention Essien was missing aswell.wellyphoenixfan2008-11-13 20:43:56

You'll be lucky to grab a double this season.

Well hes been injured, then he recovers, then gets injured again. I believe this is the reason and they are waiting for him to be fully recovered.

Crikey had to revive this thread from the second page... but anyhow...

Though i thought the foul was quite bad, almost a red card offence, i still find this quite amusing;

"Jose Bosingwa
The foul on the touchline by Kevin Nolan on the Chelsea right-back produced no fewer than seven separate rolls. Presumably the treatment he then
requested was for dizziness."

scolari needs a way to use both drogba and anelka. but, drogba should be number one hands down. he scores ar crucial times against the best opposition. anelka just piles up goals against sh*t teams and misses penalties
