Ballack can fill in for him no problem. This really is the season decider. It could also be a potential dress rehersal for the Champions League final!

fkcen terrible call! there is no way in hell they deserved that penalty, robbed of a draw cause of a linesman who wanted his 15 minutes of fame, what a farce

o and just for sheer ridiulous factor, did anyone watching notice the big pout and fall dider drogba did when he kneed vidic, only to realise he'd actually hurt him and turn off the act? he's already put on his dive and roll around face before he realised he'd hurt the guy, pathetic.

robbed of a draw?  shows what your intentions were from the outset.

True that, you never deserved to win it! I hate to say it but chelsea played better and fought harder for the win.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Have to agree.  Your biggest league game of the season, you can put the title beyond doubt and Ronaldo's on the bench?  Go figure.  Your guys didn't want it as much because they knew they could afford to lose.

As for the penalty.  We see those given every week and whether it's a pen or not depends on who you are supporting.

Of the Premier League, I respect Manchester United the most. But Chelsea deserved this game no doubt. Sir Alex Ferguson will be asked questions of his team selection which, after this result, United could potentially be without silverware this season. As for the penalty decision, the ball did hit Carrick's hand, but whether there was anything he could do about it is debatable. Drogba epitomises the reasons nobody likes Chelsea. Entertaining game however.

How right you were.... 2 goals for Ballack

did you see the hissy fit him and Drogba had over taking a free kick? Pitiful.

Cos we're Suuuu-per Chel-sea....Suuuu-per Chel-sea FC!!!

We were definitely the hungrier team, buoyed on by the dedication of playing in honour of Frankie's Mum.  Could've gone either way with both Ash Cole and Sheva (yes Sheva) clearing off the line in the final few minutes.

Glad the Prems going down to the wire now....what a great climax to the season with at least one and possibly both English teams in the CL final too (I'm picking us to beat Man U again in Moscow).

I thought Ballack was great but Essien was outstanding - and he will again rule the Bridge on Thurs morning vs Scousers when he's back from CL suspension....

essien is quite possibly your best player at the moment, even better than ballack, he's so immense in everything, he's always there. that said, didiot D never learns..

Yep he sure is immense and has been my favourite player for a few seasons now.  Ballack is finally winning me over after initially thinking he was a complete twat when he first arrived - regardless of his obvious talent and leadership qualities I thought he behaved and played poorly early on both last year and this year and I enjoy watching him as he thrives on Frankie not playing.

That said, I have completely lost any last thread of respect I held for Didi as he dives, dances, pouts and poses his prima donna ways through his final few games in a blue shirt.  He has been an amazing player to have at Chelsea and scored some incredible goals but his overall behaviour has swayed me away from any loyalty I used to have for him.

Though in saying that I thought his strength and ball skills prior to providing the cross for Ballack's header to make it 1-0 were fantastic and I'd like to see him finish on a high and contribute strongly to our hopeful charge at the double.....

Here, here Cnut....it was certainly a penalty and good on the linesman (oooh, assitant referee) for having the nuts to make such a big but true call at such an important time in such a crucial match....

We were by far the better team and Man U came for the draw with one eye on their CL return semi with Barca.....I feel Sir underestimated the strength and motivation that Pat Lampards death had on Chelsea....and we dominated them 70% of the match so 2-1 was a just result.

The crowd at Fortress Bridge were brilliant and lets have more of the same on Thursday....

what the f was Ferguson whining about on the hand ball? Are you not allowed to give pens in "major" matches or something? came across as a twat

so its a penalty for an accidental handball and an overenthusiastic lineman yet nothing for Ballack rugby tackling Ronaldo when he came on? i feel, yes u guys were the stronger team, with the pat lampard tragedy and home support, but u did not deserve to win in that fashion. i wouldn't be so pissed off if u had put the ball in the back of the net witha good move or something, but one of the biggest matches of the season decided by that was abysmal

Trust fergutlesson. Unless refs let manure win by 3 goals he moans and berates them. How about saying, the better team won on the day. Being a QPR fan means i dislike chelsea with as much passion as United V City, but even I could see that  Chelsea had most of the match and deserved to win. They just wanted it that bit more on the day. One of the more exciting encounters between the two sides for several seasons. Most have been as boring as hell.

Go Celtic, i hope that Asian player scores another spectacular goal. That last one was bl00dy brilliant!

I just read the previous page. The linesman that gave the penalty, wasn't that Mike Riley? And if so, Sorry Manure fans but Mike Riley is indeed very much a Man United fan. Well known in England for looking after the Red Devils, especially at Old Trafford. Abd yes, he is a self confessed united fan.

yeah because your goal came from great build up play eh, a carvalho cock up.You started with 1 up front at stamford bridge, sums up your intentions from the get go really. bad luck on the penalty call, (your first one of the season).howeversir alex forgets man utd never tend to get penalties given against them at old trafford now do they

I'm not sure how moving a hand from down by your side, to up where the ball is going, is not a penalty - a good call from the ref I think. I don't think Carrick intended it, but i'm sure the back pass to rooney was not intentional either. People mess up, Carrick is one of them. Chelsea win, and deserved to also. Not sure how people are outraged it was a penalty, if the assistant ref (who is in a great position) can see the hand move, does he really have any other choice?

Just saw that tonight on the highlights.  What a thoroughly detestable man Drogba is.
