18 Jun 03:53

18 Jun 03:54

John matterson has posted it about just now. Heard it from a another source as well.

Doesn't look like a done deal.

If so, I'll be unsubscribing.

With the amount of people on here looking for streams whenever there is any sport that is being shown on Sky I imagine it will affect about 14 people.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

18 Jun 04:06

Based on 2 or 3 people looking for a stream, on a forum with 8000 registered users?

Doesn't look like a done deal.

Don't be so sure about that.

18 Jun 04:12

The way things are going the only football on Sky will be whatever ESPN broadcast

18 Jun 04:31

Just been informed SKY have said they've been outbid but don't know who by! No-one else will be able to run as many EPL, Championship and lower league games/packages. Plus side? - more Bundesliga, Serie A, La liga? FFS.

Sommet Sports have been advertising they will be bringing the Bundesliga to NZ TVs

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/8661666/Sommet-turns-sports-feed-back-on-for-Kiwis

Sommet Sports promises to offer Australian Rules Football (AFL) as well as the beautiful game, including the Scottish, German and Chinese FA cups and the Argentinian league and German Bundesliga. On top of that is world snooker, the New York and Melbourne marathons, San Francisco's Escape from Alcatraz triathlon, kickboxing, extreme sports and more.

All on one channel? Hmm not sure how that's going to work out.

a requirement for being able to receive sommet is MHEG5 (a requirement for all freeview approved products) which is leading people to speculate that there will be a "viewers choice" type thing. so this could be an answer to your concerns.
18 Jun 05:08

It's not sommet.

@sportzfreak is claiming on his twitter feed it is a new start up, pay to view venture.

Rumour is it's to Al Jazeera Sports

18 Jun 05:31

So with NZF recently talking up the benefits of a great new deal with Sky and Sommet Sports on the scene and now today's news, it sounds like there's going to be more choice than ever but spread over at least 3 different platforms. At least Somment Sports is essentially free. Will be interesting to see who comes up with the most compelling offering overall.

The big question is whether NZF have just climbed on board a sinking ship?

By the way, as long as the A-League is still through Sky is anyone really cancelling their subscription?

At the moment, I can only see this being more costly for footy fans.

That came up with the new a-League broadcasting deal. From memory, there was still 1 more season on the deal.

..which, er... means - if true - SKY could still get it?

That is interesting. I wonder if they have the rights to break up and re-package EPL content, i.e. high profile matches, to sell to networks.

well no. If sky bid for it, and these guys bid more, why would sky pay these guys even more again to get the rights, they could have just outbid them in the first place if they were willing to spend that kind of money.

18 Jun 05:47

Repackage and onsell to multiple channels/platforms.

Sky could have possibly thought their dominant position in the sporting landscape in NZ meant that they would be the only realistic bidders for content and not offered as high as they could have?
If the content is broken up and re-packaged could see some games on Sky, some games on TV3 and some games on Sommet Sports.
18 Jun 05:52

Online too. Sky will get highlights packages and (possibly) lesser games,,, bigger/key games will be online via subscription or PPV.

Welcome to the future of sports broadcasting. Segregation... aka: pay more for less.

It could take some time for the NZ sporting public getting used to such a fragmented experience.
18 Jun 05:57

What did they expect after what happened with the TV rights in the UK? They had to up their bids or lose customers.

I think what I'll do is get Multiroom put in at a mates, pay him $25/month and just take the decoder to mine
