FA Cup - wheres it gone?

Am I mistaken of is the FA Cup not being screened this year? 3rd Round tonight and nothing on ESPN (who had it last few years) or on Sky. Our only chance to see any of the lower league teams and good old Sky shafts us again.

Apologies if this discussed elsewhere -  any info on where our FA Cup has gone will be greatfully appreciated

I was wondering the same thing mate. There are some primo ties as always in the 3rd round and we are deprived of viewing them in favour of god knows what.

Ah well, looks like it'll be iraqgoals.com again.

Three for me, and two for them.

Man city and stoke fans will be pleased their games weren't shown

congrats to the 1 forest fan i know and the 1 1/2 hartlepool fans

(agreed, it would be good to have some cup coverage - for many NZers the 73 sunderland v leeds final is their first memory of british football on tv)

I investigated it and ESPN is still showing 3rd round games - just not in the 'Pacific Rim' part. Its a damn shame, and hopefully from the next round they show us here. ESPN are actually quite receptive to enquires, might be worth jumping on Soccernet and asking what the deal is. Not sure if they'll change it though.

For us younger blokes it was more the 1995 United vs Everton final... but there we go.

Damnit... I may not be old enough to have lived through it, but that still brings back painful memories. Damn you Jimmy Montgomery, how you kept that ball out of your net still elludes me. Had to bring it up again didn't you Tigers? Still... proof we once managed to make it beyond the second round. And if we beat Sunderland today...

Anyone know what happened to Histon?

ESPN showed mostly NFL playoffs yesterday when they might have shown FA cup games.

NFL will almost be over by the time the next round is played so hopefully we'll get to see some football instead.

Only way to watch your team in this one is if they make it to the final...

Final only, normally shown on Sky Sports 3

Only if a big team is involved, seem to remember a few times a couple of minor teams being in there and they have refused to show it

New Zealanders may not get to see live coverage of the FA Cup final for possibly the first time in 36 years.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

TVNZ would put it on Freeview

"This season's competition saw the beginning of a new television contract for the tournament, with ITV and Setanta Sports taking over the domestic rights from the BBC and Sky Sports."

From what i hear everyone in Engurrrrland is pretty mad at Setanta too, people just plain upset that they can't watch what is almost a God-given right.
I just think its rubbish, that sky d**khead wants to cut down on all local coverage so I dont think he will put this on SkyNZ.
Maybe they will do a daylight robbery and put it on PAY-PER-VIEW sky box office?

Remember the sh*tstorm that happened when sky got the allblacks games? now everyone just accepts you need a subscription tv service in this country to watch any sports, unless you are into horse or motor racing.

Its no different for most of the  home viewers as the rights have been traditionally shared with the terrestrial channel getting the game of the round - but its the pubs and sky subscibers  that dont  want to necessarily shell out for both skysports and setanta.

Ironic that here we have the problem of the monopoly, whereas the Uk have the problem of having 2 companies!

WRONG! As Reading13 indicated ITV is free to air and anyone with a telly in England can see the match!

This thread was supposed to be about the lack of NZ coverage of the FA Cup Final. Now iif you want to see that match I suggest that some action is needed.  Start pestering your telly provider. Maybe one of them does want to steal a march on its competition?

We're Forever Causing Trouble

Trouble is football has been used as a toy by Sky for years. When they launched back in the early 90's it was the first thing they grabbed. In palmy it took another 3 years for Sky to reach us, but duing that time they used it as a way to build a base with us loyal fans. To add insult to injury they tried to do away with the rights in 96 I think... then after protests picked them up at the last minute and then played a nausiating ad saying "you love football, we love football"

When Sky Digital was launched where did all the live coverage go? To SS2 of course so that fans (again) had to then pay more to get that off the ground (again). And what happens now that they have landed the rights to other sports? no midnight live games - just golf!

So yeah I cant say I am suprised by this and why I fully expect us loyal fans to be used as a tool to boost freeview.

And its also the reason I have Sky on speed dial....
