I must say it was a fantastic feeling going up to a friend this morning who has been telling me all week spurs were going to win 6-0 and saying "you're so s*** its unbelievable" revenge is sweet.

What a goal once more from the Brazilian maestro

Hey tigers, you'll be pleased to know that the predictor said you would beat Spurs 1-0. It thinks you'll finish 12th now. The only thing of concern is the average strength of opposition so far:
Rank Team Average Points of Opposition Faced So Far % of Overall Average 1 Manchester City 12.429 127.473% 2 Stoke City 11.857 121.612% 3 Tottenham Hotspur 11.571 118.681% 4 Manchester United 11.333 116.239% 5 Fulham 11.000 112.821% 6 Newcastle United 10.714 109.890% 7 Everton 10.286 105.494% 8 Sunderland 10.143 104.029% 8 Wigan Athletic 10.143 104.029% 10 Blackburn Rovers 9.857 101.099% 11 West Bromwich Albion 9.714 99.634% 12 Aston Villa 9.571 98.169% 13 Liverpool 8.857 90.842% 14 Bolton Wanderers 8.714 89.377% 14 Middlesbrough 8.714 89.377% 16 Arsenal 8.571 87.912% 16 Portsmouth 8.571 87.912% 18 Chelsea 8.429 86.447% 19 West Ham United 7.857 80.586% 20 Hull City 7.429 76.190%

Still, you can only beat the teams you've played. It's good to see some interest in the Prem away from the bottom of the table (unlike the top, the bottom is the only end of the table that always provides entertainment to neutrals).

on that basis Chelsea better enjoy things while they can

i'd settle for 12th SiNZ, I realise its early days yet, if we do stumble i hope it's not too spectacular a fall from grace

When you beat teams they get less points therefore when we (Hull) beat them they're teams that get less points. This stat means nothing substantial.

Oh yeah, and we can only beat the team we play. Arsenal are in that mix as are Spurs and Newcastle. Two good teams that we met at a good time eg when they're crap.Toffeeman2008-10-06 20:42:22

Just like my Hull city team on football manager, have made a great start to the premier league including a two nil win over Liverpool. They just need to sign this Dagoberto guy from some Brazillian club and Steve Thompson of Burnley. Oh and Dom Matteo!

At the early part of the season, that's certainly true. Once you get a decent amount of games completed however, it can provide an indication of whether someone's league position is buoyed or subdued. 5 of the 7 teams Hull have played so far are in the bottom half of the table - 3 are in the bottom 4. That is all the stat is reflecting. Like I said, you can only beat the teams you've played.

Towards the end of the season, I tend to look at the inverse column - where you look at the average points of remaining opposition. That's when things start to get really interesting.

Surely at the midpoint, when everyone has played everyone once then everyone will be level in this table. Or is it not that simple?

Only in Italy, Spain and Germany (possibly others, but I don't cover other countries). England doesn't follow a regimented fixture schedule where everyone plays each other once by the mid-point of the season, so the "level point" only arrives at the end of the season. (As an interesting digression: Italy, Spain and Germany actually go so far as to have the second round of fixtures be played in the exact same order as the first round.)

The conclusion I have made is that we have been extremely lucky so far. Arsenal did everything but win whereas the Spurs match was 'kicking in' for them in the second half but they couldn't score. We are in a 'false' position and we should enjoy it whilst we can. I have predicted our opposition to win, and actually marked them as a 'banker', in all the prediction leagues I am in - I have been WRONG 6 times out of seven!
We can, however, draw from these results in that we can probably now attract the sort of 'quality' players we need. We still lack pace up front and Wigan showed up our vulnerability.
Could anyone have possibly expected such a glorious start to our Premier League life? I doubt it.
I for one am relishing our success and loving every second of it.

yes, we have had some luck, but the lads on the park and PB have also played some intelligent football and worked hard for each other - we've also got a few players who are clearly Prem class

Arsenal didn't do "everything but win", they did everything except ....win or draw

yep, third will be very, very, very unlikely to be sustained

and yep, if we can stay in the top half til the transfer window we will be a more attractive proposition for potential signings

hopefully the int break will see us be back to a full squad (fagan excepted)

As I mentioned on a previous post, I sent my ex-boss a 'sympathy' card with the words SPURS 0 HULL CITY 1 emblazoned on the inside. He had spent years rubbishing my support of a 'nonentity' team like Hull City.
Last night I received a phone call from him in which he used but two words "SMARTAR5E C**T"! before hanging up.
There are nowhere near enough superlatives to describe the delight I felt at his words. Those two simple words canceled out the two decades of rubbishing I had to put up with during my employ.
As the late great Jackie Gleason used to say 'HOW SWEET IT IS'!

Good stuff OZ Tiger and I dont think Hull are finished turning over a few more Premiership teams. The club has gotten off to a solid start and built up much needed points whilst others have struggling.

looks like we might sign our loaned defender Zayatte in the Jan window

the club are also making the right noises about hanging on to Turner, Myhill and Geo etc (and given that we've hardly any debt that should be doable)

What's Hull's upcoming fixture list like? Still have Chelsea, Man U and Liverpool to play twice. Eventually the fairytale start will end but for now it must be brilliant for you long suffering Tigers fans.

Again, we were incredibly lucky but the Gods must still be with us. I thought the bubble had burst when Wigan hammered us but we seem to have gone from strength to strength - at the moment it is London NIL- Hull City FOUR!
Cousin is without doubt a talented and formidable player and the entire side compliment each other by sheer teamwork and effort.
We have developed a team not to be underestimated with Myhill establishing himself with more and more confidence as each game goes by whilst Dawson in particular has raised his game to a level beyond most peoples expectations.
Everything that could go right for us is going right and everything that could go wrong for our opposition is going wrong so heaven help us if our luck changes whilst playing the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man U.
Pre-season I expected us to be in the bottom three and not the top three so life for a Tigers supporter couldn't be better at the moment.

just watched a tape of the win v W Ham

Zayatte's no mug,

Ashbee what a hero - had most of a season off a few years back, having had holes drilled in his thigh bone, to stop it crumbling away - he's taken us from the bottom division to here

Cousin, superb flicks off his head time after time

Marlon king closing down their back four in the 91 st min

Geo -and the crowd yelling "shoot" when he got the ball on half way

brian hughes did everything right when he came on

and The Boat - his effort when he 'ran himself unconscious' in the first game set the platform for this season

so proud - a tear in my eyes several times in the match

C'MON U 'ULL !!

just found this on a report of the game from a west ham site:

Mark Noble saw a penalty shout (probably correctly) denied when he went over in the box after pressure from Marney before Herita Ilunga missed possibly the best chance of the half when he was left unmarked at a corner to nod a Noble centre agonisingly wide of the post. The travelling fans were in good voice, informing the home crowd that 'we pay your benfits' during a break in play.

It is the last sentance that makes me laugh

SiNZ's computer thingy has us down for a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns (or whatever it's called these days)

despite it's marginal track record so far that particular piece of computer wizardry might have it right this time

certainly WBA won't underestimate us, and - perhaps it's OZtigers influence - but I daren't start expecting wins

an away point will serve us well in our main goal of staying up - here's hoping we do get at least a point

As a ManU fan, please don't abuse me, I have to say its great to see Hull do so well because it shows that the jump from the Championship to the Premiership is as big as some might suggest. Good on you boys!....but be cautious of '2nd-season-itis' and don't over spend on useless has beens. Though sayig that: Giovanni = great piece of business
